It’s with greatest delight that I tender my candidature for the position of treasurer for the term 2022/2023.

I am Alimamy Alhassan Bangura, a fifth-year medical student.

My financial journey started after I was introduced to a family business which involved acting as a manager for more than twenty workers after taking my secondary school examinations. At that time I was so young for the responsibility but I molted into a young manager.

since my inception into medical school, i became attracted to SCORA after the orientation by our active NORA at that time and started participating in the commemoration of important events and engaged in school sensitizations and mostly volunteered in small working groups

During my premedical years i was unanimously chosen to be the class treasurer after reporting a sum of money given to me for the class by a senior colleague unknowing to them. The trust I have built among my colleagues over the years is being manifested by consistently winning the best Class ambassador monthly

I have also served in the capacity of organizing Secretary for College Of Medicine Muslim Jamaa't since premed 2 to fourth year where I harnessed my event planning skills added to the financial management.

MOTIVATIONAL LETTER

I served in the capacity of Logistics and technical support team member for the just held African Regional Meeting in Sierra Leone which was a face-lift for our noble association.

Earlier this academic year I was appointed as the Minister of Finance for the students Representative Council where I worked fervently to serve with humility to the general student body and continue with the transparency and accountability that I am accustomed to.

My long harbored burning desire to serve SLEMSians in this capacity had always been a dream this driven desire pushes me towards the g my financial acuity.

PLAN OF ACTION

ENTREPRENEURSHIPSEMINAR:-1.

The road to success in entrepreneurship throws up unique challenges not found in any other career path. Over the last couple of years, we have seen an increase in the number of SLEMSians owning small to medium-scale businesses across the board. During the executive term, we are going to organize a day seminar with facilitators from different fields of business. The seminar will also serve as a platform for presentation of “Business Ideas” as in a form of modified Dr Willoughby Award. There will be an increase in the cash prize of the award.

I have already established contact with some of the facilitators and they are more than ready to assist.

The implementation strategy of this project will be as follows:-

Call for participants and “Business Idea” project proposals will be made.

Winners of major Business Ideas nationwide will be invited to give a talk.

Business Idea Hub will be established for continued mentorship from the facilitators

Certificate of participation will be awarded.

2.MERCHANDISEANDIDCARDS:-

SLEMSians have been without a valid form of identification in the last couple of consecutive executives terms, we cannot over emphasize the importance of valid ID cards, therefore, I am going to work with the rest of the executive board to ensure that we provide quality means of identification at an affordable price. I have already contacted printing companies for this project, and we can be assured to have them done within the first quarter of the executive term.

Merchandise production and sales has not been that successful over the last couple of years, with my team of class ambassadors and executive board we are going to re-evaluate the existing production, purchase and direct selling scheme. This can be achieved by:-

Evaluation of current stock and prizing.

Class-to-class visitation to evaluate the needs of members.

A call for order will be made at the start of the executive term to prevent overproduction.

3.COMAHSTALENTFESTIVAL

Since the inception of MEDFEST more than five years ago, successive organizing committees have struggled to pull off the event; there have been numerous challenges that serve as a major hindrance to its success. The lack of partnership between internal organizations has been one major factor. The following will be key in enhancing a bigger and successful outcome:-

Inter-faculty Talent Explosion Competition (Dancing, Fashion, Rap Music, Miming, etc)

Having representatives from all faculties to be part of the organizing committee.

The involvement of the administration as the primary sponsor for the event.

Collaboration with previous sponsors.

4.NATIONALMOBILECLINICS

Our standing committees over the years have done extremely well in organising screening programs. I believe that we can implement these projects at a national level and reap some cash. Our implementation strategies will be as follows:-

Work with previous standing committee directors to evaluate past projects.

Collaborate with directors and finance assistants to work on a comprehensive budget.

Identification of sites and facilities for implementation (Eg: Religious places of worship, Government institutions, private institutions, etc) Approach pharmaceutical companies for sponsorship

5.TRAVELOPPORTUNITIESINIFMSA

Travelling to IFMSA events has been a major challenge for many over the years. It is obvious that we have been represented in meetings consecutively over this period, but the number of delegates cannot be compared to other countries in the subregion. The challenges ranging from lack of primary sponsorship from partners, high cost of flight tickets, to mention but a few.

There are so many opportunities within IFMSA that we can tap into as an NMO. The just concluded Africa Regional Meeting serve as an eye opener or a gateway to these opportunities. As the Treasurer, working closely with the rest of the executive, I will ensure the following:-

Organise online sessions to enlighten members about existing opportunities in the Federation (Travel Assistant Fund and Professor Erik Host Fund)

Provide members with assistance letters to raise funds in collaboration with president and secretary general. Advocate to national partners for travel assistant funds.

6.CONTINUITYOFPREVIOUSLEGACIES

Our beloved association has been in existence for the past ten years, this is as a result of the perseverance, diligent and hardwork previous executives, directors, ambassadors and organizing committees or small working groups have placed in. The office of the Treasurer has done extremely well in boosting our finances over these years. I am going to ensure we continue in this trajectory. The following will be done in this regard:-

Establish a conducive and transparent working environment for all executive board members, finance assistants, ambassadors and external partners.

Continuation of Treasury Bearer Bond

Effective and regular updates on the association's finances. Training sessions for finance assistants, class ambassadors and interested members on various financial services.
