WELCOME HEALTH
Welcome to the summer 'Glow' issue 2021
T
he warmer days are creeping in and at last we can see signs of what will hopefully be a special summer ahead. The gentle lifting of lockdown means we are finally able to get together with friends and family that we've all missed so much. At the time of writing we are expecting further restrictions to ease from 21st June. Venues that have remained closed since last March will be able to re-open, although masks may still be required in some public spaces and the test and trace system will continue. From dinner parties, house guests and weddings, to wine bars, theatres and fitness classes, as we cautiously step back out into the world, we can start to reclaim the every day things we took for granted pre-lockdown.

JEWELLERY
Beautiful organic statement pieces, inspired by the elements By Eleanor Jackson - ash&stones • Eco Concious Jewellery
Stamford based Eleanor Jackson created her sustainable and ethical jewellery business from her parents kitchen in 2018. Three years on, she tells QueenBee about ash&stones and how lockdown helped shape her journey...

ettle in and let me tell you the story of how ash&stones came to be. It all began in the winter of 2018 at 1800m above sea level, somewhere on the border between France and Italy. As any creative mind will know, we’re not the best at making decisions, especially when it comes to how we are going to make our creative passions a life career. Well, there I was at 23, running a chalet at a small ski resort, barricaded in by snow (a very good analogy of how I was feeling at the time) and wondering what on earth I was doing with my life. Having travelled since the age of 18, I had always been drawn to anything jewellery related. At college I made necklaces from vegetables, whilst in Melbourne I lived with an opal miner who regularly brought home samples for me to ogle, and when feeling like an alien in my 4th floor walk-up in France, I played constantly with aluminium wire trying to make it into something that resembled jewellery.
Each piece is inspired by the elements, using shapes and forms that I have seen during my travels and created with a freeform technique paired with the ancient process of lost wax casting. QueenBee magazine
One day when all around our little mountain home was white, I began to research London jewellery schools and fell upon the British Academy of Jewellery. I started there in the September, abandoning my poor husband to fend for himself in the French countryside, and fell in love with the process of jewellery design and production. The workshop felt like home. I began working on very simple pieces in my parents kitchen from an old woodworking bench (but was forced to stop when my mother almost choked on a stray piece of silver!) and set up my first Instagram account to share my creations. My husband and I have a passion for sustainability, and hope in the coming years to set up a permaculture farm near Nantes in France, so I only felt > Glow issue 2021

comfortable making pieces with recycled metals and re-loved coins. When we moved together to Stamford at the end of 2019 I turned the spare room into my workshop and finally launched what is now ash&stones jewellery on my 25th birthday. After months of furlough, and the time and space to reflect and create, I felt like the time was right to share my jewels with the world. Each piece is inspired by the elements, using shapes and forms that I have seen during my travels and created with a freeform technique that I have developed naturally over time paired with the ancient process of lost wax casting. As any small business will know, this year an online presence has been the essential gateway to gaining customers. We’ve had to be makers, managers, social media experts, accountants, and be clued up on all things marketing, finance and website design. It was a laborious process made so worth it when Christmas 2020 came and it felt as though small businesses were getting the recognition we work so hard for.
Onto 2021 and I faced a new challenge when I lost my day job that had lent me the security to be able to make jewellery in my spare time. But, from ashes comes new beginnings and I am embarking on this new chapter as a full time jeweller with an enthusiastic passion and the dream that this little business of mine will blossom into something I can be truly proud of. For those of you who have supported ash&stones through the weirdest year to date, thank you from the bottom of my heart. > Visit the website www.ashandstones.co.uk

Summer fashion With the easing of lockdown well underway, we're casting our attention to what we're going to wear for all those social events that are filling our diaries. After a year of changing from pyjamas into loungewear and then back into pjs every day, we are OH SO ready to look ahead and see what the warmer months have in store for us in the style department. Think gingham, floaty dresses, straw bags, slip-on footwear and oversized sunnies >

