OUR STORY
Welcome to Sitka
A Place to Nurture Your Creative Spirit The Sitka Center for Art and Ecology is dedicated to inspiring creativity in everyone. Our Center is nestled amongst Sitka spruce trees with a rich understory of ferns and mosses. We can see the ocean, and the Salmon River estuary is a short walk away. It is a special place. We invite you to experience Sitka for yourself. Step off the familiar path of your daily routine and step into a studio with expert instructors and curious classmates. Come learn new skills, hone your art and push your boundaries. At Sitka, inspiration is often found in the details: a fern frond swaying gently in the summer breeze, a stone carving snuggled into the landscape. Nature and imagination come together to create a distinctive place of learning and exploration. But, for all the beauty of our location, what breathes life into our program is you! We offer a wide variety of workshops. Peruse the catalog. Be curious. Turn down the page corners and mark the topics that capture your attention. There are three ways to explore this Workshop Catalog:
• Chronological order on pages 11 to 38. • By subject on pages 46 to 47. • Online with search options at www.sitkacenter.org.
Or, call us if you have any questions at (541) 994-5485. Venture out, take a workshop, infuse more creativity into your life and make our world a brighter place. See you in 2014!

OUR STORY
ABOUT
About the Sitka Center The Sitka Center for Art and Ecology is a non-profit organization offering workshops and residencies. Founded in 1970, Sitka is a place to explore and nurture creative and ecological pursuits. It’s located on the central Oregon coast between Lincoln City and Neskowin near Cascade Head and the Salmon River estuary, and is part of the Cascade Head Scenic Research Area. For 44 years, Sitka has emphasized making connections between people and place. At Sitka diverse people come together, converge ideas and depart transformed. During the summer months, late May through September, nearly 1,000 students take one or more of Sitka’s 100+ workshops in visual art, writing, ecology and music. Workshops are one to five days in length and are held at or near the Sitka Center. Those interested in teaching at Sitka in 2015 are encouraged to submit a workshop proposal online by September 1, 2014. From October to May, Sitka hosts artists, writers, natural scientists and musicians, at varying stages in their careers, in our Residency Program. Residents stay for up to 3½ months and are provided with housing and studio space, free of charge, to delve deeply into their work. Residency applications are due on April 18 for residencies beginning this fall. The Resident Show & Tell and Mingle and Muse events (page 6) offer opportunities to visit the Sitka Center and listen to free presentations by our talented instructors, residents and local community members at times throughout the year. In November, Sitka heads to Portland for the Sitka Art Invitational (page 7), a premier exhibit and sale of approximately 450+ contemporary works of art by Northwest artists that explore the theme of nature. A selection of workshops is offered as part of the festivities in the week leading up to the exhibit. Whether as a student, instructor, resident, visitor or volunteer, we invite you to be a part of the Sitka Center. Take part in making our world a brighter place by nurturing your creativity. For more information, please visit our website at www.sitkacenter.org or call (541) 994-5485.
