WELCOME HEALTH
Welcome to the Winter 'Chilled' issue 2020
T
ake a deep breath... 2020 is almost over! Unless you’ve been lucky enough to be living under a rock, you’d know that 2020 hasn’t exactly been the greatest year. For many of us, it's been incredibly challenging and life-changing. But with every glass half empty there’s a glass half full and as this bizarre year comes to an end, I wanted to recap on the good things that it has brought us and the new things we have learned. Firstly, wearing joggers and loungewear became acceptable fashion choices all day, every day, as lockdown gave many of us the opportunity to work from home; elasticated waistbands and comfy bras became the norm. We learnt how to use Zoom and other technologies to stay connected, proving you don't need to spend time travelling to chat with your work colleagues, friends or accountant. Many people used lockdown to learn a brand new skill or to change career (let's not forget QueenBee Talks podcast that I launched after years of procrastination!). We spent more time outside this year, we walked more and visited parts of the country we might not have done previously; the UK road trip is back!

Drive-in movie theatres made a comeback and who knew that drive-in concerts would ever be a thing?! Restaurants and famous chefs shared their secret recipes so we could make them at home... and yeh, we might have gained a few pounds, but we rediscovered our love for hobbies like baking, growing our own veggies and gardening. We learned that homeschooling is HARD and recognised teachers for the heroes that they are, along with health care and essential workers. Despite 2020 presenting some unforeseen challenges, it has also given us an opportunity to slow down, pause and realise what really matters: health, friends, family, freedom, the importance of support local businesses and the well-being and safety of our communities. I hope you enjoy this 'Chilled' issue of QueenBee. As usual, there's plenty of inspiring articles and motivating advice from some tremendous women. I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and New Year - QueenBee will be back in Spring 2021 here's hoping for a healthier, happier year

CityFibre’s guide to digital learning tools As we enter another month of social distancing, it’s safe to say that most of us are still adjusting to the new normal that is everyday life. LEARNING
E
very day, residents across Peterborough log on to access workplace systems, join conference calls, stream lessons or access videos and games. As you might expect, this is placing huge demand on the nation’s broadband infrastructure, which is why CityFibre is working hard to progress its roll out in Peterborough and provide citywide access to reliable, high speed, high capacity digital connectivity. With full fibre access, communities can benefit from a platform for growth – one that drives productivity and innovation, breaks down digital divides and unlocks services for all, like e-learning, for instance. Home working and educating can be challenging, but with the right tools, it can contribute towards increased efficiency, improved work life balance and better outcomes. Here are five digital services that are helping families home-school during these challenging times:
teachers and easily share materials, allowing teachers to spend more time on teaching their students. 2. Google Classroom Google has teamed up with educators across the country to create ‘Classroom’, a streamlined platform which offers a number of key useful features to teachers and students where anybody can sign in from any computer or mobile device to access class assignments, course materials, and feedback. Following this, practitioners can track the progress of their students so they know where and how to give extra feedback. With simplified workflows, there is more time for teachers to concentrate on giving students constructive, personalized recommendations. Most importantly, it is also totally free to use and set up! 3. EdPlus Kids
1. itslearning The itslearning platform allows education professionals to personalise learning by collating curriculum resources, instructional strategies, objective-based lesson plans and assessments, and real-time reporting all in one easy-to-access central location. In addition, the system provides many different opportunities to develop interactive/engaging lessons as well as offering different paths for students to collaborate with their QueenBee magazine
Fairly new to app stores, EdPlus Kids has been developed by an Oxford University Spinout with the aim of making out-of-school learning easier for parents and more fun for learners. Specialising in maths, it also offers study subjects in a range of subjects including science, English and other foreign languages. What’s more, it keeps learners motivated by allowing them to unlock games as a reward as they complete tasks. > Chilled issue 2020

