The mini on-line issue of SOFFA that you have just opened is proof that SOFFA is truly a European magazine. On these few pages, you can set off with us on a journey that will take you to Prague, Poznań and Paris. Wondering why all the cities start with the letter P? Pure coincidence. :)

The unconventional guide to Prague found in the latest – 13th – printed issue of SOFFA has been supplemented in this mini issue with tips for other amazing places from Eva Šafránková of the web portal Prague Up & Coming. The purpose of our stopover in Poznań is to pay a visit to a beautiful new flat. Our journey ends in Paris with a walk that we took in January when we were in the French capital visiting Hermès’ petit h atelier. We hope you enjoy our mini European adventure! Your SOFFA team

how we lov e to feel Prague text and photo: Eva Šafránková | Prague Up & Coming
There are several things we have in common with PragueUp: from passion for photography and clean design to love of Prague. All of them being very good reasons to do something together. And one thing is here already – as of now you can find all of our workshops listed on the event calendar at Prague-Up: www.prague-up.com. That said, let us introduce you to a guide that became a popular companion for all of those wanting to explore and feel the city from a different angle. French charm and Kazakh hospitality combined He is French and she is Kazakh and together they run two colourful, fairy tale wallpaper decorated bistros in Holesovice, a supposedly gloomy Prague’s district. Abrakadabra is a tiny bakery and a sweet shop designed for you to grab a coffee or a small sandwich on a way to work. On the other side the Oh La La bistro is a perfect choice for a lunch or tapas dinner you can enjoy with your friends. Tour the bars Letna, Zizkov and Krymska. Three exceptional neighbourhoods where its locals prefer to spend their free time at. A quiet corner right on the edge where Stromovka ends and city begins is where you find the PARK cafe&bar. While you are there, take a closer look at its sign over a bar. Former butcher’s shop and a supermarket got turned into a bar. There is something left from each of its life stages which now blends into its ►

unique “no-style”. Zenit in Vrsovice is a place to go at for public readings and debates, exhibitions or music performances. At Vlkova 26 you can really enjoy the atmosphere with the lights dimmed enjoy one of the frequent musical performances. Or treat yourself with a beautiful single malt whisky at a nearby Malkovich bar. Maybe you will even have a chance to meet the actor’s double. Coffee and chat There are many busy places in Prague where you would wish to have a good coffee place but wouldn’t actually expect one to be there. Prazirna, just a few steps from busy I.P. Pavlova is one of these places. You may have walked by Original Coffee many times and always have missed it. Located in Betlemska right in the historic heart of Prague, Original Coffee is another place to go for. Not only the coffee there will give you the right kick you can also enjoy some interesting art displayed on the walls or in the shop windows. . Let’s go shopping When she has seen this courtyard for the first time, Kristyna Palousova has immediately decided it’s the right place. She eventually opened the BackYard fashion gallery there – a place where you can meet the designers themselves. Shit Happens showroom is another place to get close to designers and actually see them at work at the same time. Ceramics is their addiction and you can watch them create some beautiful ceramic usable items as well as jewellery. Praha – Berlín – Tokyobike Riding a bike is getting more and more popular in Prague every year. To pick the right one make sure to check out the Tokyobike showroom in Karlin. You can try and also shop various bicycle accessories. ■ Prague-Up gives you a better insight: www.prageu-up.com

