automated tests and results (internal calculations of DAR, PI, DD and other factors); PC Control; and report compliant software. Our Ground Tester line finds its roots in the early 1930s. A null balance galvanometer, a decade resistance box and a DC power source combined to make one of the first ground testers on the market. Over 20 years ago, AEMC revolutionized the ground testing market by offering clamp-on ground resistance testers, eliminating the need to disconnect the system to test it and eliminating the need for auxiliary rods to do the test. Several generations of improvements and additional features has strengthened AEMC’s position as the industry standard and leader in clamp-on ground resistance testers. We again led the way in fall-of-potential ground testing with the introduction of an automatic tester in 2006 that automatically locked onto the optimum frequency to test at and calculated all test results for soil resistivity, ground resistance earth coupling and bond resistance, as well as, stored the test data and generated computer reports including fall-of-potential plots. Our latest introduction, a tower test system, again is an innovative design providing the ability to test tower grounding systems with out de-energizing them or removing the overhead ground conductor, saving considerable time and money and improving operator safety. AEMC’s line of current probes has long been the standard for Power Quality analysis with the world leaders in power quality instruments standardizing on these probes

Conduit Repair Systems, Inc.
T
he old saying, “necessity is the mother of all inventions” holds true for Conduit Repair Systems, Inc. Our split conduit products were originally designed and developed by a cable TV technician and his father in-law that worked as an engineer. The technician found that he needed a repair product that truly restored damaged PVC pipe to its original state. The technician did some research and found that what he needed didn’t exist at the time. The two men then developed our patented snap together split conduit products. Since the early days of the company, many additional applications for the products have since been discovered including enclosing exposed cables, relocating aerial lines to underground, enclosing cables on bridges, protecting cables on telephone poles, enclosing fiber optics, and relocating cables along roads. Conduit Repair Systems, Inc. formally began business operations in 1995 and has seen exponential growth ever since. Our company is headquartered in St. George, Utah, which is located about 100 miles North East of Las Vegas, Nevada along Interstate 15. The company chose St. George because of its reputation as the “Palm Springs” of Utah. The warm weather, the worldclass golf courses, combined with a very qualified work force made the selection to locate in St. George very easy. Over the past fifteen years Conduit Repair Systems, Inc. has become the worldleading manufacturer of split conduit products. Conduit Repair Systems manufactures split conduit, split couplings, split sweeps, and other related split conduit products specifically designed for electrical, cable TV, and communications applications. COMPANY PROFILE • Northwest Lighting Systems Co.
Northwest Lighting Systems Co. orthwest Lighting Systems Co. was created in 1991 in Golden Valley, MN by James D. Miller. Jim was a Chicago Lighting Rep who invested in a small HID Ballast Manufacturing Co. He was searching for a means to break into the aftermarket for HID Ballast Replacement Kits and was frustrated by the traditional Electrical Distributor Network that was dominated by the major manufacturers. He saw how successful the “Direct to Contractor” model was for some fixture manufacturers. Why not give it a try with components? Thus, Northwest Lighting was born. For 21 years, Northwest Lighting has provided HID Ballast Replacement Kits directly to contractors, property managers distributors and select national accounts at significant saving over the local electrical supply house. Our large stock of both high and low volume models results in 95% of all orders shipping the same day. Contractors have come to realize that waiting for their local distributor to get a 480v ballast or a F-Can ballast in from the factory makes no sense when Northwest Lighting has it in stock at a better price. In fact,
N

about 35% of our sales are to distributors who call us instead of the factory because they know that “Northwest Lighting has it in stock”. In 1999 Jim Miller passed away and the company was bought by two of his longtime employees, John Hannasch and Kevin Eagan. They quickly expanded the company by opening a Sales Office and Warehouse in New Hampshire as well as a warehouse in Texas. They opened a warehouse in Tempe, AZ in January of 2012 as well as an additional Minnesota warehouse in Burnsville, MN in December. That facility is now the Corporate Headquarters. Future plans include a warehouse in the Southeastern part of the country. John and Kevin have also expanded the product offering tremendously. Today, Northwest Lighting is a Full Service Lighting Distributor. They carry several lines of Electronic fluorescent ballasts, Plastic sign ballasts, F-Can, freezer ballasts, Electronic HID and Compact Fluorescent ballasts. They stock a huge inventory of HID lamps, Linear & Compact Fluorescent lamps, Halogen, LED etc. Many customers now want to buy the

