FIRE UP!! Fire is an element, that is as ambiguous and paradox as none other: during wintertime it gives us warmth, cosiness and the most beautiful light, for comfortable reading hours (not ideal for photography, but you take what you get during winter in Berlin ;)). However, other connotations of fire are danger and maybe most of all energy! And this is why we called our last section of this issue »FIRE UP!«. We talk about crazy sports trends- have you ever heard of Chess boxing? – and flexible cars, about women as firefighters, about Prometheus as well as spicy cocktails. For us, these topics are a perfect summary of what we will feel like during the next days: from cosy Christmas Eve there is only one week left until New Years Eve, which we want to be energized for, to start 2017 on the right note. And for this start, we prepared a whole recipe and activity program with our partner Alpro during the last few months, called H.A.P.P.Y. So we will be back in early January with #starthappy!
Yours, Thea & sisterMAG Team W H AT H A P P E N E D S O FA R ? Time for a little party! Our second section »Celebrate« will get us in a festive mood, because it won’t be long until the holidays and new years’ parties. Together with S.Pellegrino we will show you the tips and tricks for being a good host. Still haven’t finished your Christmas shopping just yet? Whether you are a wood lover or an interior fan – in our sisterMAG gift guide we put together the best gift ideas for everyone. And not only is this section festive, it is international as well: How do different religions spend their major holidays?

NATURAL FORCE FOR MANKIND The history of mankind is strongly connected to fire. Since we’ve known it, it brings life and death. Ignorance and underestimation could end in chaos, however, we couldn’t live our lives without the hot element. From the preparation of the first cooked meal, to the industrial revolution and to rocket propulsion: Fire makes us progress – and awes us.

»Knife, fork, scissors, flames have no place in children's games.« Parents know: Fire has always been threatening and something to both fear and respect. And we know that playing with fire can be dangerous, yet despite the warnings flames have an appeal for us humans. Many cultures have their own legends and myths about how humans received the fire. Often, it’s the gods who gave it to us as a precious present. But how did it really happen? One thing is for sure:
As early as two million years ago, the Stone Age men from today’s East Africa knew about the fire. They certainly didn’t know how to master it, but just like it does today lightening caused devastating bush fires. However the fire brigades that can distinguish such fires today weren’t founded for almost two million years after the Stone Age! Around the time of Asterix, shortly before the birth of Christ, the first attempts of fighting fire in an organized way took place in Ancient Rome.

When the hobo habilis first witnessed the destructive force of fire they learned what parents teach their children today: Fire is dangerous. However, it didn’t take long for humans to realise that fire isn’t only dangerous- it can cause death, but also bring new life. higher since most victims of a fire don’t die in the flames, but from the smoke itself. Toxic gases surprise them in their sleep. Since the sense of smell doesn’t work while we are sleeping, smoke detectors are the only useful prevention. They certainly played an important role in halving the number of fire victims over the last 15 years. But on the other hand, we couldn’t lead the life we know without fire. A long time ago, fire helped us keeping wild animals away and making food non-perishable and edible. Today, it ensures that our showers don’t just pour cold water. Without