On your marks, get set, glow! By Michelle Abbott @maison_abbott
T
he mood is definitely lifting! We are all starting to look forward with anticipation to future plans and events and our calendars are punctuated with tentative or actual dates to go out!
Now that we can see past the comfort of our loungewear (although we won’t be abandoning this cocooning attire), we want to wear clothes which make us feel like we are part of the larger world again. We want to awaken our sartorial senses, embrace the opportunity to dress for an occasion other than a supermarket visit, and glow with confidence whilst we do it! Where do we start? Fortunately, Summer is arriving, so we can focus our attention on lighter fabrics and add colour or print into the equation. It feels so good to shed the layers we have been wrapped up in for so long and embrace a simpler way to dress. My top tip this season is to find the perfect dress; if you’re taller, look for something with volume, lots of fabric to swish around in, cinched at the waist, and in a beautiful print or bold colour. If you prefer a sleeker look, try an empire line style or a slip dress. Look for a square neckline or a puffed sleeve (or both), and a midi length. A ditsy floral in summery hues will work now into the Summer and beyond. Always think about the sustainability of the pieces you buy, so look for emerging >

independent brands which offer designs made from beautiful deadstock or recycled fabric - you would not believe how gorgeous a summer dress can look crafted from old curtain fabric or duvet covers! Footwear to compliment your new dress? The chunky sandal is everywhere whether you prefer a flatform thong, or traditional fisherman style, or the ever present Birkenstock which is having a huge moment this season (look for the Madrid or Arizona styles in the modern ‘big buckle’ version). If you prefer something more delicate, the classic gladiator strappy or lace up sandal in classic tan or black, looks beautiful with any style of dress, and will serve you well year after year.

Accessorise with a gorgeous raffia or straw basket bag - always a strong style for summer, and add the finishing touches with simple gold hoop earrings and a chunky chain necklace. Hang on - this is Britain, so we need to prepare for inclement weather! ust before my 6th birthday my mother sat me down on the cold, hard, mud floor and told me to stay very still. She threw a towel over my neck and said in Bengali “acha tik asseh” which means “ok go ahead”. My uncle then picked up a noisy metal object and I could feel something scratchy sliding over my head and I watched in dismay as long pieces of jet-black hair fell onto the floor. I started to cry. My mother told me my head was full of nits and did I want to go to England with nits in my hair? My mother dragged me, sobbing, to the rickshaw and I squeezed in between my two sisters; we all rode to the embassy where my mother informed me that our passports would be ready to travel to England. Then she added “Won’t it be lovely to see father again?”
...I could feel something scratchy sliding over my head and I watched in dismay as long pieces of jet-black hair fell onto the floor. QueenBee magazine
You see, my father was already in the UK, specialising in psychiatry and we were going to be reunited. So that day, just before my passport photo was taken, my mother used a scarf to hide my bald head and then, as if to make a further improvement, she used a dark eye liner to outline my eyes, something that was culturally considered beautiful. She also found some pearls which she threw on for good measure. Fortunately, it's a photo that captivates all who see it. With my polka dot black and white chiffon dress, a stunning sixties apparel, cool eye make-up that could belong to the punk era, pearls that would usually adorn older women, they conclude that this eclectic image sums me up perfectly. > Glow issue 2021

LIFE
You see, most people who know me, know that I cannot be boxed and to try and define me is like trying to catch a butterfly. I arrived in Wales in 1966, without knowing a word of English, learning Welsh at the same time while speaking Bengali at home. As a finale, my father decided to spell my name Ami with an ‘i’. And here I am now, aged sixtyone, but often behaving like my shoe size, married three times and gifted with four beautiful grown-up daughters from my first husband.
I arrived in Wales in 1966, without knowing a word of English, learning Welsh at the same time while speaking Bengali at home.
Although I was expected to be a doctor, I was accepted for dentistry but then studied Theology and got a degree in education instead. I taught for over three decades, finally retiring early to run a sourdough business with my American husband number three. I hadn’t got a clue what I was doing except that I posted some photos and wrote some captions on Instagram about our sourdough venture and somehow ended up marketing our breads. My passport photo has become iconic. It reminds me that although I didn’t understand the implications of leaving Bangladesh for an unknown future, I wasn’t at all afraid. Leaving everyone I loved and everything familiar, I knew that there was an exciting journey ahead of me. And if anything were to sum me up it would be this; I always see my next chapter as an adventure > Follow Ami on Instagram @ bisbrooke_artisans

