Healthy food in a welcoming setting

There’s a new healthy food option in Sioux Falls! Nautical Bowls, in the Empire Plaza development on 41st Street in front of the Empire Mall, serves superfood bowls and offers a fun and welcoming atmosphere.

Owner Lexus Paulson was born and raised in Sioux Falls and has always had a passion for living a healthy lifestyle. She lives in Minneapolis, which is where she was introduced to Nautical Bowls. After frequenting the store a few times a week, she realized it was a concept Sioux Falls needed, so she decided to bring the franchise back to her hometown.

“It was always a reprieve for me to go to Nautical Bowls over my lunch,” Lexus said. “It’s so bright and fun and just lets people take a break.”

The grand opening, held on April 23, offered free superfood bowls to the first 50 customers. Lexus was hoping they would get at least 50 customers, but she was

blown away when over 300 people stood in line waiting to get a glimpse at what Nautical Bowls had to offer.

“I knew Sioux Falls would show up and love this concept,” Lexus said.

The superfood bowls at Nautical Bowls are organic, gluten-free, dairy-free, and plantbased with no added refined sugars and are packed with vitamins and nutrients. What Lexus loves is that they can cater to any dietary restriction. She says some customers are diabetic, lactose intolerant, or have celiac disease and they can easily find a superbowl to accommodate their health concerns.

“People in Sioux Falls want this option,” Lexus said. “I think some people don’t realize that healthy food can taste good.”

There are seven bases to choose from – açaí, mango, pitaya, cacao, coconut, blue majik, and chia pudding. A variety of toppings are available, such as coconut flakes, cacao nibs, goji berries, nuts and seeds, fruits, granola, and nut butters. You can build your own bowl or choose from one of their signature bowls.

Lexus says part of the reason she loves her new gig is that she gets to educate customers and employees on how to lead a healthier lifestyle.

“I think some may think we just cater to high school or college students and that our food offering is trendy, but we have customers of any age and any health status,” Lexus said. “Taking care of your body is important and Nautical Bowls provides easier access to healthy food.”
