Enabling students to learn how to learn and to learn how to live as Lasallian people for others
SJI International was founded in January 2007 and is part of the Catholic educational tradition of the De La Salle Christian Brothers. The school is one of three in Singapore with a license to educate both Singaporean and international students.
Learning at the High School has four core pillars: Academic, Service and Co-Curricular Learning, and Outdoor Education.

COLLEGE ADMISSIONS INFORMATION
GRADING OVERVIEW
SJI INTERNATIONAL
• The language of instruction is English.
• The academic year runs from January to December with students sitting November IGCSE and IB exams. The Class of 2023 will graduate on November 18 2023, with final IB results expected in early January 2024.
UNIVERSITY COUNSELLING POLICIES
• Students are not ranked or awarded GPA’s.
• University Counsellors do not complete tick rating boxes on recommendation forms.
• Disciplinary infractions resulting in a fixed term external exclusion are disclosed if requested.
COUNSELLORS:
• Final IGCSE grades by the CAIE are awarded on an A* - G scale; final IB grades by the IBO are awarded on a 1 - 7 scale with 7 being the highest.
• In 2021 SJI International transitioned from a 1 - 7 grading scale to an A* - G grading scale for Grades 9 and 10. Hence the Class of 2023 was assessed on a 1 - 7 grading scale in Grade 9 and an A* - G scale in Grade 10.
• Physical Education and Religious Education are assessed on a Pass/Fail scale.
• Grades 11 and 12 are assessed on a 1 - 7 scale, with 7 being the highest, following the IB Diploma grading scale. IB Theory of Knowledge is assessed on an A through E scale, with E being a failing condition.
• IB Predicted Grades are awarded in October, just before students sit for final examinations and graduate in November.
SINGAPORE CONTEXT
• All Singaporean Citizens and Permanent Residents must fulfil the Ministry of Education Mother Tongue Language Requirement. Hence a student’s choice of languages throughout High School is usually restricted.
• Male Singaporean Citizens and Permanent Residents completing their compulsory two years of Singapore National Service are supported by the University Counsellors at SJI International through their university applications, including submitting all official high school documents and letters of recommendation.

In keeping with the four pillars of our programme, students are discouraged from taking four subjects at the Higher Level in the IB Diploma.
Non-Singaporean students admitted on a scholarship are required to study their Home Language.
THE SERVICE LEARNING, CO-CURRICULAR LEARNING AND OUTDOOR EDUCATION PROGRAMMES (CLASS OF 2023)
All students in Grades 7 - 12 engage in Service Learning, Co-Curricular Learning and Outdoor Education. Between 2020 and 2022 since direct interaction was not possible due to COVID restrictions, service learning took place through means such as advocacy or virtually.
Students at SJI International have opportunities to support a range of communities locally and abroad by engaging in direct service, indirect service, advocacy and research. Supported by the CCA programme, students can join existing service projects, support established organisations or may establish and lead a new service project to attempt to solve an identified need.
As a requirement of the IB Diploma, the Class of 2023 worked collaboratively with their tutor group to support an overseas charity which aligned with the interests and backgrounds of their peers. This required students to assign roles, communicate with external stakeholders and work collaboratively for 6 months culminating in ‘CAS Project Week’ which is an important event on our school calendar.
From Grade 7 onwards, all students participate in challenging residential experiences overseas. All students in Grade 9 complete the National Youth Achievement Bronze Award, an internationally recognised programme similar to the UK Duke of Edinburgh scheme. From Grade 10 onwards students can choose to continue to the Silver and Gold Awards.

SAT/ACT TESTS
Standardised exams have always been a barrier and have caused a great deal of anxiety in our community.
• As students sit their final IB examinations in November, there are no SAT/ACT test dates that fit seamlessly with the calendar.
• In keeping with the four pillars of our programme, students are not encouraged to spend excessive amounts of time preparing for standardised tests.
Students at SJI International will generally only take a standardised test if required and universities should not expect a standardised test result otherwise.
