Zürich ist eine Weltstadt. Bekannt für ihre Schönheit, ihre einmalige Lage am See und ihre Bedeutung als Business-Stadt. Doch sie ist auch eine Kunst- und Kulturstadt von internationaler Ausstrahlung. Eine Tatsache, die sich im Park Hyatt Zürich auf beeindruckende Weise in einer hochkarätigen Liaison von Kunst und Architektur widerspiegelt. Dabei bietet der avantgardistische Bau die perfekte Bühne für die hauseigene Kunstsammlung. Seit jeher sind Kunst und die Marke Park Hyatt eng miteinander verbunden. Dabei ist diese jedoch nicht als Dekorationselement zu verstehen, sondern steht – gleich wie in einer Kunstgalerie oder einem Museum – für sich und soll zu einer bewussten Auseinandersetzung und dem Erleben von Kunst einladen.

MIT ELEGANZ UND HUMOR Ob im Erdgeschoss, den Zwischenetagen, dem Spa- und Wellnessbereich oder den Restaurants – im ganzen Haus befinden sich 91 Werke der klassischen Moderne und Gegenwart. Darunter berühmte Künstlerinnen und Künstler wie Sol LeWitt, Heinz Mack, Günther Uecker, Piero Dorazio, Anne Blum, Hans Hartung und viele mehr. Sorgsam kuratiert wurde Sammlung bereits während der Entstehungsphase des Park Hyatt Zürich. Federführend war Dr. Fritz W. Meyer, ein ebenso passionierter wie renommierter Kunstsammler. Entstanden ist eine Kollektion, die auf Provokatives verzichtet, dafür auf Eleganz und Schönheit setzt und dabei den Humor und das Augenzwinkern nicht vergisst, wie Cartoons und Karikaturen von Ted Scapa in Ruheräumen und Vestibülen beweisen.

KUNSTGENUSS PUR Nach dem durchschlagenden Erfolg geführter Art Tours im letzten Jahr bietet das Park Hyatt Zürich diese nun auch 2020 und 2021 an. Ähnlich wie bei einem Museumsbesuch werden während der Führungen die verschiedenen Bilder, Skulpturen oder Installationen mit Erklärungen zu ihrer Herkunft, konzeptuellen Entwicklung und Bedeutung präsentiert. Und wer eine private und zeitlich flexible Führung wünscht, dem steht die Möglichkeit offen, seinen ganz persönlichen Art Concierge zu buchen.

Das Augenmerk auf die Kunst zu richten lohnt sich. Bereits beim Eintritt in das Park Hyatt begrüssen die Besucher zwei grosse Gouachen des US-amerikanischen Künstlers Sol LeWitt aus dem Jahr 1996, die den Auftakt zu seinem monumentalen Hauptwerk gleich über dem Eingang markieren. Es ist dies eine grossformatige Wandzeichnung von stattlichen 53 Quadratmetern, die mit ihren dynamisch fliessenden Bändern einen Kontrapunkt zur funktionalen Formsprache des Gebäudes setzt. Eigens für das Park Hyatt Zürich kreiert, wurde die Wandzeichnung 2004 direkt von einem engen Mitarbeiter LeWitts aufgetragen. Denn: Als Verfechter der Konzeptkunst folgte Sol LeWitt der Formel „Das Konzept ist die Kunst“, die das Konzept im Vorfeld zur Kunst erhob und die Ausführung selbst in den Hintergrund drängte. Und so liesse sich nach

einer Ausstellung eine Wandzeichnung abwaschen und gemäss einer detaillierten Beschreibung und Skizze woanders wieder anbringen. Auch das erfährt man auf einer Art Tour.

VON DIALOGEN UND FARBLICHER STRAHLKRAFT Eng mit seinem Standort beschäftigt sich auch die Installation der Schweizer Künstlerin Martina Vontobel. Mit ihrer Arbeit „Network“, die seit 2016 prominent in der Lobby des Hotels positioniert ist, thematisiert sie die Idee des Networking an einem Ort, an dem Menschen aus allen Nationen zusammenkommen. Imposant aus fünf 3 x 3 Meter grossen „Kupfernetzen“ gefertigt, stützt sich das Werk selbst und steht auf spannungsvolle Weise im Dialog mit der gegenüberliegenden Wandzeichnung LeWitts. Zu bestaunen sind ebenso die Vitrinen im Kaminsaal, die der muranesischen Glaskunst des Designers Paolo Venini gewidmet sind oder die Farblithografien des Künstlers Serge Poliakoff, der als

Vertreter der abstrakten Kunst mit Farbfeldern und „Farbklängen“ arbeitete und so den Eindruck von Bewegung erweckt. Von höchster Leuchtkraft und von der Empfangshalle aus sichtbar ist das Bild „Lumière et Couleur“ über dem Präsentationstisch. Ein neun Quadratmeter grosses Auftragswerk aus dem Jahr 2004 des 1931 geborenen deutschen Künstlers Heinz Mack, seines Zeichens Gründer der Künstlergruppe ZERO und einer der Hauptvertreter der Kinetischen Kunst. Weitere bemerkenswerte Arbeiten sind 12 Abzüge der in Kairo lebenden Fotografin Anne Blum und das Bild der „Sitting Lady“ aus dem Jahre 1972 der britischen Malerin und Architektin Lynn Chadwick.

