WELCOME

Welcome to the Summer 'Change' issue 2020

W

hen thinking of the name for this issue of QueenBee, ‘change’ seemed to be the obvious choice. What a time of change it’s been for all us in so many different ways. Some good, some bad and some truly awful. When smiles have been replaced by masks, phrases like ‘social distancing’, ‘furlough’ and the ‘2 metre rule’ have become everyday phrases while handshakes and hugs totally off limits. Isn't it amazing how quickly we have adapted to this new and strange world? From Zooming clients and home schooling to neighbourhood WhatsApp groups and netflix binging, over the last three months, digital platforms have become the only way for many of us to work, get fit or be educated and entertained. Could the world change for the better after coronavirus? As awful as this pandemic has been for many people, it could bring lasting positive changes too. While the world was in lockdown, climate change and emissions saw their biggest drop since world war two.

4

QueenBee magazine

The rise of online meetings has shown what can be achieved without travel do we really need large city offices with staff relying on crowded public transport or sitting in traffic every day? As the earth began to breath and heal with cleaner air, clearer oceans, liberated wildlife and tranquil roads, lockdown seemed to offer a sense of how a greener world might feel. And as lockdown starts to ease who knows what will happen next? Let's hope that once the hardship of this situation is behind us, we will reap the benefits of some of the new habits we've formed, whether it's shopping local more, helping out your elderly neighbours or baking our own bread. I hope you enjoy this issue of QueenBee - we've dotted some positive messages throughout the pages to help inspire and motivate you to stay positive.

Time for some T-L-CBD Have you heard about CBD yet? From celebrity endorsements to inquisitive posters in shop windows, we take a quick look at what this mystery compound is and whether or not it can actually help you...

6

QueenBee magazine

Change issue 2020

HEALTH

What is CBD? Let’s get scientific for just a second. CBD is short for cannabidiol, and is an active ingredient found in cannabis that’s derived from hemp.

So it’s illegal? Nope! CBD is a legal ingredient because it’s been extracted away from its illegal counterpart,THC (that’s the bit that gets you high and has psychoactive properties).

What can CBD help me with? Without THC, CBD is a wonder and can help with so many things including anxiety, depression, acne, inflammation, sleeping better and heart disease. A simple Google search of success stories can show you even more.

I’ve tried to research this before, but I don’t get answers… Unfortunately, companies that sell CBD products are not legally allowed to talk of its medical benefits because the FDA currently lists CBD as a ‘novel food’ and not ‘medicine’. There is ongoing research to try and change this.

How can I ‘take’ CBD? For beginners, we recommend introducing yourself to CBD oil first. It’s the easiest to obtain and versatile. You can place a few drops under your tongue or on your skin, add it to your moisturiser, or even add a few drops in your morning smoothie. QueenBee magazine

Revamped! By Louisa Parr

A

visit to the city’s recycling centre always fills me with great angst, simply by witnessing the sheer volume of decent, sturdy items that could easily be reused or re-purposed again, being thrown into giant skips awaiting landfill. It seems such a crying shame, is so detrimental to the environment and it irks me greatly. I’ve always been an avid fan of anything vintage, from fabrics and clothing to furniture. I've taken the most sorrowful of items and turned them into quirky, reusable pieces. If you're into the 18

upcycled or re-purposed look, the sky’s the limit and what’s great about each finished piece is that it's completely unique. So, I decided that my lounge was looking rather tired and tatty and that the Covid-19 lockdown was the ideal time to get stuck in. My goal was to revamp the room and give it a completely different look. Everything I needed was sourced either via the internet or gifted by friends who’d leave items in my back garden for me to ‘Louisa-ize'. I had several editions > Change issue 2020

of ‘TIME' magazine from the States, lush fabrics from France and British made cloth maps dating back from the early 20th century. I found the most sumptuous silk roses and peonies online from a warehouse in Somerset. But my best acquisition by far was a slightly sorry looking steamer trunk that’s over eighty years old. The friend who’d given it to me had been saying for years

that he was going to make it into a coffee table, but never did! I gave it four chunky wooden feet and a foam upholstered seat covered in a rich funky fabric. That very same trunk now sits resplendent in my lounge as a beautiful multi functional window seat and blanket box. I dyed old fabrics, made curtains and cushion covers, decorated lampshades and re-purposed old knackered suitcases into shelving. >