LEARNING
Parents and guardians can also keep an eye on progress by receiving notifications when milestones are achieved. 4. Reading Eggs Reading Eggs is built around the school curriculum and provides an excellent source of resources and strategies that make learning to read both rewarding and fun. The programme was developed by an experienced team of teachers, educational writers, animators and web developers, so you can be sure that it offers a quality learning experience for young learners. 5. Masterclass Masterclass is an online streaming website where subscribers can learn and participate in workshops taught by the world’s leading professionals. The site includes online masterclasses in sports, cooking, business and much more held by individuals such as Gordan Ramsay, Serena Williams, Jodie Foster and Chris Voss.
Construction to build Peterborough’s full fibre network has begun and, once complete, almost every home and business in the local area will be able to access gigabit capable services over full fibre. Our networks, however, are about more than just bringing gigabit broadband services to residents. We also serve thousands of critical healthcare, education and community sites too, including hospitals, GP surgeries, community buildings, schools and council offices. As key workers, CityFibre has been asked by the UK Government to continue to expand the nation’s digital capacity. All contractors are being urged to follow the social distancing protocols as outlined by Public Health England to ensure our build partner’s safety > For more information about our Gigabit City Programme and our response to the COVID-19 outbreak, visit www.cityfibre.com
These are just a few examples, but there’s plenty of quality resources and applications out there, all designed to help learners, whatever their age, stay focused and develop their knowledge and skills. CityFibre is working to roll out full fibre to up to 8 million homes across the UK, ensuring that even more of the population has access to the high-speed, high-capacity internet that lets us enjoy these fantastic resources without the lag so many of us have grown used to.

Sings!
I
The traditional image of the male voice choir - think walking sticks, blazers, committees, teas - is one which persists even though, very slowly, change is coming.
t’s an image which certainly doesn’t have much kerb appeal and one which choral conductor William Prideaux was determined to change when he was appointed director of Peterborough Male Voice Choir back in 2010. But even he could never have predicted that within a decade there would be a majority of women on the board of trustees of this fine old Peterborough institution! Following Prideaux’s arrival, in 2011, Peterborough Male Voice Choir founded the unique music education

charity Peterborough Sings! as well as women’s choir Peterborough Voices and Peterborough Youth Choir, which provides free-to-all singing tuition to children aged 7 plus. Since then, through the choirs and an extensive and ambitious programme of outreach work to promote singing in the local community, the charity has introduced literally thousands of local people to the joys of group singing and the many well-documented benefits it brings, both musical and otherwise. The women of Peterborough Voices are a force to be reckoned with. They’re not just members of a choir, they’re stakeholders, they’re invested, they’re a family, a tribe, and their determination to succeed at everything they do is awesome!” Founded in 1935 by workers from Peterborough’s old sugar beet factory, for many years and through many incarnations Peterborough did fit the stereotype of the traditional male voice choir. In the ten years since his arrival Prideaux has swept away the last vestiges of bureaucracy and driven the appointment of a dynamic, invested, engaged board of trustees passionately committed to developing the important work of the charity. And for the first time – in 2020 – there are more women than men appointed – something absolutely unthinkable in many similar outfits and the embodiment of the far-reaching, forward-thinking changes Prideaux has brought.

“Women are often underrepresented in positions of strategic importance, and for this reason I’m delighted that we now have a majority female trusteeship” says Anna Welsford, “I'm excited to be in a position to help shape the music education opportunities we can offer Peterborough, and I would really like to see as many people from as many different walks of life as possible getting involved with the great work Peterborough Sings! does, from school singing days, to project choirs, or simply coming along to see a concert! Being part of Peterborough Sings! has given me so much more than I ever imagined; I have increased confidence to deal with life’s challenges, and knowing I have an amazing support network within the charity and it's choirs is something I couldn’t imagine living without.” “Music has always been an important part of my life but in joining Peterborough Voices I discovered the joy and exhilaration of collective singing and the power of women’s voices and >