specific HID components that they need instead of the entire ballast kit. Northwest Lighting now offers HID capacitors, ignitors, lampholders, mini fuses and other replacement components and stocks them in large quantity. Northwest Lighting also specializes in sourcing hard-to-find lamps and ballasts. Their numerous contacts throughout the lighting industry allow them to find that difficult part in less time than it would take for you to search for it. Call them with your next sourcing challenge and save yourself the headaches. Sokkia’s product line features total stations, levels, GPS receivers, powerful field and office software, rugged data collectors, supplies and accessories. Sokkia DX motorized total station - Get the job done easily and quickly in any environment
Sokkia recently announced the new DX total station series employing DirectAiming technology, which uses an automatic aiming feature that seeks out prisms even in dim or dark conditions, and aims precisely, without the operator having to manually aim the instrument. The DX series incorporates reliable security, asset tracking, remote diagnostics and field support with TSshield™. The DX series of total stations introduces quick collimation that utilizes intelligent algorithms that automatically searches for the center of the target, regardless of lighting or job site conditions. Maintaining consistent collimation accuracy and speed, due to the advanced technology, is extremely easy to learn and operate regardless of operator skill level. Using a data collector at the prism pole, the DX can be used for a one-man surveying operation. The DX is loaded with MAGNET™ Field onboard software. MAGNET Field is an easy-to-use icon based software for point collection and construction layout. In addition, the long-range data communications technology provides wireless connection with a data collector at the prism pole for up to 300m (984 feet) communication. The total stations also have a fast and powerful EDM (electromagnetic distance mea22
surement) ability up to 1,000m (3,280 feet) with a small spot size. The DX 101 (for example) incorporates the company’s advanced angle encoder technology with exclusive calibration system. This is a best-of-class technology for angle accuracy, up to one second.
Sokkia SX total station series – The new definition of robotics Sokkia is redefining robotics with its SX series of total stations, a compact, lightweight system containing the most modern technology available in the marketplace today. COMPANY PROFILE • Mitsubishi Electric Power Products, Inc.
Sky High Customer Service T
housands of companies whose survival depends on stable IT environments rely on ViaWest’s 22 data centers and 13 network operations centers (NOCs) for rock-solid power delivery. When a critical uninterruptible power supply (UPS) made by a competitor failed at one of ViaWest’s data centers in Dallas, ViaWest engineers instantly huddled with the manufacturer’s rep and maintenance provider. How long would it take to send repair parts and get the UPS up and running? ViaWest’s power service level agreements with leading customers were at stake, but the manufacturer couldn’t commit to a delivery date. Dave Leonard, ViaWest’s SVP for Data Center Operations, had had enough. It was Thursday evening when he knew that the necessary parts could be weeks in the future. He called Mitsubishi UPS Division General Manager Dean Datre, reached him in Los Angeles, and explained that he
needed a complete replacement UPS right away. By 7 a.m. Friday, a new 9900B system was leaving the Mitsubishi plant near Pittsburgh, with two drivers in the truck cab. Nineteen hours later, the UPS was in Dallas. And less than 48 hours after Leonard made his call, ViaWest had the unit unloaded, installed, tested, and on-line. “It’s amazing enough that the GM of a major manufacturer would be available at all hours on his cell phone,” says Leonard. “But that he’d drop everything while he was at a conference, take a machine out of inventory, and put it on a truck with no more than a verbal agreement is an extraordinary example of service. We have a lot of very good suppliers, but I can’t think of any other who would have made the decision so quickly and expedited it so thoroughly. Nobody else would have been even close. The moment I decided we had to replace the machine, there was no question that we’d call Mitsubishi.” ❏
About the 9900B Series UPS
About ViaWest
Until now, UPS topology selection or mission-critical applications has been a trade-off between availability and efficiency. Online double-conversion technology was ideal for super-reliable protection, but not as efficient as riskier off-line standby designs. Now Mitsubishi eliminates the element of compromise with the 9900B Series, a true on-line UPS system that operates at high efficiencies, with superior reliability and performance, no mater what the load.
ViaWest is one of the largest privately held data center service providers in North America. They provide co-location, complex hosting, cloud, and managed services to businesses of all sizes nationwide. ViaWest owns and operates 22 enterprise-class data center facilities in Colorado, Texas, Oregon, Utah, and Nevada, delivering highquality, flexible solutions designed to support customers’ unique business needs.
“When can we get our repair parts?” – The competition wasn’t making any promises.
An entire new Mitsubishi 9900B 750KVA UPS System was shipped cross-country overnight. “Just a momentary power blip, and a lot of processing would have gone down for our largest customer, a cloud service provider. Mitsubishi’s fast response kept the customer’s comfort level sky high.” – Dave Leonard, SVP for Data Center Operations, ViaWest