Pride goes before a fall fire, there wouldn’t be any forges, we couldn’t weld metal or solder electric boards and we wouldn’t have flown to the moon. Without fire, there wouldn’t have been a steam engine, and without a steam engine the industrial revolution, that started at the end of the 18th century and changed our lives forever, would have been inconceivable. Combustion engines need fire as much as floor-heating systems do. Humans learned how to utilize fire. But it would be arrogant to claim that we have fire completely under control. »Those who play with fire die in it.« That’s one more smart aleck saying for children that still offers a kernel of truth. rometheus – the son of Iapetos, a Titan, and Clymene, an Oceanid – took clay and water to create humans, shaped in the image of the gods and Athena, the Goddess of wisdom, breathed life into them. The primordial gods Darkness, Night, Air, Earth and Rivers had procreated to make Joy, Suffering, Wrath and Sorrow but forgotten about mortal humans. The god Zeus was suspicious of the aspirational beings Prometheus had created and demanded worship and sacrificial offerings from them. An argument about which part of a bull should be sacrificed to the gods had far-reaching consequences. Prometheus had two offerings prepared: one, containing the delicious parts of the flesh, was sewn into the pale lining
of the stomach, the other, only containing bones, was covered in appealing slabs of fat. Zeus was fooled and chose the second offering. When he noticed his mistake he punished Prometheus by taking the divine gift of fire away from the humans. But Prometheus, concerned for the wellbeing of man, entered Mount Olympus, ignited a fire on Helios‘ fiery chariot and, concealed within a stalk of fennel, brought it back to his creations. Zeus‘ revenge was terrible: He had a woman fashioned of clay, more beautiful than any human being before her. The winds breathed life into Pandora and she wooed Epimetheus, Prometheus’ brother. But he had been warned by his sibling and rejected her. Pandora’s box, filled

Pandora was very pretty but also quite stupid and continued to woo Epimetheus. Afraid to face a similar punishment to Prometheus’ should he find another excuse to reject her, Epimetheus agreed to marry Pandora and eventually opened her box. Earlier, however, Prometheus had managed to also store hope inside the box which kept the plagued human race from ending their suffering by committing suicide.

filmmakers, sculptors and composers have been inspired by the theme to rouse mankind. Poets as early as Hesiod, Aischylus and Plato used the myth. During the proto-Romantic storm and stress movement (around 1774 to be more exact), which revered individual genius and subjectivity, Johann Wolfgang Goethe wrote a poem he called »Prometheus«.
The Prometheus myth is only one of many legends humans use to show their admiration for fire and the importance it has to their life. Taming fire is one of man’s greatest achievements; it gave us light and warmth. Pitting strong-willed Prometheus and his wisdom against Zeus, the supposedly stronger and more powerful one who is ultimately defeated has again and again invoked comparisons in other life situations and helped people look confidently towards the future, rely on their own strengths and deal with setbacks. Goethe's Prometheus represents human existence in itself and Zeus the force it is seeking to overcome – the mundane »ego« going up against a superior divine authority. How often do we encounter a superior »divine« authority in our daily lives? On a daily basis! And I am not talking about teachers, line managers or even parents; no, I am thinking of agonizing situations which lead to inhibitions as well as realities which force us to bravely accept new challenges. How often does actively tackling a new prospect result in a generally happier life situation? Without Prometheus‘ bravery there would be no space flight, no start-ups and no Silicon Valley.

LISBON FROM ABOVE While fall came to Germany and brought coldness and grey days to Berlin, we decided to spend a few last days of summer in Portugal. And what would be a more perfect spot to shoot our fire red coverdress than above the sunlit roofs of Lisbon?
Part of our team were the photographers Jules from Herz & Blut as well as Saskia from Oh Hedwig . The latter turned into our covermodel for the shoot. That was a wish come true for our fashion editor Evi, who was hoping for this since Saskia shot the cover of our last issue. While looking for the perfect shooting location, our whole team fell in love with the Portuguese capital. The brightly tiled and pastelcoloured houses, the cobblestoned hills and breathtakingly beautiful views of the city's red roofs, the castle and the sea wherever we went. In the end, we discovered the balcony, where we took some of the cover shots, by accident - as part of the hotel room that we had booked for styling. However, this made us even happier. Just as happy as we were to find out that this country was the perfect spot to find inspiration for the Wood & Fire theme of this issue. Benevolent is the fire's might, If the man tames and watches it, For what he builds, what he creates, He owes to this heavenly power; Yet fright'ning Heaven's pow'r will be, When from its chains it doth break free, Embarking forth on its own track, Nature's daughter, free alack. From: Song of the bell, Friedrich Schiller
They risk their lives while extinguishing fire and rescuing people from the flames. Firefighters are considered undisputed heroes in popular culture. When talking about firefighters this refers, however, almost always to firemen. Although women have already been recruited for fire services during the First World War, they had to show great pioneering spirit during the 20th century to become professional firefighters. A short overview of the history of female firefighters sketches their bumpy road until today.
37
SISTERMAG 27 | 12 / 2016
Women were more and more restricted to the private realm of domestic life, i.e. child-rearing, housekeeping, and religious education
At the end of the 19th century it was still unthinkable for women to become a firefighter. In caricaturist drawings of the time, firewomen were rather depicted in terms of gendered stereotypes, for instance, having an afternoon tea party in the firehouse or preparing in front of the mirror for a fire alarm. Due to industrialization, society became differentiated along gender-specific lines. This separation of public and private spheres went hand in hand with a
corresponding division of labour. Such a patriarchal ideology of separate spheres entailed that men rather dominated the public realm, i.e. the world of politics, economy, commerce and law. Women were more and more restricted to the private realm of domestic life, i.e. child-rearing, housekeeping, and religious education. Fighting fire did not conform to the patriarchal gender norm which considered women as passive, caring and motherly.