I'm sure it has improved my brain!” says Gill Hall, “I feel privileged to be a trustee of Peterborough Sings! and be part of an organisation that enables people of all ages and all sections of the community to participate in music activities and events. Getting more people singing and seeing the enjoyment it brings is so rewarding”. “I am incredibly proud to be a part of the Peterborough Sings! family - the challenge, enjoyment, camaraderie and sense of achievement within the choirs has brought me so much happiness and pride!” says Bridget Pengelly, “I hope my role as a trustee will give me the opportunity to help promote and 18

showcase our talents to audiences near and far, and to encourage more people across our city and beyond to find their singing voice - Peterborough Sings! gives people of all ages the opportunity to come together to create something magical. Singing builds self-confidence, promotes self-esteem and social inclusion. We live in a time when we need to feel these things more than ever.” William Prideaux observes “the women of Peterborough Voices are a force to be reckoned with. stakeholders, they’re invested, they’re a family, a tribe, and their determination to succeed at everything they do is awesome! Most of them have very little previous singing experience – we are, and will remain, a community choir – yet they perform at the highest level and have an extremely impressive record of competition wins. Lockdown hasn’t stopped them – quite the opposite, they have more than risen to the challenges of the last few months and improved their skills even further.” “If they bring this fight and determination to their trustee roles, I’m very excited to see what our QueenBee magazine
organisation can achieve moving forward. They are evangelists inspired by an experience they are passionate to share! Each with responsibility for a particular area of development, they will work as a team to further the charitable aims of Peterborough Sings! to make singing accessible to everyone regardless of cultural, social or economic background, and to think creatively about the challenges the future brings. And if there was ever a time for thinking creatively, it’s certainly now!” > Visit peterboroughsings.org.uk Chilled issue 2020

Five Top tips for lower back pain By Nazleen Reed, Ultimate Performance Lifestyle Ltd

The spine is stronger than you think it loves to move and in fact movement is the key. Bed rest for back pain is dated and will not be something we or your doctor would recommend. It is Important to look after your back and not panic if you get a twinge. As a Physiotherapist it is our job to educate our patient on their condition and how they can manage it themselves. I have 5 top tips you can refer to: 1. Keep Active. The spine is designed to move, therefore movement is crucial. Movement within the spine promotes healthy discs and healthy joints. 2. Functional movement exercises can be achieved in Pilates & Yoga. These exercises teach the body to move in a natural way where you will improve the spine flexibility, strength, balance, and coordination. 3. Get good quality sleep. Aiming for 7.5-8 hours’ sleep reduces stress and improves overall feeling of wellbeing.
4. Avoid Sitting for longer than one hour at a time. Sitting causes compression of the spine and lack of movement. 5. Do not fear bending. Quite often bending and lifting is associated with back injuries and pain, however this form of exercise does not age the spine, it makes it stronger > If you would like to know more about your back pain, we are giving a FREE 15-minute telephone consultation to all QueenBee readers. as your partner fessed up and told you that they have been having an affair? Are you now faced with a dilemma? Should you forgive, learn to trust them again and continue with the relationship? Betrayal rocks the very heart of a relationship. The deceit and lies are hard to bear. Infidelity calls everything into question and steals the foundations of what you thought was solid in the relationship; the capacity to love, trust and have faith in our judgement. We feel safe and secure with our partner, we believe in who we are and what we believe we had. How does one move on and recover from the pain of disloyalty? Only you can make that decision. Do you let your heart rule your head, or your head rule your heart? If the perpetrator displays remorse, realises that they have made a tremendous mistake and wants to make the marriage work and you do too, then I recommend the following steps. The questions will start with Why, Who, What, When, Where, How? Communication is key to being able to move forward and repair the wall that has fallen down around you. It can be a turning point at which you decide to grow separately and together, reconnect in a way that is stronger and tenable. It will take a lot of commitment and complete honesty from both of you. QueenBee magazine
Give yourself the time and space to assimilate what has occurred. Request that your partner respectfully stays somewhere else temporarily to give you the opportunity to reflect. Pride and stoicism may prevent you from talking to family or friends, however this won’t help in the long run. Open up to someone you trust otherwise it’s a heavy load to carry on your own. Internalising our feelings can also have a detrimental effect on our health and by suppressing these feelings they are only going to come out at a later date. Speak to a Divorce Coach to help you to cope with the minefield of emotions. Avoid burying your head in the sand face your fears. Remember that you are a person in your own right and fully deserving of a relationship which fulfils your needs as well as your partner’s. A successful relationship is where partners have a mutual respect for each other and where neither party take the other for granted > Call Paula for an initial, free 20 minute consultation. Cosy up in a practical & stylish jumper dress
S
By Michelle Abbott @maison_abbott
o, the heating is officially on, the logs are stocked up for those cosy evening fires and throws for snuggling up on the sofa are piled high. What do we need to wear now? A jumper dress is definitely on my list. Versatile and easy to style, high on the comfort ranking, and always just the right amount of sass.
Right now, with things as they are, we need more than comfort from our clothes, we need to feel comforted. A jumper dress is an alternative option to loungewear - statement relaxed dressing. There are a few simple rules to finding the perfect piece and there are lots of great options at all price points around this season. • Look for a decent amount of wool in the fabric. There should be some weight to the garment, anything too flimsy or thin will not flatter. If need be, size up for a more relaxed fit. • Go for minimal details - a roll or high neck or a classic crew style works best. • I favour neutrals - grey, black, camel or warm berry tones are universally timeless • A just below knee length or longer is the most versatile. You can wear with anything from knee boots to trainers and add opaque tights or leggings for extra warmth. >

