Nelson Mandela: The Legend Who Made a Difference

The legendary, Nelson Mandela facilitated the world in becoming a better place by advocating the rights of the oppressed and eliminating apartheid. He also was an activist for global peace and providing social justice to the people of the world that were discriminated.

Nelson Mandala strived hard to achieve his mission which was to put an end to the miseries of the people of South Africa and beyond. Being an associate of African National Congress Party, he was in the authoritative position which also landed him jail for a couple of years. The leader was highly zealous to his duty.

Born in 1918, Nelson Mandela was a part of the royal family of South African village of Mvezo. His father, Gadla Henry Mphakanyiswa was the chief of his tribe, Thembu and had four wives with nine children. Nelson Mandela was the son from his father’s third wife, named, Nosekeni Fanny. After the birth, Mandela was named Rolihlahla by his parents. He was later adopted by an elite leader of Thembu who groom him for future leadership.

Nelson Mandela was the first of his family to attend a school at a missionary school. He was named ‘Nelson’ by his teacher which was a custom for African students to attain English names.

Nelson Mandela along with his academics also excelled in boxing. He attended the University of Forte Hare which was the only institute for the black people of South Africa.

Nelson was expelled from his University along with his friends for violating the University policies.

In 1944, Nelson Mandela married his wife, Evelyn Ntoko Mase. He also became an active member of the African National Congress in the similar year. Nelson Mandela, along with his friend and partner, Oliver Tambo, established the youth league, called ANC. The party outrivaled by putting forward the important issues of South Africa regarding racial discrimination towards blacks. This included the laws that were unjustified and policies that questioned the basic rights. Nelson Mandela also established the first law firm for blacks that counseled legally, free of cost.

To accomplish his mission, Nelson Mandela initiated the resistance movement. He became the leader of MK, which originated from his political party. The movement carried on for several years after which, Nelson Mandela was forced into jail. He remained imprisoned for almost three decades. After the freedom from imprisonment, Mandela made associations with

various political organizations of South Africa to eliminate apartheid. For this purpose, he also received a Nobel Prize along with de Klerk in 1993. In 1994, he became the first black president of South Africa.

Nelson Mandela fought for global critical issues till the last years of his life. He is a legend, recognized globally for his hard work and struggle. In 2013, Nelson Mandela passed away due to lung cancer.