The overall theme has an eclectic, eccentric look about it, which isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but I am really pleased with the outcome and didn’t spend a fortune either. So maybe the next time you go to throw something away or take it to the tip, perhaps you could have a rethink and try a little upcycling instead? If not, I'm sure you know someone who would! Remember the old saying ”what’s one man’s trash, is another man’s treasure”

ntroducing DUVET HOG: the new ‘must have’ duvet made from plastic water bottles! New British brand DUVET HOG is set to shake up the market, having made duvets simultaneously sustainable & sexy… no mean feat but they’ve nailed it! Cruelty-free, earth friendly and made from recycled water bottles, the brand has bags of eco credentials. What’s more they’re also super fluffy, cloudsoft and ultrabreathable so your comfort levels will soar, not suffer! Each duvet uses a whopping 50-100 recycled PET plastic water bottles which are expertly spun like candyfloss into miniscule silky-soft fibres, 7 times finer than a single eyelash! And if it you thought it couldn’t get any better, think again as all of their vegan-down duvets are allergy-safe, chemical free & made in their zero waste eco factory, which is powered on 100% renewable energy! DUVET HOG currently offers three duvets: ‘Winter Warm’, ‘Summer Warm’ & ‘All Year Round’, catering to all seasons & tog preferences.

“We wanted to bring the duvet industry in to the 21st century by making them earth-friendly, vegan & sustainable. That’s why we use recycled water bottles, of which there is currently no shortage! We also know that it’s time-consuming & an added expense to take duvets to the dry cleaners, with many choosing to bin them & buy a cheap replacement. That’s why we made all our duvets 100% washable & the sumptuous, snugly filling stays cosy, wash after wash so our duvets have a longer lifespan.”- Phillippa Barraclough, Founder of Duvet Hog Throughout July and August 2020 DUVET HOG are offering QueenBee readers 15% off your first order when you use code QUEENBEE15. Prices start from £50 (with a 30-night risk-free trial + free delivery/returns in the UK!) > Visit www.duvethog.co.uk

But, we’ve saved the best to last…all duvets are also WASHABLE! Simply stick them in the washing machine & tumble dryer when they need a refresh (yes even the superking size!) which goes hand in hand with the brand’s mission: #SpinMeDontBinMe.

Your home, your kids and lockdown Learning from lockdown – my 5 decluttering rules for families By Conchi The Home Coach

O

ne important thing that we can learn from being in lockdown is the value of decluttering – that is, keeping our living spaces tidy and free from mess. There’s nothing like living in the same space for a long time to make you realise that you need to keep it clutterfree, and that keeping it tidy helps you feel more comfortable, relaxed and happier to spend time there. But keeping your living space tidy is easier said than done, so when I work with young families, I recommend five rules to help them stay clutter-free:

30

QueenBee magazine

1. Take steps to reduce clutter. Young children often receive a lot of presents and end up with toys they don’t need. They can easily forget about everything they have and just carry on playing with a few favourite toys! Try to avoid buying or receiving extra presents for the sake of it and concentrate on giving children fewer toys that they will really value.

2. Let your children play with one toy for longer. When children have an endless choice of toys to play with, they’ll end up > Change issue 2020

playing with them for a short time only. Set rules about how many toys they can play with during a given period - your children will start to find more creative ways of playing, and their toys will take on more value.

3.Make sure everything you keep has a “home”

A logical space where things can be easily put away, still within reach for children to play with them.

4. Space savers. Use fabric sacks to replace bulky toy boxes. These use up less space and are easier to store.

5. Make children responsible.

ONLINE COACHING PACKAGES

When you give them responsibility for keeping their space tidy, children feel empowered. It gives them the feeling they are in charge and that you trust them. Start by making tidying up a competition game. Following these five rules will mean that you have less tidying to do around the house and you’ll start to appreciate your living space more and feel less stressed. Giving children rules about keeping spaces tidy can also help to prevent those family “meltdowns” we are all too familiar with > Conchi’s aim is to make you fall in love with your home, to make it a happy place where you can have clarity of mind, be in control and feeling blissful. Summer