Chilled issue 2020
FASHION HEALTH
So, once you know what to look for, how are you going to style it? I’d start with footwear. If you can brave a bare leg, wear trainers until you need to cover up. This is such a cool, on-trend way to style your dress. Throw on a cross body bag for laid back luxe. A knee high boot looks fabulous with a jumper dress, or try opaque tights with ankle boots. I love a pair of leather leggings underneath - try this with your trainers or ankle boots and leave a slither of skin showing between the legging and your footwear. To add another layer, try a flowy trench coat over your dress - make sure it’s the same length or longer than the dress (a classic long overcoat works well). If you favour a more casual look, add your leather biker jacket to the leggings and trainers outfit and you have the boxes ticked. Finally, if this all feels simply too hard - just throw on your dress, add some woolly socks and hit the Netflix button (popcorn optional)

Peterborough Sings! Virtual Big Sing!
C
hildren aged 7-11 are invited to be part of the Peterborough Sings! Christmas “Virtual Big Sing!”
With most children missing out on singing in school at the moment, this is a fantastic chance for primary-age kids to have some festive fun! ALL children aged 7-11 can get involved completely free of charge, all they need to do to be part of the Peterborough Christmas Virtual Choir is learn the song 'Jingle Bells', video themselves performing it and submit their entry by Monday December 14th…it’s going to be epic! Plus, there’s a chance to win a Yamaha PSR-EW300 (or similar) keyboard, a fantastic prize for budding musicians, which will be awarded for the best entry as judged by Peterborough Sings!’ director Will Prideaux. The virtual choir project is part of the ambitious Arts Council England-funded Peterborough singing strategy being delivered by Peterborough Sings! on behalf of Peterborough Music Hub and Peterborough City Council and has been organised instead of the popular schools’ singing days which normally take place twice annually at the Cresset.

