Who We Are Listening to other people’s perspective and communicating our own points of view help us live together better.

Point of View: the position from which something or someone is observed.

We share the art room with hundreds of other people. Though we all may need a tool or material, sharing these items, communicating effectively, and caring for them benefits everyone. We learn how we must all work together to keep our studio space safe, tidy and organized.

We will all paint the same item, but from different perspectives. As we discuss the variations of our views, the literal understanding helps students develop their ability to perceive situations from various angles. We are all looking at the same plant, but that doesn’t mean we all see the same thing.

Working in three dimensions is an integral part of developing the capacity for abstract thought. This Sculpture Unit prepares Grade 2 for the UOI: How the World Works, when they study Structures later in the year. It allows them time and materials to explore creative outlet for their new understanding of transportation systems.

Students have the opportunity to create paper models of the various transportation methods they are studying. This requires excellent hand eye coordination and capacity for abstract thinking, as they learn to work from two to three dimensions. Students are encouraged to create accurately, vehicles with moving parts. Conscious choice and manipulation of the various types of paper is important to maintain structural integrity and authenticity.


How We Express Ourselves - Movement can be used to communicate REFLECTION - Body Language, Gesture, Life Drawing Understanding social cues, body language and gestures can help us act and react appropriately to another person or situation.

How do we express ourselves without saying a word? Grade two shall observe an exchange between a minimum of two people, and try to guess the feelings and opinions of the people they observed from their body language.