Dreaming By Michelle Abbott @maison_abbott

F

or most, if not all of us, any plans for Summer holidays have been postponed or cancelled. But that doesn’t mean that we can’t think about our wardrobes, what’s on trend this season and dressing for our staycations! The shift into Summer means we can embrace lighter fabrics, less layers, colour and pattern. So what should we wear? I’d start with a dress. To me, Summer means timeless white broiderie anglais, gingham and crisp cotton. Details are simple, although you will have noticed that square necklines and puff sleeves are everywhere this season. This is such a flattering style and suits most body shapes - just play with proportions of the sleeve and the depth of the neckline to find what suits you best. Separates work hard in your wardrobe, so think about a simple neutral midi skirt in an A line or tiered style, or a boho floral maxi and wear with a staple simple white or black vest top. The patterned trouser is a look to try. Go for floral, polka dot or geometric prints and pair with a simple white tee. If you need a cover up for cooler days or evenings, you know I recommend

32

QueenBee magazine

a denim jacket, the right one can be worn with everything you own. Try a khaki or camo shacket as an alternative. The trench is going nowhere! Find one in a lightweight weave fabric and wear open and flowing over your dresses and separates. Finish with a pair of tan or black flat sandals, wedge espadrilles or a simple white trainer. You’re all set. Enjoy your Summer knowing that these pieces will work when you can eventually get away, but for now, you will be looking good! Change issue 2020

TEDDI TALKS

LGBTQIA+ Pride & Black Lives Matter

F

By Teddi the Drag Queen. With thanks to Feyisola Akintoye.

or many people, Pride has been cancelled because of the current Covid landscape, meaning a pause on the large festivals, parades and walks of solidarity. Let me take you back 50 years to the first Pride march which was a year after the Stonewall riots. The gay liberation front, along with likeminded peers, joined forces and walked a route in New York City to show the people of America that Gay Lives Mattered. And who was there alongside them? None other than Marsha P. Johnson, a black drag queen and trans rights activist. She is considered, along with two other queens, Zazu Nova and Jackie Hormona, to be the vanguard that pushed back against police brutality in those times. Marsha campaigned for years; even up until her death in 1992, for rights for all LGBTQIA+ people.

we love without the hard work of people like Marsha P. Johnson. For anyone thinking that the BLM movement is not necessary or not needed, just think about this - have you ever been turned down for a job because of your name? The fact that parents of black children must consider what they name their child is just alien to me. A parent should be able to name their child anything they wish, without fear that later in life their child will receive hardship. We only need to see the backlash of the Black Lives movement and counter protests to see inequality within our country. So, my final message to you over this time of Pride is to educate yourself on these issues, because without ‘black lives mattering’ then all lives will never matter @teddi957 Teddi is a local drag artist with her hand and mouth firmly on the pulse. She is never one to shy away from the limelight and always has her opinions ready and raring to go!

I would not be allowed to be who I am today without her. There is a percentage of my community saying that because of the Black Lives Matter movement, pride has been cancelled - this simply is not the case. Our community would not be able to celebrate and love who 40

Post-lockdown hair At the time of writing this, we are preparing to open our salons after 12 weeks of lockdown. There has been a long pause and reset for many of our lives and businesses.

HAIR

L

ockdown has given us plenty of time to think about our lives; to reflect and consider what we might do differently. One thing is for sure though, our hair did not stop and pause! The hairdressing industry is expecting to have a “Christmas like” period for the first few weeks of reopening. Many hairdressers have been sent images from distraught clients agonising over their roots and home disasters. With this in mind, salons are preparing to open with a message to customers - we will not judge! As a salon, we are expecting a lot of restyles and corrective colour work, including creating some new looks. My prediction for post-lockdown hair is more shaped haircuts; we might see a resurgence of the bob with lots of texture and a looseness. Layering will be key to any look, whether short or long; layers give movement and texture while carefully placed “pockets” of colour will add to the textured, modern look. Whilst looking at a new hairstyle, think about face framing. Personalised fringes, whether short and dishevelled or longer and swept to the sides, suit individual facial features. Layering around the sides of the face with small, textured pieces “kissing” the cheekbones or jawline all add to the look.

with your stylist. Contrary to belief, we do actually like pictures as they help us to understand the look you are after. The post-lockdown restrictions on how we can operate our salons mean that your visit to the salon may be quite different. Barriers at the front door ensuring you visit alone, appointment only, your stylist wearing a visor, no magazines and perhaps... no coffee! Some salons may also insist on you wearing a face mask. These measures are now a requirement to keep everyone safe; remember that your stylist will be under pressure and possibly feeling a little anxious too. However, what I can be sure of (and I think I speak for all hairdressers and barbers) is that the experience may have changed for now, but the passion to ensure you look great and feel fantastic will always be there, along with a burning desire for every cut and colour to be better than the last! Many hairdressers have used their lockdown time to learn new skills, taking advantage of free online education from top hairstylists. No doubt they will be eager to use their new found skills and knowledge! Is lockdown neck pain giving you a headache? By Nazleen Reed