With thousands of participants to far, these are themed to a particular musical genre - Abba, Beatles, West End – and have been fantastically well received by schools, teachers, parents and children from across the city and beyond. Will Prideaux, director of Peterborough Sings, says “COVID19 and lockdown has been a real challenge for us and for choirs across the world, but there’s no question of just stopping, music and singing are just as important now as they always have been – if not more so, with their proven benefits to physical and mental health – we’ve had to think creatively about ways to keep singing even though physical rehearsals aren’t possible at the moment. We’ve moved a lot of our work online very successfully during lockdown and the virtual choir is a fun, safe, way to get kids involved and engaged with singing. We’re really excited to be able to provide this opportunity and we’re confident it will be a great success…please spread the word! s we turn the heating on, cosy up under blankets and drink hot chocolate with lashings of cream and marshmallows, it doesn’t matter about going for that extra portion of stew and dumplings - we are all putting on that winter blubber to keep us nice and toastie! Autumn and Winter have some of my favourite holidays including Halloween, Bonfire Night, Christmas and of course New Years Eve. This year we will be looking at a very different holiday season as Covid 19 is still gripping the country; it is odd to sit here and think about how in March we all thought this was going to be over by September at the latest, now it could be another 12 to 18 months before we are allowed to mix like we used to.
booking. Peterborough Cathedral will be holding a Christmas market too although there will be no light switch on this year - it will be done virtually for safety reasons, which is understandable. Lastly I would like to leave you with this we have seen some incredible ingenuity and invention come from this period and I think that will only grow. However, we have also seen missing family members at the dinner table and the loss of so many jobs, nationally and globally,. Now is not the time to think of yourself, but of others, especially as the cold nights come in. So please, I implore you to wear a mask when asked if you can. Wash Your Hands, Wear Your Mask, Keep 2 Metres Apart – Stay Safe Much love as always
So, what will the holiday season look like this winter? Well, locally there has been a great swell of home events; pumpkin picking, Halloween parties and bonfire night celebrations in gardens or front rooms. However, there are still many events going ahead in and around Peterborough venues. The Cresset has a Winter theatre schedule that looks incredible and is all socially distanced, including P.O.D.S. Vicar of Dibley and Unmasked musical concert - please contact The Cresset for booking. The Iron Horse Ranch House in Market Deeping has a full Winter schedule of lively events with bands, quizzes, tuck shops, food markets, Christmas markets and a certain someone doing a Christmas extravaganza! The Feelgood Factor By Kai of P’kai Hair
As I write this, my feet are just about touching the ground after learning that I am a finalist in this years prestigious British Hairdressing awards! It is such an honour and an amazing feel good factor which is most welcome during these strange times.
T
his got me thinking about what we offer as hairdressers. On a day to day basis we make people look great and feel amazing. Are you due a visit to your salon of choice? When the salons open again, why not ask your stylist about a relaxing treatment for your hair or scalp along with a soothing head massage? It could be that “pick me up” you need when this lockdown ends. A treatment mask can add more shine and vitality to your hair than a regular conditioner. Whilst we’re thinking of a pick me up, what about a slight change of style or colour? Changes don’t always need to be to be life changing
58

but just a little enhancing is often enough to put a spring in your step! One great way to start thinking or visualising change is to put a Pinterest board together and share this with your hair stylist. We love images, they are a great way of expressing your likes and dislikes. Whatever style you choose to go for, just enjoy the experience, relax and enjoy some interaction time with your hairdresser. You’ll hopefully come out looking and feeling amazing. Five Tips for a Winter Home Transformation By Conchi The Home Coach
The tell-tale signs are all there: the dark mornings when you can’t get out of bed, your central heating stirring into life every evening, leaves spiralling down onto your lawn in the wind (and rain), all point to one thing - Winter is just around the corner! ut this is no normal year and as the season approaches, covid-19 just places more and more obstacles in our way, preventing us from finding ways of beating the Winter blues. No holidays in hot countries, no parties, no pubs, (if you’ve actually still got the money to even think about things like that!). Not even the prospect of Christmas, a time for socialising, a chink of light, offers much comfort. The memories of “Christmas past” come flooding back: lunches out with work colleagues, family shopping sprees in brightly-lit cities, the family round the table for turkey. Except, this year, things are going to be different! If you’re working from home, you might not have seen your work colleagues in person for several weeks, maybe even months, and if you’re lucky the largest gathering you’ll be able to host at home this Christmas will be six people! This Winter looks like we are going to spend most of our time at home as opportunities for socialising and visits to friends and relatives are going to be few and far-between.
Five tips to create your winter space... This Winter doesn’t have to be all doom and gloom! There are still lots of ways to beat the blues, keep Christmas merry and give ourselves the annual dose of the yuletide