After a few minutes into our interview with Petr Růžička, we couldn’t help but notice that Petr was always moving. This was not restlessness, but a direct result of a firm opinion held by Petr: a person has to have a sufficient amount of movement to live better. Petr Růžička organises regular seminars where he teaches his students how to move properly and even to stand their hands. Petr believes that handstands are something that everyone should master and that we are cheating ourselves out of a lot by not knowing how – everyone who learns to do handstands will apparently have a different view of the world, not just figuratively, but also literally. The aim of his seminars is to bring movement into people’s lives, to have them move, not just at specified times of day in a gym, but all day, at any time and however possible. People will then learn to control their bodies better and find that they are suddenly able to do things that they could only dream about before. ►
13
The participants in Petr’s seminars often rid themselves of chronic back pain, are better prepared to do sports and generally become more physically fit. This approach is based on the Ido Portal method, which Petr became acquainted with a few years ago in Israel. He was taught by the founder himself, something that Petr is rightly proud of – Ido Portal chooses his students carefully, and Petr is so far the only person in the Czech Republic who is allowed to teach this method. The Ido Portal method combines elements of gymnastics, capoeira, boxing and even ballet. You don’t have to look for any mysticism in the idea that “movement is life”. It is a fact that a person is always moving. After all, it is the constant movement of the heart that keeps us alive, and movement is natural to humans. Over time, however, people began to move less and less, and people today tend to lead sedentary lives. Petr Růžička is trying to get his students to start moving again, to teach them that it’s actually good for you to brush your teeth while squatting or to join your kids in a game of tag in the park. This approach is similar to the philosophy of the traditional Czech sports movement known as Sokol: a person should not be an expert in only one physical activity, but should master a bit of everything, be it hockey, horseback riding, or biking. You should teach your body all forms of movement and not let it degenerate. If you have enough movement, you are on your way to having a healthier and happier life. ■ www.petrruzicka.com

Fashion Show DOTEK Fa sh io n, w h i ch h e lps
It may not be a secret for many of us that the city of Zlín is the birthplace of plenty of successful fashion designers. One beautiful day, the question of why not to couple something gorgeous with something beneficial aroused. And after a while, the student project called Fashion Show DOTEK was established. This fashion show is not only about visual beauty, but it is also about help where it is most needed. The fourth year of Fashion Show DOTEK was held at the end of February. The highlight of the event was represented by the sixth wearable collection from which every visitor could take one piece to their own wardrobe. To be more specific, it was an auction collection whose main idea was to underline

the beauty of women in the mature age. “We want to show that when the youth and vividnes fades, the most valuable that a woman built throughout her life remains. It is her charisma and personality” sais about the collection the art director of the project Vivien Babicová. However, DOTEK of 2016 was not only about the fashion show. A series of great workshops conducted by leading personalities from the world of the fashion industry took place in the morning hours...

M INIM AL IST I C F L AT I N POZN A N text: Ellie Hal | realization: Mili Mlodzi Ludzie | photo: PION
Based in the Lazarz district of Poznan, Poland, this modern and minimalistic apartment, built at the turn of the 18th and 19th century, provides a bright and airy home, complete with an interior design we simply love. Here we are lucky enough to share with you an exclusive preview into this beautiful space. For a flat, the space is large enough to accommodate three bedrooms, a bathroom, separate open plan kitchen and living area, and an additional guest toilet. Bringing the kitchen and living room together within one large open space is something the owners felt important in creating a focal point of the apartment: a relaxing space in which they would spend most of their time, cooking and unwinding with friends and family. Another important concept was to create a separate working area, as to not interrupt this relaxing space designed so well with the reality and pressure of work. Therefore, one corner of the living room has been reserved for a productive working environment, comfortable enough to house a bright cabinet from which the owners can work in a creative environment during the day time. When it comes to the interior styling of this flat, a calm, bright and airy space has been created, using only high quality materials. For example, the floors throughout the apartment have been decked out in ash parquetry, which matches that used to create a wooden partition wall between the bedroom and wardrobe. Perhaps most important in creating this minimalistic space free of unnecessary clutter, is the way in which the flat has been designed to allow for plenty of hidden storage. â– For more information go to: www.milimlodziludzie.com

paRIS An early spring walk through the city
Impressions of Paris text: Adéla Kudrnová | photo: Adéla Havelková
You can’t get enough of Paris, so to close off this mini issue, we would like to bring you a few images from this incredibly photogenic French city. Open a bottle of good red wine and dream away! “Why Paris?” you may be asking yourself. The answer is simple. The reportage on Hermès’ petit h atelier in the printed February issue of SOFFA 13 is certainly fresh in your mind, and that story was shot in Paris in January. During our busy schedule at the workshop we did however find the time to take a stroll through the city and take a few snapshots. ■

There is something characteristic about every city: Stockholm has a lots of water and islands; New York has skyscrapers; Prague has red rooftops and spires. For us, Paris is grey – grey rooftops, grey facades, grey shutters and, at this time of year, even grey skies. But grey suits Paris well, don’t you think?