S

ince March we have seen an increase of people contacting us with neck and shoulder pain. The majority of these complaints started from lockdown and the change in our lifestyle. Some of the reasons for this could be: • Working from home with poor desk position. • Becoming less active as unable to do usual activities. • Sitting for longer periods than normal due to not going out. • Stress and worry about COVID19 and the impact it will have on your health and wealth. Symptoms may start minor with a stiff neck; this could lead to pain when you turn your head which refers into your shoulders and upper back. Muscle imbalances will then occur because the body doesn't like it when we can't move freely! Tight neck muscles can appear, sometimes with knots which we call trigger points. You shouldn't learn to live with these restrictions and pain as this will only lead to more

discomfort. When left for a while the joints in your neck become stiff and immobile and the muscles get tighter and shorten. Imagine your head is in a vice and each day the lever is turned, putting more pressure on your head. This is what you are doing to your body which then results in your headache. Why not be proactive and do something to prevent or resolve the headaches and neck pain? Click here to find my 5 top tips. You can also find short exercise videos (no longer than 15 minutes) for neck strength, upper back and shoulder strength/stretch along with five key exercises for desk workers here. WELLBEING

How to look after your mental health during lockdown By Steph Williams

The current COVID-19 pandemic has led us to face many changes and cope with different challenges. It can be very common to experience symptoms of low mood and worry during these uncertain times. Here are some ideas of how to cope and manage our mental wellbeing during these difficult times.

f you are currently off work, the days may seem longer and boredom may strike. It's common to feel quite down and experience a lack of motivation. However, it may be a good opportunity to focus on the things that you usually don’t have time for. This can vary from doing jobs around the home, or engaging in a hobby or interest. >

WELLBEING

If you struggle to think of things, try to explore activities that you enjoyed doing as a child. It may be riding a bike, colouring or drawing, or playing puzzle games. Perhaps it's simply being outdoors, in the garden, or baking cakes!

have practical solutions to them. There's often things we can do to address our worries but when we have lots of them build up we tend to feel overwhelmed and avoid facing them head on. Begin to write a plan involving small steps to address each problem.

On the other hand, if you are still working, or have children and find your days are quite stressful, it's really important to schedule some time for yourself. Many of us create lists of things we need to get done but we often miss out things to do for ourselves - so it can be a good idea to write it down.

Other worries may be much more out of your control and you may find you have a lot of 'what if' thoughts. For example, "what if my children have to stay off school longer", "what if I loose my job", "what if things never go back to normal". If you find you're having many of these worries, notice them and attempt to think of an alternative thought as well; for example, "what if things do work out okay", “what if my children are learning fine and do go back to school soon." This helps to contain your worries and stop them from spiralling out of control. It also helps your mind to have a balanced opinion instead of only holding on to worst case scenarios

This doesn't have to be anything huge, it could be ten minutes or half an hour in the evening when you could take some well deserved me time. This can entail a variety of things; it may be reading a new book, watching your favourite film or having a relaxing bath. Attempt to start off with something small and achievable and gradually build upon this each week. If you have a particular interest, perhaps you could try something new; for example try online yoga classes, meditation or exercise classes.

> For help and support email Steph at becomeyourbestself19@gmail.com

During this change comes lots of uncertainties and it can be common to experience a great deal of worry. It may be helpful throughout the day to make a list of your worries, no matter how big or small they seem. At the end of each day review your list. You may find some of these worries

MOTHERHOOD

Mum-ing in lockdown Being Me, Being Mum. Ups, downs, trying and getting there‌ By Bianca Liguori

Being a mum can have it’s ups and downs at the best of times. Being a mum during lockdown can be like swimming against the tide with a small army of sea creatures throwing washing, home learning, cooking, playing, tantruming children and an array of toys at you, all from a 2 meter distance of course!