Warming up! Nazleen Reed, Physiotherapist and owner of Ultimate Performance Lifestyle Ltd tells us why it's so important to warm up your body before exercise
Are you guilty of exercising without warming up? I know I have been in the past. I remember playing a game of netball and my run from the car to the court was my only warm up! I got away with this for many years but later on in the day I often suffered with aches and pains. I now have knowledge and experience on the anatomy and physiology of movement and want to share the importance of preparing your body and mind for exercise. >

FITNESS
E
xercise can include anything from running, cycling, a game of football in the garden with your children to home DIY and gardening. Your body needs to prepare for exercise; believe me, it will thank you for it! Think about when you turn on your computer or mobile phone after it has been shut down - it takes a little while to reboot and just like your body, your brain needs to shift its attention to activity mode; joints need freeing up ready to go and your heart needs a gradual increase instead of an abrupt start. Muscles will be prepared for movements to come and your circulatory system will be ready. Here's my top five reasons why you should warm up before exercise and what impact it has on you: 1. R educe the chance of injury. Preparing your muscles and joints before exercise will increase body temperature, which in turn will loosen up your joints, muscles and tendons. 2. I ncrease oxygen delivery to your muscles. During a warm up your core temperature will rise which boosts blood flow to your muscles. This in turn will help the muscles increase energy production and will benefit your cardiovascular system and improve lung function.
3. E nhance your immune system. The warm up helps to improve your circulatory system, making the oxygenated blood reach every cell in the body. Strong circulation will nourish the body and make it more able to fight illness. 4. R ev up your nervous system. Nerve impulses will speed up due to a rise in core body temperature. This will improve the communication between muscles, fibres and nerves, therefore preparing the body for the workout ahead. 5. B oost your performance. The warm up session not only prepares your muscles and joints but also your heart and mind, which makes for better performance. Next time you go for your a run or game of tennis, remember that just five minutes of warm up can prevent you getting injured. It may even help you achieve a personal best or help you beat your opponent!

Fire in your belly!
F 58
By Louisa Parr
ire is one of the most important, powerful forces on earth. It’s a natural phenomenon and nature has evolved with its presence. Thousands upon thousands of years ago, fire changed the course of the world.
Just imagine how different life would be if those magical flames had never come into our lives? We wouldn’t have ovens to bake our favourite pizzas and no chocolate cake either! It just doesn’t bear thinking about.
Our ancestors used fire for heat, light and protection from predators. Over time they began to forge basic hand tools and were now cooking the meat they hunted.
Many cultures, religions and faiths see ‘fire’ as a symbol of great significance. There are those who believe that cremation must follow

death, as to bathe in the flames of fire after they die represents rebirth, new beginnings, releasing their souls ready for reincarnation. Similar to the Greek mythological bird, the Phoenix, that rose from the ashes, newly born again. Then there’s Lucifer himself, sitting within the depths of fiery hell - but the less said about him, the better! From a spiritual perspective, fire represents our passions, compulsions, zeal, creativity and motivation. The element of Fire has the power of forging will and determination. Many cultures view it as a symbol of wisdom and knowledge. For me, there’s something very alluring about fire, especially a camp fire (don’t worry, I’m not a pyromaniac), but its welcoming glow draws me in close. I could honestly sit for hours captivated, mesmerised by the dancing flames and their beautiful colours of gold, red, yellow and white. As the fire dies down, the deep orange burnished embers are awakened again when someone pokes them abruptly, preparing them for more wood to be placed onto the fire. I love to watch as another log is thrown into the flames; it crackles and pops as it begins to burn. The heat intensifies for a while
and sparks fly from the burning wood that look like tiny fire fairies, reaching high up into the darkness of the night, before they disappear from sight. That’s probably why one of my most favourite things to do is to sit around our chiminea at home with family and great friends. We chat, drink and laugh and generally put the world to rites. We toast giant marshmallows and if my youngest Son brings out his guitar, we have a song or two. It seems like ages since we did this and I remember the last time we had a similar gathering; I took a minute to study each of the faces sitting here with me. Every one of them was glowing, illuminated by the flames of the fire. And as I surveyed the view, I knew that I was, and still am, truly blessed. It’s a simple setting, but times like these are precious and after the year we’ve all had, I’m looking forward to sharing these moments again with the people I love, making new memories to treasure always Love and Light xx

