Dr. John Dravillas, the founder and owner of Physical Therapyworks on Santa Monica Blvd describes his business as “a clinic with a strong emphasis on ongoing and organized learning, so that means our actions are not only during the time we’re with you, but also while we’re reading journals to stay current, discussing patient cases with each other, or discussing clinical reasoning or practicing techniques with each other.” He says that everyone at Physical Therapyworks is passionate about dedicating themselves to understanding who customers are and what they need and arriving at a comprehensive and accurate diagnosis to help achieve a great outcome.

John says that having the winning this category “means a ton” and that “while we’ve always received a steady stream of thank you’s, hugs, patient referrals from former patients, gifts and cards, it’s also nice to receive such a large and o cial thank you/ validation.” The business has for 20 years been dedicated to helping others, and recently they have learned to ask for help too. The business started a GoFundMe and was able to get a loan. John says that everyone at the business has continued to work as they always have: “both as hard as we can and as smart as we can, as individuals and as a team. By virtue of all of the above, and a little luck, it seems like we’re going to be fortunate enough to make it.” He says that there has been an outpouring of people asking how they can help and has really cemented the idea that the community is really all in this together. John says that his business has a number of strengths that have kept them going and will continue to help them in the coming months: he names the “incredibly strong culture with an emphasis on ongoing and organized learning that leads to exceptional patient outcomes and satisfaction; incredible team members that are talented and highly motivated; a community that knows who we are and values what we do.”

Physical Therapyworks starts its 25th year in September and hopes that with the support of the community they will be here for another 25!

Dr. Laurie Binder is the owner of Santa Monica Acupuncture and Wellness, a “holistic traditional Chinese medical practice” on Wilshire Boulevard in Santa Monica. Through her practice of Chinese medicine, Laurie helps her patients by addressing their unique symptoms with the goal of achieving “health, vitality, and wellness through acupuncture, good nutrition, and a healthy lifestyle.”

She has over 20 years of experience in the healthcare field and has been a Certified Health Consultant, LAMAZE childbirth educator, labor and delivery nurse, OB / GYN Nurse Practitioner, and finally Doctor of AcuDr. Donna Cooper is the owner of Cooper Optometry located on Wilshire Boulevard in Santa Monica. Cooper says her business is “a one-stop-shop for all your vision care needs. We will always make sure you feel welcome and your vision care needs are addressed.” Cooper Optometry has continued to provide service to the community and has created a safe environment for exams. Cooper says “We make sure we keep our patients informed whether it’s with emails, phone calls, or through our website. We worked from home during the closure by puncture. Her experience means that she has an intimate knowledge of both Eastern and Western medicine.

Laurie has found adapting to the economic challenges of 2020 incredibly di cult. She says that she is delighted to know that her patients appreciate the work that they do together in the pursuit of wellness. Laurie’s conversations with customers this year have been focused a great deal around wellness, health, and self-care. These conversations are not uncommon in her line of work, but are becoming ever more important in the world, country, and city today. In regards

Now that we are open, we ensure that each patient is pre-screened before being seen and we have strict PPE and disinfection protocols in place.”

Cooper is grateful to have a connection with her patients. Cooper says, “our biggest strength is my wonderful sta and their abilmonths, Laurie says: “I look forward to helping my patients face challenges by listening to their issues. I give acupuncture treatment to help my patients achieve balance. In Chinese medical terms, balance equates to optimal health. I include sound healthy lifestyle and nutritional advice during my sessions.”

Laurie would like the people of Santa Monica to know that she loves her work and loves to help others achieve balance by teaching them how to live a healthy life. Laurie says that she is inspired by her patients on a daily basis.
