RICHARD FINDS FOSSILS
THE STORY OF RICHARD OWEN
Written by M. Young-Scholten & M. Wilkinson Illustrated by Francesca Arlett
Richard finds fossils in Kenya.
Fossils show the prints made by a plant or animal or a human long ago.
Richard digs fossils from the earth. He finds human fossils.
How old are these humans? Three million years old!
Richard loves elephants. Poachers kill elephants.
Poachers sell the elephants’ ivory tusks.
Ivory makes useful things. Ivory makes beautiful things.
Richard shoots poachers. Richard burns the ivory.
“No traders will sell the ivory,” Richard says.
Some people think he is right. Some people think he is wrong. What do you think?