RELATIONSHIPS HEALTH
A
ge 6-12 is the hardest age for children to deal with the break-up of their parents. They have the recollection of all the happy family times together and they do not understand or have the vocabulary to articulate how they are feeling. If handled well, parents can reduce the psychological effects divorce will have on their children. As parents, it is our duty to show them how to behave, so lead by example. Our parental role is to model core beliefs and moral values. Our responsibility is to uphold as parents when faced with a break-up and divorce. Children in the early years are like sponges and are very impressionable. If you shout and scream, they will think that is acceptable behaviour. They will mimic what they see and carry unsociable conduct into their adult life, because they know no different. Co-parenting or being a single mum or dad does not mean that your children will be dysfunctional, as long as you behave in a responsible, dignified and mature manner. You are the teacher. Children are not objects to be used in the push and pull of divorcing parents. They are not possessions to be fought over and divided up. They are precious, sensitive young people who are growing; they require both their parents to put their needs before their own. Keep listening and talking to your children and ask them how they are feeling. They need to have your full and undivided attention. Show them you are interested in how they are feeling QueenBee magazine
and take interest in what they are doing at school, etc. By communicating, co-operating and keeping a close relationship, your children will not suffer as a result of your separation. Instead, it will raise their confidence, self-worth and self-esteem. Children do not know how to verbalise how they are feeling. If your son or daughter is being rude, disruptive or naughty, then the root cause of this could possibly be due to frustration or fear. To alleviate your child’s fear and worries, support them by reminding them that they are loved by both parents. They need a sense of belonging. Be honest when talking about the breakup, but remember to take into account their age and level of understanding. Avoid any negative feelings you have for your ex-partner and don’t point the finger at either party. You are divorcing each other, not your children > If you are struggling with your break-up or divorce please contact me for an initial, free 20 minute consultation. Online sessions are available. Smarter entertainment: How full fibre can transform our downtime and upgrade our lives Rapid growth of home broadband has changed all of our lives and has had a transformative impact on the entertainment we consume. Netflix, which started life as a home DVD rental company, realised that with speeds continuing to get faster they could empower people to stream directly onto their screens. > QueenBee magazine

N
ow, Netflix is an industry giant. By the end of 2020, it had a total of 200 million subscribers, enormous revenue numbers and more than 500 new TV shows and movies preparing to launch. Also known as ‘Over The Top’ services, PWC predicts a surge in revenues in the space - from $46.4 billion in 2019 to $86.8 billion in 2024. In parallel, global data consumption is also predicted to rise significantly in that period, from 1.9

quadrillion megabytes to 4.9 quadrillion megabytes. This explosive growth wouldn’t be possible without robust broadband infrastructure, which is why CityFibre is working to bring full fibre technology to towns and cities across the UK, including across the East of England region. Full fibre networks, unlike many of the copper-based ‘fibre broadband’ services available, use 100% fibre optic cables to carry data at light