MOTHERHOOD

W

hatever your feelings on lockdown, if you look carefully there are as many positives as negatives. As a working mum I have cherished the extra time I have been able to spend with my little one, watching him grow and change before my eyes. With all the wonderful weather, we’ve spent days just playing in the garden, eating ice creams and splashing about in the fancy, new ‘lockdown’ pool we just needed to have. Those are some of the good days, the up days. Then there are the down days. Like the first weekend of lockdown when my darling little one smashed the widescreen telly with a thermometer (yes, at the beginning of lockdown I was probably more worried about the thermometer!). And the day when I was working from home on an important zoom call and I get the sinking feeling that the house was a little too quiet... to find he’d pushed the fridge water dispenser for who knows how long and had flooded both himself and the kitchen floor! It’s only looking back on it now that I find it funny, at the time it was stressful and annoying. Whatever your home/work situation is at this time, it’s important to remember you’re doing a great job. Even on those down days when life just seems so much harder to get even the simplest of jobs done, you’re still doing a great job. You and your children will

QueenBee magazine

look back on this time one day and think, wasn’t it lovely we got to look after each other at home and learn to be a family again without all the usual hustle, bustle and distractions. Being a mum during lockdown has actually taught me many things. While my levels of patience vary from day to day, I realise it’s family times like these where we really become ‘Mum’. If the ironing basket is full and the toys are all in a pile in the middle of the room for the third day in a row, it’s times like these we need to remember to take a step back and be grateful. Grateful we are safe at this time. Grateful we have our children and families close (even if a phone call away). Grateful we can make memories we will look back on and cherish for years to come. Grateful we’re not missing the little things in life, it’s the small moments that matter most sometimes. Anxious? Stressed? Exhausted? Safe? Rested? Grounded? However you’ve been feeling during this time - and for me it’s been a whole daily mixture of emotions - every feeling you’ve had is valid and part of your journey as a mother. Remember, without the down days, we would never realise the blissful feeling of those precious happy days > Read more of Bianca's blogs at being-mum.com

DATING

The facts about dating during lockdown By Michelle Begy, Matchmaker & Head Hunter, Ignite Dating

Coronavirus has affected almost every aspect of our lives and while the coming months will see businesses and schools reopening, one thing’s for sure, we won’t be returning to ‘normal’ just yet.

W

ith the threat of a second wave still with us, we must continue to be cautious when socialising. Not only will this impact the time we spend with friends and family, but it will also affect how we meet new people and in particular, how we date.

56

QueenBee magazine

The dating landscape saw a huge shift during lockdown, with people unable to go out and meet each another. This led to many relying on apps, agencies and technology to find partners. While no one can say for sure whether this shift will be permanent, the dating world has certainly seen some big changes in 2020. >

Change issue 2020

DATING

More people are looking for love Not being able to see anyone outside your household took its toll on the population, with many desperate to reconnect with friends and family. This is also true of people looking for love. Our new-found appreciation for companionship saw a huge surge in people looking for relationships. In fact, on 29th March Tinder reported 3 billion swipes, the busiest day the app has ever seen. The Inner Circle platform also reported a 15% rise in matches and a 10% increase in messages being sent during lockdown.

Sources: www.thedrum.com/news/2020/05/29/bumbles-time-connect-campaign-depicts-the-realities-dating-during-lockdown www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-52743454

People want to spend more time talking In recent years, dating became more about instant gratification than forming genuine connections. However, since lockdown began, Bumble reported that 46% of its users have found it more

rewarding to spend longer talking to potential partners before meeting them. The same number have said they will continue this approach to dating even after lockdown has been lifted.

Virtual dating is the new trend Finally, there has been a 42% increase in video calls since lockdown began. From virtual pub quizzes to cooking with each other via Skype, video technology has brought people closer together and made virtual dating possible. And with many people saying they will continue using this technology to work remotely after lockdown, this is another shift that looks like it may well be here to stay > Ignite Dating takes the stress out of meeting potential partners. ADVICE

Q: Everyone keeps talking about how excited they are to ‘get back to normal’ after this pandemic. I keep thinking how I don’t want my life to go back to the way it was - but knowing which parts and how to change things feels overwhelming - where do I start? A: 2020 so far has been a calendar full of question marks and whilst many people are looking forward to getting everything back to exactly how things were before, you’re not alone in wanting to make changes. Amongst a more than ever uncontrollable external world, there may be no better time to take control of, and start exploring, our internal worlds. But where to start? When you’re not sure quite where you want to be going, it can feel overwhelming. It might seem a bit fluffy, but the best place to start is to visualise yourself on your preferred path. Take 15 minutes,

