The Van Burkleo Family has gifted $1 million to the UTRGV College of Education and P-16 Integration as a way to continue the legacy of philanthropy, civic engagement and community involvement established by their parents, James and Dorinda Van Burkleo. The scholarship was announced Monday, Oct. 4, during a press conference at Rio Bank . Siblings Terry Van Burkleo, Dee Anne Payne and Pat Van Burkleo created the Dorinda and James Van Burkleo Endowed Scholarship in early 2021 to help support students enrolled in their last semester of college who are par ticipating in the UTRGV Clinical Teaching Program. UTRGV President Guy Bailey said the Dorinda and James Van Burkleo Endowed Scholarship will benefit countless students in perpetuity. The legacy gift is in memory of their parents, they said, who knew first-hand the value of a highereducation institution and the need for such an endowment in the Valley.