speed all the way from the home to the connection point. This gives users speeds of up to 1,000 Mbps for upload and download, near limitless bandwidth and connectivity users can depend on. These networks won’t just make streaming TV and movies easier. According to a report, the UK video games market generated £7 billion in 2020, driven by increased use due to the pandemic. Of that, some £4.55 billion was spent on software and a staggering 85% was on digital rather than physical boxed games. That goes some way to understanding Sony’s decision to launch two versions of its next-gen PlayStation 5 console, one with a disc drive and one without. With the latter, that means games must be downloaded via the internet – and with games getting bigger, that puts enormous strain on digital infrastructure, unless you have gigabitspeeds powered by full fibre. Of course, it’s not just within the home that full fibre can make a colossal difference. With events back on the horizon, organisers are looking to grab attention in an increasingly competitive landscape and full fibre has a part to play in that.
One example is a partnership between Vodafone and Wasps rugby club, where they used 5G – underpinned by full fibre - to transform the fan experience at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry (which benefits from a connection to CityFibre’s network). For fans in #5Gamechanger seats, they were able to use a smartphone to livestream footage from 360° cameras around the pitch and enjoy an augmented reality experience at half-time. And further innovations are underway, like the 5G Festival project in Brighton which aims to stream live music gigs to audiences across the globe by integrating 5G into venues in the city. Again, none of these experiences would be possible without full fibre. With technology driving so much change in the entertainment landscape, it’s vital that the East of England has a digital infrastructure which supports the innovations we know are coming – and the ones we’re yet to discover. Garden office
Client gifts
Many people are considering a garden office at the moment. Whilst you don’t get tax relief on the actual build of the structure, you DO get tax relief on anything you might spend to ‘kit-it-out’ with things like desks, wiring, heating, cooling, etc.
Quite often, you may decide to show your appreciation to customers and suppliers by sending a bouquet of flowers etc. Provided you don’t send food, drink or cash and the value is £50 or less then this becomes an eligible business cost – just remember to include your business name or logo with the gift.
Summer work's doo If you have employees, then you can spend up to £150 per head on an annual event such as a summer BBQ using business funds and it counts as an eligible business expense. Be careful not to go over the £150 a head otherwise the whole lot is disallowed. Remember to keep records to show the cost per head to support in case the tax man should request this. Air con unit install You might pre-empt the hot sweaty days of working in your office and install an air con unit using business funds. If you are a company, you get a “super-deduction” if the purchase was after 1st April 2021 which means that for each £100 you spent, you actually get tax relief on £130.
Trivial expenses If you employ people (or yourself if you run a company) then you can spend up to £50 on a non-cash gift for any employee so think birthday, anniversary etc. This must not be in recognition of work performance. A match made

Have you ever wondered what it is like to be a matchmaker? It is an industry that receives a glamorous portrayal on the big and little screen, thanks in no small part to television programmes like Married at First Sight, The Millionaire Matchmaker, Celebs Go Dating and films like Hitch, but is the depiction of elite matchmakers in line with the reality? > 72

DATING
I
n most parts, yes absolutely. Not many careers give you the chance to work with so many amazing people on a daily basis and help them to not only discover the best version of themselves but also find that perfect partner that they have been searching for.
Matchmaking is one of those careers that attracts the attention of women across the globe. Thanks to its depiction in films and television programmes worldwide, it is often seen as glamorous, quick to achieve success in and relatively simple to do – but that could not be further from the truth.
Most single people sign up to an agency, like Ignite Dating, because they have grown bored of the labour-intensive swiping and pot luck of online dating, have found that database matching isn’t quite hitting the right note or they are wanting to be more prescriptive as to what they want in a partner. And while matchmakers are not miracle workers, working with a matchmaker can go a long way to helping them find that perfect partner that is right for them.
To be a successful matchmaker you need to have strong emotional intelligence and a sixth sense when it comes to people – a skill that you are usually born with and not something that can be taught or learnt. >
Do you have what it takes to be a matchmaker? From first dates to marriages and babies, being a matchmaker allows you to be part of a couple’s love story and over the years our team have been part of so many momentous occasions in our clients’ lives. It is a job that allows you to make a huge difference to someone’s life, and even the most pragmatic of us turn into hopeless romantics when we hear the love stories and life-changing news that we have facilitated on behalf of our clients.