There may be no better time to take control of, and start exploring, our internal worlds. QueenBee magazine

get comfortable and let your imagination run wild. Breathe deep, close your eyes and begin imagining yourself in the future, one year from today. After all, is it really that radical to want to live a life that makes you happy? Imagine your best possible future self when everything has gone as well as it possibly could have; you’ve achieved your goals in every part of your life; with your finances, with your physical and mental health, your relationships, your business / career, your social life, your hobbies, everything you can think of. Imagine the scene as vividly as possible, use all of your senses; think about how you will be feeling. What can you hear? Where are you? Who are you with? Visualisation is a powerful way of focusing on the life ahead of you and all that awaits you. Write it all down (or if you’ve got your Blue Peter badge, make a vision board), in the present tense, as if you’re living this out right now - your life as your most authentic and happy self! Then every day, ask yourself… “what is one thing I can do today to move me one step closer to where I want to be?” whatever the answer, give yourself the time to do it. Know that directions and dreams are allowed to change and that’s okay. Most importantly, paint your own picture and only ever walk to the beat of your own drum > Send Emma your question: hello@emmahumphreycoaching.com www.emmahumphreycoaching.com

FINANCES

Getting back on your feet financially after lockdown By Polly Lee, LeeP Accountants

HEALTH FINANCES

S

ince lockdown, you may have been impressed with yourself by how frugally you have been able to live and survive. You may even have made a mental note to yourself to continue in the same vein once lockdown lifts. Here are some tips and ideas on streamlining your financial health going forwards: Start/continue to build up emergency savings. A good way to do this is to put aside £100 a month into a saving account that you can’t or don’t touch. Or if you’re a business, put away 10% of your invoiced income into the savings account every time you’re paid. That way, you won’t miss it and there will be a decent rainy-day pot building up. Have a chat with a mortgage advisor to ensure you are on the best mortgage rate. With interest rates now at an alltime low, it would make sense to switch to take full advantage of this and enjoy lower monthly mortgage payments.

Insurance. What this pandemic has taught us is that those with adequate insurance enjoyed greater peace of mind and less stress. Consider the pros and cons of having critical illness cover and health insurance. They might be cheaper than you think - try www.comparethemarket.com. Get on top of your tax returns. The government self-employment income support grant was awarded based on previous year tax returns. LeeP Accountants offer a monthly subscription service which means you get to spread the cost of doing tax returns and accounts over a 12 month period. Visit: www.leepaccountants.co.uk Make a will. Sadly, when the time comes, having a will means that those left behind will find it easier to sort out your assets. Consider Wills-Week in November when Solicitors give away free Wills in return for a donation.

Do a household budget by using your bank statements to capture the “ins” and “outs” and then take a look at what costs you can cut back on.

I f you have offices reconsider if you need them. If you have been happily working from home, then maybe you don’t and could save yourself a fortune in monthly rent/mortgage payments

Switch energy providers regularly. You can either go through a broker like Utility Warehouse, or you can log onto www.uswitch.com and do it yourself.

Q: What made you decide to set up your business? I noticed a distinct lack of illustrations that depicted black people and I wanted my children to grow up seeing representations of themselves.

Q: What or who has been your biggest influence? Right now my biggest influence is just seeing so many other artists creating and sharing their work online. I love seeing all the colours, techniques, mediums and how uniquely each artist expresses themselves.

Q: What’s been your biggest challenge? I guess that would have to be my own doubts plus unsolicited negative comments by others. It can be challenging to block them out, but I do a lot of work on building my own confidence and being stubborn about what I want to create.

Q: What’s the most rewarding aspect of your business? The most rewarding aspect of my business is the positive feedback I receive about my work. Regardless of whether it is figurative or abstract, the feedback often involves how vibrant and bold my colours are

the business side of things then what I’m doing is not sustainable. It’s a balance that I’m always tweaking.

Q: What’s the one piece of advice you’d give someone who wants to set up in business? Always remember why you started. Write it down, pin it up on your wall and refer to it when times are challenging. If the reason you started your business comes from an authentic, compassionate place, then focusing on your why should help centre you again.

Q: What do you like to do to relax and switch off? I love watching my favourite tv shows and films. Usually these are crime dramas and murder mysteries and one aspect I really enjoy is trying to figure out who did it before the detective can!
