Saratoga National Park For the history buff there’s hardly a better place to visit than the site of the first significant American military victory of the Revolutionary War. Battlefield Tour

The Visitor Center has a book and gift shop, 20-minute orientation film, fiber-optic light map, timeline display, and artifact display.

Tours of the Battlefield are self-guiding, using information in the park brochure and interpretive stations along the way. Schuyler House This restored country house of American General Philip Schuyler, is located approximately 7 miles north of the Battlefield. Saratoga Monument, third of three sites making up Saratoga National Historical park, is located approximately 7 1/2 miles north of the Battlefield. This 155-foot obelisk commemorates the American victory in the Battles of Saratoga. It is open for visitation Wednesdays through Sundays during the summer season. Mileage

New York State Military Museum The museum houses over 10,000 artifacts dating from the Revolutionary War to Desert Storm that relate to New York State’s military forces, the state’s military history and the contributions of New York’s veterans. The artifacts include uniforms, weapons, artillery pieces, and art. A significant portion of the museum’s collection is from the Civil War.
In summer, get out early and have breakfast at the beautiful Saratoga Race Course, the oldest continually operating Thoroughbred horse racing track in the country. Or, any time of year, visit the Saratoga Spa State Park, with its mineral springs, reflecting pools, auto museum, and 2,000 beautiful acres. Later, walk through the grand old downtown of Saratoga Springs. It’s always teeming with activity. From finding an antique treasure to lingering in a cozy bookstore, to discovering the perfect outfit in a charming boutique, Saratoga shops have just what you’ve been looking for. You’ll also find many wonderful places to eat, in coffee bars and bakeries, restaurants with classic American, Italian or Mexican cuisine. Saratoga was known for many years as the “Queen of the Spas.” Today, visitors can still enjoy natural mineral baths from the bubbling springs or more modern treatments at several local spas. Saratoga Casino and Raceway offers over 1,700+ video gaming machines. It’s a fun place to try your luck, as well as enjoy dining in an exciting atmosphere. Evenings in summer, check out the Saratoga Performing Arts Center. This lovely outdoor performing arts venue features classical performances, the Saratoga Jazz Festival, the Saratoga Wine and Food Festival, and major pop and rock concerts. When it’s time to settle in, many Saratoga B&B’s offer gracious accommodations and there are many wonderful hotels to choose from.

Within easy driving distance, you’ll discover additional historical attractions in Lake George, Cooperstown and Albany. The Lake George area played a key role in famous battles of the French and Indian Wars, as well as the American Revolution. Cooperstown offers the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Farmer’s Museum. In Albany, the New York state capital, there are many museums and historic sites.