Doch dies alles ist nur eine verschwindend kleine Auswahl von dem, was es auf sechs Etagen zu entdecken gibt. Und warum die Neue Zürcher Zeitung anlässlich der Eröffnung des Park Hyatt Zürich vor 16 Jahren „Kunsthaus mit Übernachtungsmöglichkeit“ titelte, weiss man spätestens nach einer Art Tour. 

A fact that Park Hyatt Zurich impressively reflects through a high-level liaison of art and architecture. The avant-garde structure provides the perfect stage for its in-house art collection. Art and the Park Hyatt brand have always been closely interlinked. This should not be interpreted as an ornamental element, on the contrary – as in an art gallery or a museum – the art work can stand alone and should entice you to consciously confront and experience the works.

WITH ELEGANCE AND HUMOUR On the ground floor, in the mezzanines, at the Spa and Wellness area or in the restaurants – throughout the entire hotel there are 91 classic modern and contemporary pieces. These include works from famous artists such as Sol LeWitt, Heinz Mack, Gunther Uecker, Piero Dorazio, Anne Blum, Hans Hartung and many more. The collection was meticulously curated as early as the development phase of the Park Hyatt Zurich. Dr. Fritz W. Meyer played the leading role, an equally passionate and renowned art collector. The result is a collection that foregoes the provocative element, capitalizing instead on elegance and beauty and at the same time not forgetting the humour and fun element, presented, for example, in cartoons and caricatures by Ted Scapa in relaxation areas and vestibules. PURE PLEASURE IN ART Following the sweeping success of guided Art Tours last year, Park Hyatt Zurich is now offering it again in 2020 and 2021 Similar to a museum visit, the various pictures, sculptures or installations will be presented during the tour with explanations on their origin, conceptual development and meaning. And for those seeking a private and flexibly scheduled tour, there is the option of booking your own personal Art Concierge.

It is worthwhile directing your attention to the artwork. At the entrance to Park Hyatt you are greeted by two large Gouaches by US-American artist Sol LeWitt from 1996, which highlight the beginning of his monumental main

work directly above the entrance. It is this large format wall drawing boasting an impressive 53 square metres, which forms a counterpoint to the functional design language of the building with its dynamic flowing bands. Created specifically for Park Hyatt Zurich, the wall drawing was applied directly by a close Team member of LeWitt in 2004. Because, as an advocate of conceptual art, Sol LeWitt followed the formula „The concept is the art“, which raised the concept before the art to upstage the execution itself. And consequently a wall drawing was washed off after an exhibition and applied elsewhere again following a detailed description and sketch. Something else we can learn on an Art Tour.

OF DIALOGUES AND COLOURFUL RADIANCE The installation by Swiss artist Martina Vontobel also deals closely with its location. In her artwork „Network“, which has been prominently positioned in the hotel lobby since 2016, she broaches the issue of networking at a location, at which people from all nations come together. Created from five impressive 3 x 3 metre „copper nets“, the work supports itself and is, in an exciting way, in dialogue with the wall drawing by LeWitts, positioned opposite the installation. The display cabinets in the Kaminsaal (fireplace room) are also well worth a view; they are dedicated to Murano glass art by the Designer Paolo Venini or colour lithographs by the artist Serge Poliakoff,

who worked with colour fields and „colour tones“ as a representative of abstract art to create the impression of movement. The picture „Lumière et Couleur“, with the highest level of luminosity, is visible above the presentation table from the reception hall. A nine square metre commissioned work from 2004 by the German artist, Heinz Mack, born in 1931, founder of the artist group ZERO and one of the main representatives of kinetic art. Other notable works include 12 prints from photographer Anne Blum, who lives in Cairo, and the picture the „Sitting Lady“ from 1972 by the British painter and architect, Lynn Chadwick.

But this is all just a miniscule selection from what can be discovered on 6 stories. And the reason why the Neue Zürcher Zeitung headlined with „Kunsthaus (art museum) with overnight accommodation“ on the occasion of the opening of Park Hyatt Zurich 16 years ago, will become apparent after the Art Tour. 