DATING
Matchmakers can use this intuition to quickly decide if two people are likely to work well together, saving their clients’ time, effort and awkward dates with people who are not right for them. Due to its personal touch, those that are naturally warm and engaging and could strike up a conversation and build a relationship with anybody, anywhere tend to find huge success as a matchmaker. After all, you need to build a rapport with the person that you are working with and be able to understand them as an individual as well as getting to know what they are looking for in a partner to help them achieve success in love. Sounds like you, but how do you get into matchmaking? Matchmaking is a very competitive industry to get into. If you search for matchmaking and dating agencies in the UK, you will be inundated with hundreds of results highlighting agencies of various sizes, expertise levels and clientele. The majority of which are ran by sole traders with no room for additional staff to join them – but Ignite Dating is different.
We are always on the lookout for fresh, new talent in the dating world to become a part of our team. So, if you’re engaging, enthusiastic and driven then we have a unique opportunity for you to run your own successful matchmaking business under our industry-leading brand. With the right support, guidance and proven business formula already in place, you will have all the tools that you need to successfully build and run your own lucrative matchmaking business in an ever-growing industry worth over £170 million > For an informal call to find out more, call Michelle Begy, Ignite Dating’s MD and Founder on 0333 3660640 or email franchise@ignitedating.co.uk

This summer we are finally being allowed out with less restrictions, but let us not be complacent as the Covid virus is still around.
Pride Month is usually June, however if you look throughout the country, and even the world, every month there is a Pride. A lot of people ask why we have Pride and the simple answer is - we need them, all of them!
Have fun, bask in the glow of the summer sun and make sure to support and stand with PRIDE
e are heading for summer 2021, the easing of lockdown and I am so happy for it! A large part of my life is performing and I can finally get back to it at last... and that's not all... we also have Pride month!
As for me, my schedule is full of various events, so please do make sure you come to one of my venues and check out the wonderful events that I host and are part of.
Only the other day I read about an Iranian man named Alireza FazeliMonfared who was murdered by his own family for being gay. He was only 2 days away from moving from Iran to a European country to live without persecution. Sadly, this story is not uncommon. This is why Prides are so crucial; it is a way of celebrating who you are as a person but also showing other countries and cities that their people need the same rights as we do. There are many exciting events happening this summer - make sure you go and support as many as you can, especially those that are at local venues, supporting local talents. This includes the wonderful amateur societies who have been rehearsing on zoom so that the people of Peterborough and surrounding areas can enjoy live theatre again.

How to start your day right by Georgette Louis
Y
our morning usually sets you and your mood up for the rest of the day. If you're working from home at the minute and you’re not waking up and starting the day ready to smash your goals, then you need our awesome little guide! Let’s get up, get going and get productive! The number one secret to a happy morning starts the night before. The biggest secret to waking up easier is getting a good night’s sleep! To make sure you’re getting your 6-8 hours, try banning phones, TVs and tablets etc in the hour before you intend to go to bed. They can overstimulate your brain and make it hard to switch off and get a good night’s sleep. Why not read a book or have a relaxing bath instead? Stop hitting snooze… those ‘just 10 more minutes’ moments are actually making it harder for you to wake up. Instead of giving you those extra minutes that you think would make waking easier, they actually reset your sleep cycle and confuse your body (here’s the science). To put a stop to your snoozing habits try putting your alarm out of reach so that you have to get yourself out of bed to turn it off, that way you’re less likely to try and sneak in those extra few minutes 86
QueenBee magazine
of shut-eye. To really get yourself going why not try kick starting your running? Get hydrated… It’s basically a wake-up call for your insides, getting them ready and working with you in the morning. Turn up the tunes… find a playlist that puts you in a great mood, it doesn’t matter what genre - turn it up (and send my apologies to your neighbours!). Not only does this help boost your mood, but it might help you zone out from any distractions that might hinder your productivity. Plan a delicious breakfast… nothing gets us out of bed quicker than the thought of cooking up something exciting in the morning. Keeping yourself fuller for longer also helps to reduce those annoying little cravings that make you reach for the biscuit tin! Feel grateful… if you start your day feeling down about certain things in your life; whether it’s a stressful time at work, or you just can’t seem to shift that last pound to hit your weight loss target, practising gratitude can help clear your mind of negative thoughts! When you wake up, try listing three things you’re grateful for? Let’s Glow! Glow issue 2021