Barbara Eichhammer Barbara Eichhammer has a degree in cultural studies. She is a writer as well as the editor of the blog ÂťThe Little Wedding CornerÂŤ, where she writes about modern weddings.

During the First World War, however, women were recruited to help the fire brigades. In the wake of military mobilization, staff among the fire services were reduced to such a great extent that women substituted male firefighters. In Berlin, the first female-only volunteer fire brigades came into being. Though their activity was quite short-lived: After the war, women no longer played an active role in fire-fighting. 38

navigate the fire engines. At the end of the war the number of female firefighters was estimated at 275.000. Even the industry catered to the needs emerging from such a high number of female staff: Special pumps were developed for firewomen, which
were not as heavy as regular male pumps and were called ÂťDie BrandmeisterinÂŤ. After the Second World War many women continued to help fire services, replacing fallen soldiers and prisoners of war, who did not return until 1955.

Fire Services:
Men's stuff
Women began entering the world of professional firefighting in Germany only from the mid1970s onwards. The Cologne fire services, for instance, still had an ad campaign with a slogan »Fire Services: men’s stuff« in 1974. In West Germany fire laws excluded women from being a firefighter until the 1970s. Another obstacle was the simple problem of labels: Until the 1990s
the German word for female firefighter (i.e. Feuerwehrfrau) did not exist. Firewomen had to call themselves fire assistants, i.e. the assistants of the firemen. How is the situation today? In 2013, there were according to the Deutsch Feuerwehrverband 85.694 women working as volunteer firefighters (8%), but only 396 as career firefighters (1%).

with susanne klatt »I want to be a firefighter!« Many boys dream of being a firefighter one day, whereas only a few girls have the dream to become a firewoman. In an interview with firewoman Susanne Klatt, we learn more about the contexts and reasons of this development. After having acquired a university degree as a safety engineer, she is now department manager of the firehouse in Essen, and is responsible for 190 firemen. She also founded the »Network Feuerwehrfrauen« with the aim to connect more female firefighters in Germany and to support and increase the number of female trainees.
41
SISTERMAG 27 | 12 / 2016
Why are there so few career female firefighters? The problem is that most people make the stereotypical assumption that firefighters should be tall, strong and male. Especially children grow up with this prejudice in mind. This notion of a specifically male firefighter is so deeply rooted in most people’s subconscious that women do not even take firefighter as a valid career option into consideration.
in the end many applicants could not meet the requirements under real conditions. We must rely on the fitness of our firefighters. We make our decisions based on qualifications, if someone is strong enough for the task, regardless of whether man or woman. If you want to be a volunteer firefighter, no fitness test is, however, needed. That’s why it is easier to take part in volunteer fire services.
Are the job requirements a reason for fewer female Why is the discrepancy between volunteer firefighters applicants? and career firefighters so big? The main reason is probably the physical test which is not mandatory for volunteer firefighters. In order to be a professional firefighter you must be strong and fit at all times. The test is even so difficult that also men fail one after the other. Equal opportunities officers often ask us why we cannot introduce a quota or make the test easier. Cities that introduced easier tests were confronted with the fact that SISTER-MAG.COM
Another reason for the low percentage of female career firefighters are the requirements for the job. Applicants either must have an academic degree in technical or natural sciences or a professional training in a field that is helpful for fire services. In natural or technical sciences, however, women are immensely underrepresented which also entails fewer female applicants for the fire services among female graduates.

