WOODLAND WONDERLAND
A Tranquil Coloring Retreat
WOODLAND WONDERLAND
A Tranquil Coloring Retreat
Introduction
Walk through an old-growth forest and feel the majesty of the trees that surround and tower above you. Breathe deeply of that distinctive evergreen smell and feel the soft sponginess of the forest floor that quiets your footfalls as you walk. Continue on, and you’ll see a fern glistening from a recent rain or find a colorful mushroom. Or perhaps you will happen upon a waterfall, a profoundly magical experience.
In this book, I highlighted native woodland plants and fauna that have particularly made an impact on me. You’ll find understory plants and flowers to color such as trillium, native sunflower, lupine, sword fern, columbine, foxglove, wild carrot, and luscious blackberries. You’ll discover a myriad of polypores, amanitas, chanterelles, and other mushrooms, along with moths, butterflies and more. And delight in coloring the denizens of the wood, from the majestic wolf to the smallest field mouse. Take your time and slow down, just like you would on a walk in the forest, enjoying nature’s treasures.
Colored pencils are an easy place to start on your coloring journey, but don’t hold back if you want to try markers, pastels, gel pens, or watercolor pencils! Please tag me @rachelreinertstudio on Instagram so I can share how you splashed color on these pages!
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Hi! I’m Rachel—artist, author, and art educator. I live in Portland, Oregon, with my daughter and husband, along with a couple of chickens. My greatest inspiration comes from nature— venturing into the nearby forest to find natural pigments to make paint from, foraging for mushrooms, and hiking to local waterfalls. I’m an active member of the Oregon Mycological Society and am working on my Backyard Habitat Certification. I have three coloring books inspired by nature: Botanical Wonderland, Desert Wonderland, and Floral Wonderland. My other two books on art and coloring instruction are Color Workshop: A Step-by-Step Guide to Creating Artistic Effects and In Bloom: A Step-by-Step Guide to Drawing Fresh Florals and can be found online, in bookstores, or wherever creative books are sold. I also offer an online coloring course called Coloring Master Class on my website, rachelreinert.com. Also please visit me on Instagram @rachelreinertstudio.
