GoodafternoonEveryoneand welcometotoday’sgame.

It’s been a busy couple of weeks, and our last home game against AFC Mansfield was satisfying after a great win. Over the past couple of weeks, we have been putting together the new scholarship program and academy to start in September. Our choice of partner is SGI Sports Group international and many of you will remember that former Eastwood Town manager Paul Cox who is heavily involved in this project.

We want to create a pathway and culture for our young players, from the youngest age group through to vets’ football, walking football via a program geared to developing the best footballers and young adults that is possible to achieve.

It’s been my pleasure to look at several age groups within the club and it is pleasing and heartening, not only to celebrate the successful teams but also to view the enjoyment that so many young people get from using the facilities here at Eastwood, and to promote the community spirit that the club engenders.

My thanks go to all the coaches who give up their time, to the parents and of course to the players who make this club what it is.

We have many positive plans for the club going forward and we will keep you informed of these in due course.

It is my intention over the next few weeks to invite everyone who is interested in becoming more involved in the club along to a meeting, but also to present to everyone in the club our vision for the future at Eastwood CFC.

Again, my thanks to you all. Uptheredbadgers!

Last weekend was a blessing and a curse for us not having a fixture. It has allowed us to get 3 good training sessions in before today’s fixture which has been great for us but at the same time after a great result against AFC Mansfield it would of been better to have a game to hopefully keep the momentum going.

We are really looking forward to a big local derby and hopefully getting 3 points, with the brand of football we want to play the current squad are more than capable of playing attractive winning football that hopefully will slowly but surely get people back through the doors like the good old days!

WHERE IT ALL BEGAN

The club was formed in 1968 and played its early football in the Alfreton & District Sunday League, of which they were a founding member. They continued in the league for around eight seasons whilst establishing themselves. For the 1977/78 Season, their attention turned to the Nottinghamshire Sunday Football League in which they finished runners-up in Division Three of the Premier section in their first season under the management of Graham (Dart) D’Arcy. A period was spent in the different local leagues, but in the late 80’s with the ambition to progress, the club decided to concentrate on Saturday football and joined the Central Midlands Football League.

In the 1990-91 season the first team won the C.M.L Division One Cup. In the meantime, the club had taken on board their first junior sides, operating initially in the Rowsley & District Youth League and shortly afterwards in the Derby City Youth League, Mansfield Youth League and in the late 90’s the Notts Imperial Youth League. Junior football has really taken off in recent years, growing from four junior teams in 2008 to nine for the 2016/17 season, with many honours won along the way. The club had a period without senior football and concentrated on the junior section.

In 2006 the decision was made to start a men’s team again; a side was entered the Midland Regional Alliance for the 06/07 season. This team had notable success winning Division 2 in 2007/08 by a margin of 14 points and scoring 175 goals. They also won the MRA Junior Cup that year, beating Division 1 side Willington 8-2 in the final and lifted the Notts Junior Cup, beating The Three Crowns 3-1 in extra time.

A reserve side was started in 2009/10 in the MRA Division Two and despite attempting to keep a pathway open to the first team for junior players, the reserves team proved difficult to keep going. However, they did have some success, winning the Notts Junior Cup in 2011/12 as the first team had done a few seasons earlier.

THE RISE UP THE LEAGUES

In 2011/12 the first team joined the Notts Senior League, finishing mid table in the first two seasons and doing reasonably well in cup competitions. The 2013/14 season saw the first team crowned champions of the NSL, during this season the team also defeated two teams from higher leagues in the Notts Senior Cup, Radford FC and AFC Mansfield. In the 2015/16 season the men’s team re-joined the Central Midlands League after an absence of around 15 years. In the first season back in the league they took the South division by storm, a mid season streak of 15 successive league wins helping them to the title. The Parishioners eventually finished top; 10 points clear of their nearest rivals to take the league trophy at the first attempt.