»W e must rely on the fitness of our firefighters. We make our decisions based on qualifications, if someone is strong enough for the task, regardless of whether man or woman. «
Which projects does the Netzwerk Feuerwehrfrauen want to implement in the near future?
Interestingly, in the GDR there were far more women working in fire services before the reunification. After 1990, their number declined. Is there a specific reason for that?
One of the main problems is that we still cannot refer to any valid statistics about how many women are in which career positions. This makes it even more difficult to draw conclusions as to whether there is a glass ceiling for women in fire services. The less we know about the actual figures, the less we can do against existing gender problems. With 25.000 fire stations in Germany, it is our deepest concern to represent women better in terms of statistic figures in the future.
Women in the GDR were by far more represented in technical professions, thus they also had more female firefighters. After the reunification, however, the percentage of firewomen steadily decreased. Fire laws were revised in order to match those of Western Germany. Thus, the yearly »Brandschutzwoche« (fire prevention week) was cancelled. Yet, predominantly female firefighters performed those fire control measures.

What role do women play in this sport today and what role can they play in the future? »I believe that women are pleased to see men who have the courage to jump into the ring and thus, in a certain way, are typically »man« again. What these men can also do though and what especially attracts women, is the fact that they can control themselves and play chess. We do also have female chess boxers now, such as Richa Sharma from India for example, a maths student, amateur boxer and solid chess player – she’s one of my overall favourite fighters!« Looking into the future, Rubingh’s main goal is to gradually further develop both the IFC and the Chess Boxing World Championships. That being said, the next World Championships will be held in the summer of 2017, in the Columbia Halle in Berlin with a total of 2500 spectators. With the World Championships, Rubingh’s dream is to ultimately conquer cities such as Moscow or New York. We definitely wish him the best of luck on his journey!

christian the fightER - INTERVIEW WITH CHRISTIAN How did you start practicing Chess Boxing? »I came to know about Chess Boxing through Iepe Rubingh, the founder. We randomly met at a dinner in Berlin where he told me about Chess Boxing and funnily enough, I realized that 15 years ago, I had read the comic that inspired this sport as well. At the beginning I actually thought he was just making one big joke. But it turned out that he wasn’t and so two days later I was already attending my first Chess Boxing training! « SISTER-MAG.COM

What appeals to you most about Chess Boxing? »What appeals to me most is the fact that Chess Boxing on the one hand is a very physical sport, and on the other hand you constantly have to focus again and sit down in front of the chess board; mind and body become completely combined. I was interested in martial arts when I was a kid so the connection to this form of sport was already there. I must also say that in comparison to various other boxing clubs that I have visited, you can clearly see that only »clever« and cool people attend Chess Boxing trainings. Ultimately, you don’t just need great muscles but also a great mind!«
What is it that Chess Boxing gives you that other sports can’t? »In contrast to other sports, practicing Chess Boxing not only keeps you extremely fit – the training with Iepe is really tough – but since you also have to play chess, there’s constant mental training as well.« 55
Why are you participating at the Intellectual Fight Club VI? »Primarily, I am interested in the overall experience. To be totally honest, I don’t really care about winning or losing! Obviously I would like to win, but first of all I would like to test myself once. My skills, my shape and so forth. And I wouldn’t want to test myself on the street with three thugs but rather in an arranged setting. During a fight, the referees are forced to stop any dangerous situation very early. All of this diminishes the risk of getting injured to a minimum. Eventually, you could call it a “sophisticated gentlemen fight”. And that’s exactly what I wanted to experience once!« SISTERMAG 27 | 12 / 2016
What’s the more difficult component: chess or boxing?
How important is hydration in this sport for you?
»For me, chess and boxing are equally hard. Chess is difficult because it is a complex game per se, which eventually turns into something very mathematical. On top of that, there’s the challenge that you are sitting at the chess table after a three-minute boxing round. When you have to sit down, all the concentration and breathing are already consumed by the boxing. On the other side, boxing is an extremely demanding sport as well. If you deepen your knowledge about boxing a bit, you will soon realize how difficult everything is. For example, only think about the footwork. One step, one hit, one step, one hit. Boxing is like a dance. For me, it’s like learning a dance «
»After each training, you can literally squeeze out my t-shirt. During such a physically and also mentally challenging activity, drinking a lot naturally becomes really important. I make sure to drink water with magnesium additives to prevent cramps. I always drink a lot prior to, and after, my training to stay hydrated.«