ADVICE
Q: Every day I feel like I have too much to do and too little time to do it. My wellbeing is suffering because my self-care is always at the bottom of the list – I feel constantly stressed and lethargic - I need to turn things around! A: It sounds like everywhere you look,
you see work to do; the dog needs walking, the dishwasher unloading, the dinner cooking and your work report needs finishing and once that’s done you need to make the bed, fill the fridge and sort out the car insurance… modern day pressures of having and doing it all can mean your precious self-care gets continually bumped off the list. The rebel in me wants to advise you to pack your bags and find a beach to sit on with a Rum Punch – but we all know running away never really solves anything. Many of us have an all-ornothing mindset when it comes to self-care because it’s been built up by the wellness industry as a luxurious spa weekend or an overpriced candle for the bath; we just don’t feel we have the time or money for such things and so write it off all together.
Your job is to give yourself permission to take the time you need for yourself - you can’t pour from an empty cup 89
QueenBee magazine
In reality, self-care is about small and consistent actions which are so manageable you’d be hard pushed to resist them. Just because you can’t take the spa weekend, doesn’t mean you can’t take the 15-minute walk to be outdoors in nature. Setting yourself some small daily goals which will be easy to manage will soon help to form new habits of doing things to help you out and make you feel better. When I say easy to manage, I mean… getting your cereal bowl out and preparing your lunch the evening before, waking up to your favourite song and using the time to stretch your body, getting up for a 5 minute walk every hour for some air or even getting out of bed when your alarm sounds instead of hitting the snooze. What would yours be? Some small segments of time throughout the day which are non-negotiable; a time to pause, reflect, an action to make you feel prepared or give you some endorphins? It’s impossible to do it all and to please everyone along the way and ultimately, that’s not your job. Your job is to give yourself permission to take the time you need for yourself – after all you can’t pour from an empty cup > Send Emma your question: hello@emmahumphreycoaching.com www.emmahumphreycoaching.com

aving recently given birth to my second son I’m beginning to feel a little bit more like ‘me’ again and on these ‘good’ days where I manage to get showered, wash my hair (or at least brush it) and put make up on, I start to feel that ‘glow’ of motherhood. When it comes to babies it’s common to hear of the ‘pregnancy glow’ where everyone compliments you on your blooming bump and the happiness on your face of the excitement of becoming a mum (or relief the end of a long pregnancy is in sight). But there’s that special type of glow you only see on a new mum’s face. It’s a mixture of complete exhaustion and relief that a gruelling pregnancy and labour are over and baby has arrived safely giving you a completely full heart. It goes without saying that not every new mum has the same experiences and of course becoming a mum can also co-exist with difficulties, sadness and unimaginable heartache. But whether it be for a few brief seconds or an entire lifetime ‘mum glow’ is a real thing.

Being a mum to a new-born and a toddler is no walk in the park, in fact the day to day challenges have been so much more demanding than I imagined. The sleepless nights, the constant feeding, the toddler constantly pushing boundaries not to mention potty training! However there are moments everyday (some shorter than others) when I just feel that ‘glow’. The warm feeling of a full heart and the magic of having brought new life into the world alongside each captivating milestone. It’s a special type of glow that builds from within and radiates in the most beautiful way. Now, combine all that with a fabulous tan (be it real or fake) and the perfect make up highlighter of course and your ‘glow’ transcends to the next level. So now that summer is around the corner and life is finally beginning to get back to normal, let’s remember to take a moment to be grateful for the little things, love the ones we hold dear to our hearts and radiate that glow from the inside out. Add in that favourite cheekbone highlighter and you are good to go…so let’s get out there and start living the lives we’ve all been dreaming of for the past year
