Read the article and complete the exercises below. Check with the group. HOW A FOOD PROCESSOR WORKS A very common electric kitchen appliance nowadays is the food processor. In many instances, it works as an independent unit, but in other cases it is an accessory to be used with the motor base of the blender. Most of the instructions and procedures you learn here are applicable for the blender as well. Besides, the parts of the food processor are not unique to one brand name, or type; they all share the same basic parts. Let’s get to know what they are. Putting together the food processor • Cover: The cover has a pour-through feature that allows you to add liquid ingredients while you process food. • Blade: the blade is usually the metal part shaped as a “S” and it has been designed for chopping and mincing. The curve in the blade adapts to the shape of the bowl. You must always be very careful when handling the blade because it’s extremely sharp. • Processor bowl: This bowl for processing food has a curve interior. The objective of this shape is to allow you to process types of food that are hard to chop quickly. • Storage cover: The storage cover is placed over the processor bowl to store food you have processed in the refrigerator for a short period. • Adaptor: The adaptor is the part of the food processor that transfers the power of the motor to the blade. This adaptor needs to be on the motor base when you want to remove the processor bowl.