Hydration wi th
Did you know that on a normal day, we lose at least 2.5 liters of water? And this without any specific physical efforts such as practicing a sport. This makes it clear why it is so important to drink at least two to three liters of water per day. The extreme training involved in Chess Boxing makes it very important to drink plenty of water. The increased metabolism activity caused by intensive training obviously requires elevated amount of liquids. Being dehydrated can have severe effects on your training performance.

The most interesting part though, and perhaps the one thing people don’t realise, is that the body part which suffers the most from dehydration is our brain. And we have seen how important the brain is in this sport, especially. When we drink too little during a demanding physical activity, our brain shrinks and thus heavily hinders our ability to concentrate and think. Additionally, our central nervous system cannot function properly, our capability to coordinate ourselves and react strongly diminishes and

our overall strength and stamina shrink. Ultimately, all of this can also lead to painful cramps. We thus need to drink in order for our muscles to receive enough electrolytes. And that’s where a product like vitaminwater can help.

If intensive physical activity is practiced on a regular basis, then our metabolism activity increases permanently, even in moments of rest. Hence, compared to others, athletes’ liquidity requirements throughout the day rise. Research in this regard states a guiding value of drinking 50ml per kilogram body weight during a full day. Keep in mind that on warm days, you should add another two liters due to the high loss of liquids caused by the sweating.
SISTER-MAG.COM
62
Moreover, especially before, during and after a training session, athletes are required to drink a lot. Ideally, 90 minutes before the training, one liter should be drunk, which keeps muscles and joints hydrated. On the other hand, after a training session, half a liter of liquid is seen as a minimum.

So now that we know all this, some of you may still ask yourselves why you should drink so much, even when sometimes you don’t feel thirsty at all. Well, don’t be fooled because relying on the »I am thirsty« indicator does not work. In contrast to warning signals such as tiredness or hunger, thirst occurs with a time shift. In other words, as soon as you feel thirsty, you’re body is already experiencing a slight dehydration and you’re »too late«. Therefore, don’t rely on your thirst signal but rather incorporate a behaviour that ensures you to continuously drink enough throughout the day. That being said: Cheers!

Celery Soup with Thai-Chili, Sugar Snaps, Tofu & Lemongrass
Thai cuisine is traditionally spicy and therefore a great way to get warm in a healthy way. This clear Asian vegetable soup is the perfect choice to both fill an empty stomach and fight off the first signs of a cold. Depending on how spicy you like your soup you can use the chilies either with or without their seeds – in combination with the other ingredients like lemon grass, kaffir lime leaves and star anise they give this dish its distinct aroma. Fresh herbs, glass noodles and crisply fried sesame tofu complete this delicious recipe.
INGREDIENTS for 4 servings BASE SOUP

1. Peel the celery and cut it into pieces. Peel and half the onions. Peel and slice the carrots. Peel and mince the clove of garlic. 2. Place the cut onion halves face down into a pan without oil and heat. On medium heat, toast them thoroughly (this will give the soup a great flavour and nice colouring). Add 1.2 litres of water followed by the celery, carrots, garlic and spices (star anise, cinnamon stick, lemon grass, kaffir lime leaves). Simmer for about an hour. Finely slice the chilies and add them to the soup – seeds included if you like it spicy – just before the time is up. Let it all simmer for another few minutes. 73

