Based on beautiful letters and positive reactions from you we decided to take another huge step on the exciting life journey of our SOFFA magazine: that is to take it to print! This December SOFFA will celebrate the first anniversary and so we decided to publish a printed issue called BEST OF 2014. This special issue will contain the best of the previous issues as well as new articles created exclusively for this issue. Since the transition from a digital form to a paper one is quite arduous, we need your help! HELP US TAKE SOFFA TO PRINT! We would be more than happy if you could support us in our Kickstarter campaign where you can get the paper issue of BEST OF 2014 as well as many other rewards! The November SOFFA mini issue is full of autumn warm inspiration and we were not working on it on our own. Similarly to September issue, a large part of it was created by our friends Anna Dumon and Veronika Alexová. At the start of this issue we would like to introduce them to you. Enjoy our reading and have a beautiful November! Your SOFFA team

PAY I N G A V I S I T. . . Afternoon in a tea house

NOVEMBER IS IN FULL SWING, DAYS ARE GROWING SHORTER AND YOU MIGHT BE WANDERING ABOUT HOW TO SPEND A DAY OFF. IF YOU ARE IN A CITY, GO FOR A WALK AROUND THE EMPTIED STREETS AND ABSORB THE MELANCHOLIC ATMOSPHERE. IF YOU LIKE TO WATCH LEAVES SILENTLY FALLING, TRY TO PAY A VISIT TO A TEA HOUSE WHERE YOU CAN LET YOUR THOUGHTS FLOW AND FALL SILENTLY AND FREELY. On one Sunday afternoon in Karlín we found a lovely tea shop and tea room called Tea Mountain. We accepted the invitation and entered a minimalistic wooden interior themed as an autumn forest: it was hard to believe we were still in the centre of a capital city. Among the bubbling water sounds and the melodies by Antonio Carlos Jobim we were browsing through brochures about future Czech architects and designers and revelled in the fact that after a very long time we found a place where we can peacefully think. ■ We would like to give our thanks to the Tea Mountain tea shop and tea room for cooperation and for making the premises available for our photo shoot. WHAT CAN BETTER UNDERLINE THE RELAXING ATMOSPHERE OF YOUR FAVOURITE CUP OF TEA THAN THE SOUND OF A MUSIC.

WOULD YOU LIKE TO GIVE A NEW LOOK TO THE IKEA DISPLAY CABINET THAT HAS GROWN A LITTLE TOO OLD TO YOU? OR WOULD YOU SIMPLY LIKE TO ADD A NEW ORIGINAL PIECE OF FURNITURE INTO YOUR HOUSE? TRY IT WITH US! DIFFICULTY: medium TIME: 2 hrs. WHAT YOU NEED: display cabinet Nornäs from IKEA wooden wickerwork (ca 80 x 110 cm) 6,6 m wooden ledge (4 two-metre ones) two-sided scotch tape saw metre scissors pencil
When thinking about what the last Living by SOFFA article should be like, we wanted to introduce you to one of the hot trends of this season – wickerwork furniture. We have come up with a design for you so that you can get inspired and make yourself a beautiful original wickerwork door! For our design we chose an IKEA display cabinet Nornäs; however, you can use any other glass door on your furniture: all you need to do is to adjust the scale and the position of the top ledges. DOWNLOAD THE SCHEME HERE. INSTRUCTIONS: Dismount the glass doors and measure their precise length and width. Cut out the measured pieces from the piece of wickerwork. For our cabinet door it is 30 x 103 cm. Place the wickerwork onto the glass door and use a pencil to draw the position of the door’s hinges; cut out holes for hinges. ►
Around the edges and in the area of the future top ledges attach the twosided scotch tape. Attach the wickerwork and press on to it for a couple of seconds to ensure it adheres to the surface. Now prepare the vertical ledges to cover the edges of the wickerwork. Measure the length of the door and cut two pieces of the appropriate measure from the prepared wooden ledges (in our case it was 2 x 103 cm). Taper the ends of one of them in a 45° angle from the left (piece 1) and the other one from the right (piece 2). Use the two-sided scotch tape to attach the ledges to the door in a vertical position on the side with no hinges. The tapered ends should always point to the centre of the glass. Now measure the length between the hinges, cut out two pieces accordingly and attach them to the door. (pieces 3 and 4). Then start making the horizontal ledges. Measure the distance between the edge of the door and the hinges and cut four pieces of such length. Taper one in a 45° angle from the right top side (it will be the one at the bottom of the left wing – piece 5). Taper the second one on the left top side (it will be the one at the bottom side of the other wing – piece 6). Another one should be tapered in the same angle on the right bottom side and attached to the top of the left wing (piece 7). The last one of this series should be tapered on the left bottom side and attached to the top of the right wing (piece 8). The dividing ledges in the centre of the door (pieces 9, 10, 11 and 12) are all that is left now. Measure the inner width between the ledges. You will need four of these small ones. Now stick them onto the door at the very spots where the wickerwork is attached to the glass so that the scotch tape is concealed. Now fit the doors back onto the cabinet and you are done. ■ Wickerwork, Afsint.cz

