Back in 1960 Carmelo Grech set up a textile factory, called “Smart Shirt”. Fast forward twenty years and the Smart brand takes on a completely different business direction… Smart Supermarket is born! Over the years Smart Supermarket kept going from strength to strength, and year 2000 marked the completion of a €3.5m expansion project for the company. Smart supermarket was the first local supermarket to offer online shopping to its customers back in 2001. 2005 saw a number of retail outlets starting to operate from the complex whilst the Tesco brand was introduced locally in 2014, exclusively to Smart Supermarket.