A vision. A collective dream of my husband Alfonso and me. Several years ago Alfonso first told me about this unique festival, which takes place in the Nevada desert every year. When I speak of challenges, I mean it: obtaining festival tickets is incredibly difficult. Getting there – first to the U.S., then to Nevada, and finally reaching Black Rock City – is lengthy, expensive, and needs some planning. The conditions in the Burning Man desert are an adventure in themselves: there's blazing heat during the day and it's cool at night, with temperatures falling below 10 degrees Celsius. The desert sand is fine as dust, so a mouth guard as well as tightly-fitted goggles are a must when you are on the road. The nature there is unpredictable – one moment it is shining, and the next a desert storm takes over Burning Man. You can barely see your own hand before you when this happens, all orientation is lost. You can’t buy anything commercially except ice cubes,

Another important aspect of the festival is that what you bring with you must be taken back when it's over. The topic of sustainability is very highly respected here. You won’t find a single piece of garbage in the sand after the festival, which draws an incredible 70,000 people. Everything is left exactly as it was found. Along with Robert Morris and Sol LeWitt
DONALD JUDD is thought of as one of the main representatives of minimalisms which began in New York in the 1960s. 104
Minimalism,a Modern Art movement, challenges the artist to find the essence of beauty in scarcity. Donald Judd, whose reduced geometric sculptures have
achieved significance in the art historic curriculum, is just one example. But minimalism is not confined to artistic theory, the aesthetic principle has also been adapted in aspects of everyday life, like interior design. The thought of our grandparents’ wallto-wall shelf units full of brica-brac and porcelain figurines, heavily patterned carpets and tacky paintings are enough to make us shudder; they are simply too much to take for our post modern taste. Is it possible that art facilitated this generational change of mind? »Less is more« has become a general guiding principle as we strive to make as much as possible of very little. A similar approach comes into play when planning a night in – or indeed out. If we set out expecting too much we are likely to be disappointed but if we have low expectations to start with
chances are it’s going to turn out better than expected. It’s a phenomenon closely related to the minimax theorem, a principle based in decision theory. It is also known as the pessimistic approach in which the worst possible outcome is expected. Imagine you’re about to leave the house in the morning wondering whether it is going to rain today and you should take an umbrella. Carrying an umbrella you may not use around with you all day is a certain risk. But being optimistic and leaving the umbrella at home is an even greater risk as you may end up getting soaked. The minimax theorem suggests accepting the lesser evil, i.e. carrying an umbrella you may not need, to avoid the bigger evil, i.e. getting wet. This approach also affords us the chance to achieve a positive outcome: Having an umbrella handy if/when it start

But let’s focus again on our personal lives and happiness by reminding ourselves that it is the small, even minimalist, things in life that really matter. People often ask me who writes our car features – assuming that none among the girls in our editorial team could possibly be a petrol head… It’s a mystery easily solved: I love cars! If you want to give me a treat: I’ll enjoy a test drive much more than a day at the spa. From big engines to subcompacts – I enjoy getting behind the wheel of a new car and discover all its advantages and disadvantages, technical gimmicks etc. I have even been known to opt for a car magazine as my in-flight entertainment – and yet I couldn’t for the life of me explain any technical specifications. But don’t worry, we found an expert to do just that in my stead for our feature: Don Dahlmann is a car blogger and intimately familiar with all the numbers and specifications. I have had the privilege to take four more experts on Ford KA+ tours of Berlin who shared insights from their respective fields with me while we got to know the car together.