comfort we all crave. As many of us are forced to spend more and more time at home, it makes sense to do everything we can to create a cosy, comfortable space that makes us happy and accomplished.
1. Think! Start by identifying the spaces you want to spend time in. Where do you want to feel cosy on those long Winter evenings?
2. A vital step! Create order and space in those areas. Remove clutter, organise toys, books, documents, make sure you have a system in place to stop clutter building around you again.
3. Be bold! Try moving some pieces of furniture into different rooms, this may lead to a new room layout, but this is the exciting part. A new room! Also introduce objects to give them a new purpose and life.
4. A bit of shopping! Spend the money you save on not going out on trendy accessories to a quick revamp of your cosy spaces. New lamps, cushions, throws on sofas, plants can all help to transform rooms instantly
5. Be creative! Regenerate old pictures, including photos, posters, different types of artwork. Reframing them can give them a new lease of life and change the atmosphere in a room. Also try clustering them into a single wall gallery to create a bespoke feature. >

If you find your mood tends to drop during this time of the year, it may be helpful to spend as much time as you can exposed to natural daylight and around the people you love. This may take more motivation than usual so it can be useful to schedule in some plans to meet friends or loved ones once a week.
For many this time of year can be very triggering for people for many reasons. Reaching out for support professionally or to people you know can be extremely helpful > If you would need further support please check out my page for some free advice on @becomeyour.bestself - alternatively you can email me on becomeyourbestself19@gmail.com
Relaxing may be more challenging than usual with lots of pressure and expectations with the lead up to Christmas, which can pose additional stress for many. Remember those feelings are normal and you are not alone with them. Below are some tips you can focus on throughout this period to give you a sense of calm. Noticing the change in seasons and appreciating the present moment can help bring a sense of calm. You can do this by using all of your senses to appreciate the hear and now. Maybe your on the way to work, or on the school run and you can ask yourself what you can feel? It could be the brisk fresh air on your face, your warm, soft jacket on your body. Maybe you can hear the birds and the leafs crunching beneath your feet. We often hold a lot stress within our bodies without realising, try right now to drop your shoulders, unclench your jaw and drop your tongue from the roof of your mouth.

MOTHERHOOD HEALTH
To chill or not to chill... Being Me, Being Mum. Ups, downs, trying and getting there… By Bianca Liguori

MOTHERHOOD HEALTH
It’s a fairly typical scenario. A day off work and a decision to make... to chill or not to chill. There is always a neverending list of things to do, daily chores to keep the house looking half presentable, shopping to keep on top of, along with the guilt of planning something meaningful and fun for my toddler.
T
hen there is the long list of jobs that never actually get done, the room I wanted to sort out months ago, endless life admin paperwork and those deep clean jobs that get moved from month to month. Not forgetting the work I need to catch up on and emails to reply to. Prioritising is something I often don’t succeed in. There just aren’t enough hours in the day and definitely not enough energy to ever complete a ‘to do’ list. There is one very important thing that is missed off that endless list of jobs. Self-care and time to rest, chill and recuperate. As a mum it’s usually the last thing on the list and the thing that never gets to be ticked off! So here’s the dilemma. When do I get to chill? When is there time for me? When can I re-stock my energy levels and make sure I can give my all on the other days? There are days when chilling isn’t so much needed but essential to my wellbeing and then other days QueenBee magazine
when feeling the achievement of being productive gives me a much better boost to my happiness. Striking the perfect balance is not only difficult to achieve, it’s ever changing. It’s important to take a minute to check in with yourself regularly and notice what your energy levels are like. Doing this helps me to plan efficiently and make sure I make the most of my days off. Planning to be either productive or restful when needed, balancing the two to keep a happy, positive mindset. It’s all too easy to plan in too much in a day but learning to plan better can make all the difference. With the busy Christmas period imminent, it’s even more important than ever to prioritise - make sure that includes time to chill and enjoy a bit of self-care. Whether that be on the sofa watching yet another Christmas film, in the bath with a good book or spending quality time with loved ones > Read more of Bianca's blogs at being-mum.com Chilled issue 2020

