PURPOSE:
EXHIBITION:
The purpose of this brief is to produce a piece of work corroboratively with the aim and purpose that it will be printed and hung in an exhibition. The basic purpose of the flag is as an aesthetic piece of art work, but a further meaning can be added to it,
The context for where this flag will be shown is in an exhibition at Islingtong Mill in Manchester. It will be an exhibition where there are many flags on show all unique and different that have been created during the workshop run by Dr.Me. BRIEF SIX

GAME: To create this flag we thought about different ways we could collaborate, we came up with the concept of finishing off each others ‘...’ where we experimented with drawings and then came to play a word game where you fill in the gaps taking it in turns to say a word creating a random sentence. We could not remember the name of this game so called it - That’s
what she said. This is the game that we will base our flag on. We feel it represents our collaborative process together well, as we do things together and work with one and other not against each other or leave all the work with one person it is very fair. BRIEF SIX
RESEARCH:
SUZANNE MOORE
DESIGNER FLAG:
HISTORY:
I have conducted some research into flags of graphic designers have created so that I can the variety of designs and things you can achieve. From looking at the flags it is clear to see that it is always very unique to each designer which is something to bare in mind when designing ours.
Researching into the history and purpose of a flag has given me a better understanding about what they symbolise. They are a means of identification which is something that is worth considering when we develop and design our flag. BRIEF SIX
CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT:
SUZANNE MOORE
PHRASE:
PILLOW:
We played the game ‘that’s what she said’ over and over generating phrases that we could represent visually. In the end we decided to go for the first phrase we came up with as it was the most real and spontaneous, that phrase reads,”The pillow is very big and it will explode”
We researched ways of making pillows explode, but decided against creating an explosion and went with creating an illusion. We wanted represent the pillow being torn in half and exploding using our hands to look like it was being pulled apart. This would then represent the phrase well. BRIEF SIX
FINAL OUTCOME:
SUZANNE MOORE
SIDE ONE: This is the final outcome of the front of our flag it represents the phrase well and creates the illusion of the pillow being torn apart. The use of our hands makes the flag feel more personal to us as we feature on it, it also represents our playful approach to design (where appropriate). BRIEF SIX
FINAL OUTCOME:

SIDE TWO: Side two is the aftermath of the pillow exploding, it is just a bed of feathers. We decided to add a bit of context to our flag by including the game title and the phrase we are illustrating. We want to create an air of confusion and make people try and think to work out what is going on, but there will be a plaque on the wall to explain just incase the confusion is too much.

IN CONTEXT:
IN CONTEXT pt1:
This is the flag in the correct context of the exhibition it was intended for. It was really great to see the flag hung up and prepared for exhibition. It was an exciting event and a great opportunity to see a piece of design work in print and in situ of where it is meant to be.
Above is the flag in its second context of Belgrave music hall in Leeds. The flags have found a great home in the room where the gigs take place. It was a nice surprise to see the flag here and they all really suit their new home. BRIEF SIX