Cr ui se co nt ro l Slope assistant You may remember the Ford Ka »from way back when«. It was first introduced in 1996 (that‘s 20 years ago!) as one of the first subcompacts ever. Its distinctive features and agility soon made it a common sight on the streets of many cities. In early June 2016 Ford presented the third generation of the model which has been available as the »Ford KA+« from dealerships since October. For the first time ever the car is available in a five-door version which is great news for tall people as it’s now much easier for them to get in and out! We got our first Ford KA+ surprise as soon as the car was parked outside our office for the first time: many neighbors stopped to check it out on their way to lunch. And with good reason, too! Compared to its predecessor this model has a much edgier design, literally. It‘s more angular and sports the Aston Martin radiator grill now featured on all Fords plus the upward sweeping belt which merges into the elevated rear. SISTER-MAG.COM
Its design is clearly focused on function and output and a far cry from the naively cute shape or its predecessors. I will soon get more into aspects of shape, design and colors with my first guest Anastasia Benko from Stilzitat on the first of my tours. We have the Ford KA+ for a full week and on my way to the office in our first week of producing this feature I remember stopping to enjoy the wonderful autumnal colors and play with the leaves. Not much later, yet much to the chagrin of your production team, however, winter arrived with a vengeance which means that our DP Claus is in serious danger of frost bite every time he mounts one of his many GoPro Action cameras to the car. But it’s a sacrifice necessary for our special bonus feature: You will be able to watch a video tour of Berlin with each of our experts. The wintry conditions also remind me to mention another small but essential detail about the car:

it comes with seat heating as an optional feature. And who knows, comfy temperatures inside the car may just be the thing to put my tour guests in a chatty mood to discuss the idea of »minimal input - maximum output«. The topic is also the clue to our choice of car: the comparatively small investment of 9,990€* will get you quite a lot of car in the shape of a new Ford KA+. Everything is finished to a beautiful and robust standard! And yet there is nothing boring or conventional about this car, it’s distinctly modern. Thanks to Ford SYNC ** I can even connect my smart phone via Bluetooth and make calls and give other instructions via voice control! This car is made for an urbanite: there is plenty of functional storage surface for your phone or coffeet o - g o and just The Ford K A+ is available so much

room! It absolutely blows us away in our KA+rton test (sorry this is a better pun in German) when i actually have to ask the girls to find me more boxes because it held much more than I had initially budgeted for. See just how much on page 116. We also admit to having underestimated the work that would go into our video series. We were out and about for days just filming, filming, filming and filming some more. Exterior shots, bicycle shots, night shots – we had to get them all. But it all helped me fully appreciate, and capitalize on, another exciting feature of the Ford KA+: it’s very small turning radius and unwavering agility at every single turn and U-turn or getting in or out of a parking space! So after I have added ice scrapers to the Ford KA+‘s equipment I am off again to stand in front of the Brandenburg Gate at 6am for a photo shoot!

Minimal input How you train is the deciding factor for the output of my exercise units. My regime is based on the HIIT principle which stands for High Intensity Interval Training. It’s a short & high performing system in which you boost your own heart rate to extremes in order to push your entire body to its performance limit. This approach makes the individual exercise units are shorter but still yields great results.

Spicy Grapefruit-Ginger Punch
During the cold months we love to indulge in a cup of hot punch that warms us from the inside out and brings a rosy glow to our cheeks. The punch originates from India and was discovered there by English sailors in the 17th century before being brought back to Europe. In India, a traditional »Pantsch«(which translates to ‘five’) is comprised of five ingredients: lemon, sugar, water, tea, and arrack (a strong spirit made from rice or sugar cane). Tip: Add a teaspoon of cinnamon to the punch before cooking for a festive touch.
INGREDIENTS (for 2 to 3 portions) 25 g Ginger ½ lemon (untreated) 150 ml Grapefruit Juice 500 ml

Rum To Your Preference
1. Peel the ginger and cut into slices. Wash lemon and cut in half. Extract the juice from one half, and cut the other half into wedges. 2. Add ginger, grapefruit juice, wine, honey and lemon juice and wedges into a pot and simmer for around 20 minutes on low heat. Eventually add more honey to taste. 3. Pour the hot punch into glasses and add around 2 tablespoons of rum, to taste.