ON THE BRINK OF WINTER THE NATURE IS ABOUT TO FALL ASLEEP AND WE SPEND MORE TIME AT HOME – IDEALLY WITH A GOOD CUP OF SOOTHING TEA AND SOME NIBBLE. Use long autumn evenings for preparation of meals according to our recipes. This time we give you three of them! Rosehip and apple jam, rosehip infusion and linden tea. While the wild rose fruits are rich in the essential nutrient for humans – Vitamin C, linden nicely scents your house and warms up your body. Do not hesitate and come to discover the gentle taste of autumn nature! Maybe on your walk you will find more inspiration for other delicious treats and delicacies! ■

TIME: 4 hrs. PORTIONS: 1 cup INGREDIENTS: water a handful of dried rosehip anything for sweetening
INSTRUCTIONS: In order to avoid the loss of the essential vitamins, it is better to use a slightly non-traditional method. Grind the dried rosehip, pour over water and leave to soak for several hours. Heat up (ideally less than the boiling point) and sieve into cups. Try Stevia for sweetening. ■

TIME: 15 min. PORTIONS: 1 cup INGREDIENTS: water dried linden flowers anything for sweetening
Linden tea is great when you do not feel particularly well. When you feel under the weat-her and you anticipate a proper cold. However, because of its delicious taste, it would be pity not to enjoy it just for the sake of it. INSTRUCTIONS: Pour hot water over a spoonful of dried linden flowers and leave to soak for ten minutes. Pour into cups and serve. Try to sweeten your tea with honey. ■
THE SIMPLEST RECIPES ARE THE BEST! YOU DO NOT NEED ANY LUXURIOUS POTS OR SPECIALISED INSTRUMENTS: THE GOOD OLD ENAMELED CUPS, WOODEN CHOPPING BOARDS AND OLD-FASHIONED SPOONS ARE SIMPLY THE BEST!
RO SE HIP A N D A PPL E JA M text: Veronika Alexová | styling and photo: Anna Dumon
TIME: 90 min. PORTIONS: 1 jar
INSTRUCTIONS: Wash rosehip – cut and get rid of the seeds and hair. If you do not manage to get rid of them completely, do not despair. Cut out the apple core.
INGREDIENTS: 100 g rosehip 1 apple cane/coconut sugar 1 teaspoon of agar
Pour water over the rosehip and apple pieces so that they are just under water. Boil until soft (beware: the longer you boil them the more of Vitamin C is lost). Press the mixture through sieve (it is possible to mix with a hand-mixer and then sieve). Pour the juice back in the pot and add sugar (1:4) and boil until it dissolves. When the mixture is slightly thicker, add a teaspoon of agar. Boil for 5 minutes. Put in jars. ■