In the 2016/17 season the men’s first team won the Central Midlands League South again, an unprecedented feat in the new CMFL North/South set up and they also bagged the Buckingham Insurance League Cup. Plans were afoot to upgrade the ground should the team win the league again and following great work by the committee, managers and first team players, physical works were completed by March 2017 to enable the ground to be graded ‘H’

good enough for step 6. Alongside this the application for promotion was submitted and funding sought for floodlights. Both were successful and, as a result Selston FC will play at step 6 for the first time in their history. Floodlights are due to be operational by September 2017. The club won several awards off the field in season 16/17 too: FA Charter Standard Club of the Year for Nottinghamshire, FA Charter Standard Club of the Year for East of England Region and Secretary of the year for the Central Midlands league. The men’s reserve team finished 3rd in the Notts Senior League Division Two and were promoted to Division One. The club operated 10 junior teams and 3 men’s teams in 2017/18. East Midlands Counties league awaited and a solid 4th place finish in our first ever season at step 6.

Season 2018/19 will go down as the greatest ever in the club’s history, winning the East Midlands Counties League by 6 points while not having a playing budget, full credit to the management and players. The club also competed in the FA Vase for the first time since 2001, along with qualifying for the FA Cup which will be our debut in the competition for season.

2019/20 as well as Step 5 football coming to The Parish Hall, the clubs highest ever position after a remarkable 6 promotions in 10 years.

At the end of the 2020–21 season the club were transferred to the Premier Division North of the United Counties League.

Eastwood CFC ended a three match winless run on Saturday, taking all three points against fellow relegation threatened AFC Mansfield.

After a humiliating performance and result at Newark seven days before the Red Badgers returned to the Halbrooke Stadium hoping to build on recent good home form.

The joint bosses made six changes from the 4-0 defeat. All four new signings; Kamani Wilson, Jermain Hollis, Tyreece Robinson and Oliver Robinson all started. Terry Atem returned from his four game suspension and joint gaffer Martin Ball was also in the starting eleven. With captain Travis Munn unavailable goalkeeper Joe Searson captained the side.

Etien Omari ended his run of six straight starts with James Allen, Jack Messom, Jack McDowell and Daryll Thomas all on the bench.

It was the visitors who started the stronger side, ex Red Badgers midfielder Joe Harrison causing the Eastwood defence problems with some dangerous deliveries from set pieces, luckily for the hosts no one was on hand capitalise.

With thirty-one minutes on the clock slightly against the run of play Mansfield took the lead. Harrison with the in-swinging corner from the right was punched away by Searson, Eastwood then failed to sufficiently clear the ball, the ball fell at the feet of Harrison who whipped in a inviting cross for Connor Moore to head home, Searson did get a hand on it but questions will be asked of the Eastwood defence as to why Moore was able to get so much time to power his header home.

The reds pushed for an equaliser Tyreece Robinson forcing (another former Red Badger) in Rich Dearle into a superb save after connecting with a Ryan Tait free kick.

Four minutes before the break Eastwood did get their equaliser Tait involved again his corner went over everyone but dropped at the feet of Czerwak who crossed the ball into the back post for Terry Atem to head home off the bar.

After a strong team talk, Eastwood flew out the blocks in the second half taking the lead within sixty seconds of the restart. Good work from McDonald after a powerful run the big man found himself on the edge of the box, the experienced centre forward pulled the ball back for Kamani Wilson to drop his shoulder before finishing neatly into the corner out of the reach of Dearle. Seven minutes later the game was put to bed. Neat build up play led to Atem squaring the ball to McDonald who drove towards the Mansfield goal before unleashing an unstoppable shot into the roof of the net. A late scare as the Searson brought down the Mansfield forward and picked up the first yellow card of the afternoon for the hosts. 20 yards out Ethan Hulley sent his effort wide, the full time whistle shortly followed. As Eastwood made it three unbeaten on home soil for the first time since October 2021.