K
eeping your home heated and in tip top condition doesn’t have to be expensive or a labour intensive ordeal. These simple tasks will ensure longevity of your heating system coupled with a good service. Bleed your radiators This ensures all the air is removed from the radiator & water within your system is running freely.
Insulate Make sure your loft space is adequately insulated by installing 25cm of loft roll. Homecare by Attica offer an interactive booking service online for your plumbing, heating and electrical tasks, with a fixed fee and date. It’s a fluid and easy service > Visit atticahomecare.co.uk
Top up your pressure If you have an unvented heating system or combination boiler, ensure it is working at the appropriate pressure (following your manufacturer’s guidelines). Use your timer Try to set your heating to turn on 30 minutes before you get up but at a lower temperature, to avoid the boiler working harder at a higher temperature for a shorter time. Turn down the dial Ideally keep your house at a cosy 18c. Save money and avoid a cold home. Move furniture Move your furniture away from the radiators to help warm air move freely.

ADVICE
Q: It’s only November and I already feel like hibernating for the foreseeable future. How can I keep myself feeling well throughout winter and not wanting to spend the whole time in bed? A: You’re not alone in feeling like a
little bear cub wanting to bed down in a dark cave full of snacks and blankets for the winter months. There really is something about the changing seasons; the colder temperatures and less sunlight that make things feel a bit more difficult than usual. Unlike other living creatures who can follow the pattern of the sun and sleep when they like, us humans have responsibilities, families, and jobs which means snuggling down for the night at 4:30pm isn’t easy. First things first, I think it’s important to accept that our productivity levels are likely to change through this season. If you feel less productive than normal, accept that it’s okay. Being hard on yourself that you’re not keeping up with your usual morning jogs won’t help you to feel any better.
Sunlight this time of year can be hard to come by so try and take every opportunity to get outside for some fresh air. QueenBee magazine
That said, still making sure you’re getting outside and moving each day, even for just a 15-minute walk can really benefit you in keeping you well through winter. Sunlight this time of year can be hard to come by so try and take every opportunity to get outside for some fresh air. If you feel like the lack of sunlight is having an impact on your mood, you can also try some light therapy, by investing in a SAD lamp. The NHS also recommend a daily vitamin D supplement, particularly during the winter when we’re spending more time indoors. Trying to maintain a regular sleep pattern is also useful; just like having too little sleep can impact your wellbeing, hiding under the duvet for too long can also have a negative impact on your sense of wellbeing. Perhaps setting some ‘non-negotiables’ to do each day help to feel on top of things could also be an idea. Have a think about what yours might look like? 10 minutes of yoga? Two house chores? Catching up with a friend? It’s okay to feel like a little bear cub so try not to overwhelm yourself with wanting to do all the same stuff you do during the summer months but if you’re feeling out of sorts, do speak to your GP or a health professional about your winter wellness > Send Emma your question: hello@emmahumphreycoaching.com www.emmahumphreycoaching.com

FINANCES
2020 has been a year of challenge and change, but it’s not been all bad! Let’s look back on all the good things that have happened with all thing’s money-related. • Interest rates at an all-time low meaning those with variable or tracker rate mortgages have seen cheaper monthly repayments. • Rishi Sunak delivered “unprecedented” government grants to small businesses - a quick recap includes the two furlough schemes, various business rates grants for those who have business premises, three self-employment grants as well as capital grants to help small businesses survive the pandemic. • Borrowing is at an all time low for small businesses with the introduction of the Bounce-back loan which was interest-free for 12 months with no repayments for 12 months meaning that you can use that to consolidate more expensive business debt and save yourself £££s.
through to January 2021 (and potentially to March 2021). There are interest free payment plans to help with the deferred VAT payments for small businesses too, which all help towards cashflow, plus the tax man has offered monthly payment plans to all those who owe income tax payments in January 2021* > If you are not sure whether you are taking full advantage of any of the above schemes in place, we encourage you to talk to your accountant or give LeeP a call to join us!
