ABOUT SJI INTERNATIONAL
St. Joseph’s Institution International is a nonprofit co-educational school with a Lasallian Catholic foundation. It offers a holistic, values-driven and international educational experience to a diverse student body of over 40 nationalities rooted in the context of Singapore. Our community welcomes students, teachers, parents, friends and supporters of all faiths and cultural backgrounds.
SJI International was established in 2007. A labour of love from a team of alumnus of St. Joseph’s Institution (SJI) - one of Singapore’s oldest and most respected schools. SJI has been notable over the years for its capacity to develop leaders of Singapore society, including members of the current government, business, academia, church and community. Having benefited so profoundly from their own education at SJI, the ‘Old Boys’ sought a way to offer Singaporean and expatriate children a similar life-changing experience.
SJI International is overseen by a Board of Governors, comprising SJI alumni and the school’s Patron is fellow Josephian Dr Tony Tan, former President of the Republic of Singapore.
Today, SJI International high school is one of just three schools in Singapore with a licence to educate both Singaporean and international students; and holds an outstanding reputation for quality education.
Drawing upon the best practices of leading international schools in the world, as well as the ethos of the global network of Lasallian schools, the high school offers an academically rigorous programme while developing our students to become thinking and caring global citizens, who are at the same time securely rooted in their community, share common values and have a genuine spiritual awareness.
As a Lasallian Catholic School, we believe that character education lies at the heart of what we do. It is our mission to help the children become people of integrity and people who care for others and the world in which we live.
The 2022 cohort of 198 students scored an average of 39 points; significantly above the world average of 30.91. Past SJI International graduates have included recipients of numerous scholarships including the prestigious PSC (Public Service Commission) overseas merit scholarships, many have secured admission into top international universities such as Harvard University, Stanford University, MIT and Yale University in the USA, as well as Cambridge University and Oxford University in the UK. Graduates who decided to continue their studies locally have included successful enrolments to some of the most competitive courses in Singapore including Dentistry, Law and Medicine at the National University of Singapore (NUS).
BY THE NUMBERS
As a Lasallian school, SJI International strives to bring education to all, especially the last, the lost and the least. The SJI International Scholarship Programme was originally set up to attract outstanding students, regardless of background, and it has played an important role in allowing SJI International to become a school that is widely recognised for its outstanding academic results within a very holistic programme.

INTERNATIONALLY RESPECTED QUALIFICATION
The two-year IB Diploma Programme is an academically challenging, rewarding and highly-respected qualification, recognised by universities around the world.
IB Diploma Programme students are valued for their high academic standards, in addition, the IB Learner Profile helps students to become critical thinkers who are open-minded, resilient and reflective and have a greater understanding of the wider world.
In order to achieve the IB Diploma, all students study six subjects: three at Higher Level and three at Standard Level from 6 categories; 2 Languages, Mathematics, Sciences, Humanities and the Arts. In addition, students write an Extended Essay and follow a critical thinking course entitled Theory of Knowledge. We also encourage our students to study hard and become involved in school and community activities through the Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) required element of the programme.
SUPPORTIVE AND NURTURING TEACHERS
Our teaching team are not only highly qualified and passionate educators, they are nurturing and caring. They take the time to get to know our Scholars as individuals. They adopt a child-centred and active learning approach to support our Scholars with everything they need to understand, and to fulfil their full potential.
SCHOOL ETHOS: THE LASALLIAN DIFFERENCE
In addition to preparing our Scholars to do well academically for the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme examinations, they will receive a broader holistic education with opportunities for them to discover their interests and talents in a caring, respectful and inclusive community with a strong emphasis on character and leadership development. As a Lasallian school, our scholars learn to have faith, whatever their faith tradition may be, to believe in themselves and in others. Our scholars live out their faith by actively showing concern for those who are less fortunate in our society, demonstrating the school mission of ‘enabling students to learn how to learn and learn how to live as Lasallian people for others.’
THE IB DIPLOMA PROGRAMME MODEL
IB Diploma Programme Requirements
Over the course of the two-year programme, students study six subjects chosen from six subject groups:
• Three subjects are studied at Higher Level (HL)
• Three subjects are studied at Standard Level (SL)
• Plus three core requirements:
Extended Essay (EE)
Theory of Knowledge (TOK)
Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS)
Theory of Knowledge provides an opportunity for students to reflect on the nature, scope and limitations of knowledge and the process of knowing. The main focus of TOK is not on students acquiring new knowledge but on helping students to reflect on, and put into perspective, what they already know.
The Extended Essay is intended to promote high-level research and writing skills, intellectual discovery and creativity while engaging students in personal research. This leads to a major piece of formally presented, structured writing of up to 4,000 words.
Creativity, Activity, Service participation enhances personal and interpersonal development through experiential learning. Scholars will get to choose from a wide range of CAS activities and to even initiate their own CAS activities in consultation with teachers.
SERVICE LEARNING
As a Lasallian institution, service Learning is central in defining who we are and what we want our students to become.
SJI International strives to nurture openhearted and open-minded students who have a strong sense of purpose, belonging and social responsibility.
All High School students are involved in regular direct service activities from Grades 7 to 12. Service projects are supervised by tutors or service leaders and as students progress through High School, they are given more voice and choice in the projects they participate in but are encouraged to be actively engaged in each stage of service learning (investigation, preparation, action, reflection and demonstration) at all grade levels.
INTERNATIONAL LEARNING ENVIRONMENT
Our teaching team are not only highly qualified and passionate educators, they are nurturing and caring. They take the time to get to know our Scholars as individuals. They adopt a child-centred and active learning approach to support our Scholars with everything they need to understand, and to fulfil their full potential.
LASALLIAN NETWORK
SJI International is one of 6 Lasallian schools in Singapore. These schools are part of the legacy of our founder, St John Baptiste de la Salle, the French priest who, in 1680, started this order of religious Brothers dedicated to bringing education to all, especially ‘the last, the lost and the least’.
With the cornerstone values of faith, community and service, there are currently 4,000 Lasallian Brothers and around 100,000 Lasallian teachers working in 79 countries around the world.