COMPANY PROFILE • HB Brackets®
Labor Saving Electrical Brackets
H
B Brackets was established in Oklahoma City in May 2009. Initially, working with local customers, we later expanded into other areas across the nation due to a great response from customers for our electrical bracket products. Our innovative new T-5 and T8 fluorescent high-bay fixture brackets, along with conduit installation, have been developed for different types of applications such as warehouses and large commercial retail buildings. Large facilities such as warehouses and commercial retail buildings make it difficult to install and level this type of fluorescent lighting. Typically they are installed with chains or cables, which can lead to the fixtures swinging or misalignment. HB Brackets has created an innovative solution to this typical problem created from outdated installation techniques. Our patent pending design ensures that lighting fixtures are level, and installation is quick and easy. Our brack-
42
ets are self-leveling, which not only makes your facility more attractive with consistent lighting placement, but is also very time-effective. This makes bracket installation much faster than other methods of installing these fixtures. Installation is a simple one person process that saves time and manpower; our brackets can take less than half the time to install than other methods. HB Brackets meets or exceeds all NEC code requirements, meaning our products meet strict standards for safe installation. We not only provide lighting brackets for warehouses and retail buildings, but have built custom light brackets for highway projects, which include brackets for walking lights under new highways. We can provide custom design for any type of application. HB Brackets are made in the USA from 18 gauge galvanized metal to help eliminate screws from stripping out, and provide the most long term and durable lighting bracket on the market.
Electrical Products & Solutions • April 2013
HB Brackets has developed a new line of conduit and box mounting brackets to save time. Conduit has long been valued as the neatest and most organized type of electrical installation; today more and more people are turning to the use of other means of wiring. Our new bracket line has been designed to allow electricians a way to easily install conduit in commercial buildings above office walls, and along warehouse walls without the need of a box offset. The bracket allows the box to be mounted in a vertical position to easily pull wire from below. HB Brackets also offers an accessory for extending a box on corrugated walls to eliminate box offsets. We know the importance of saving time during electrical installation, and it is our goal to continue to design innovative products that save labor on installation. For more information about HB Brackets, and our innovative line of products, visit us online at www.hbbrackets.com. ❏

American Pipe and Plastics— Quality and Service at Competitive Prices Who We Are American Pipe and Plastics, Inc. manufactures PVC (polyvinyl chloride) for the Power Utility, Telecommunications, Cable TV, and Fiber Optic underground infrastructure markets. Their products are sold to power utility companies, telephone companies, CATV companies, distributors and contractors. Products are manufactured to meet NEMA TC2, NEMA TC3, NEMA TC6/8 EB/DB, NEMA TC9, NEMA TC10, ASTM F512, and UL 651 specifications. As required, products are tested and approved by numerous utilities, agencies, and the government. For 35 years, they have been supplying products at competitive prices while exceeding industry service levels. All products manufactured by American Pipe and Plastics are manufactured in the USA using domestically produced raw materials.
Known for Efficiency, Flexibility, and Tenacity Although original target markets were plumbing and municipal markets, throughout the years American Pipe and Plastics has diversified its product lines. Since it’s inception American Pipe and Plastics has serviced the RBOCs (Bell Operating Companies) supplying millions of feet of conduit and fittings for underground infrastructure to support the land lines and later to take cable to cell towers. During the “Dot.Com” boom American Pipe provided thousands of miles of conduit and fiber optic conduit systems to companies across the United States to build the underground infrastructure for fiber optic networks. In 1996 the company changed its focus, discontinuing the manufacture of pipes for the municipal markets and refocusing towards a product offering more synergistic with their Telecommunications products, targeting the utility markets by adding Power Utility and CATV conduit and fabricated accessories to its telephone conduit line. After the change in focus and product offering American Pipe and Plastics quickly became a valued supplier to many of the power utilities throughout the East Coast region of the US. In 2011 UL listed electrical conduit and accessories were added to complete the PVC conduit products used in the Power Utility, Electrical, and Telecommunications markets. Power utility companies, telephone companies, and CATV companies use American Pipe and Plastics’ products. Products go to market through distribution, direct contracts with utilities and direct sales to contractors. Products are manufactured to meet NEMA TC2, NEMA TC3, NEMA TC6/8 EB/DB, NEMA TC9, NEMA TC10, ASTM F512, and UL 651 specifications. the government. For over a decade a 98.6% On Time/In Full delivery rating has been maintained across all product lines. Sufficient inventory levels are maintained to meet customer requirements. American Pipe and Plastic is a small company compared to others in the industry, but that is one of its greatest assets. As a small company, we have a greater ability to react quickly to changing customer demands and changes within the market. Close communication between the manufacturing division and sales division allows us to “do what we need to do to service our customer.” For 35 years, the company has continued to respond to the volatility of raw material pricing and rapidly changing economic conditions.
A Tradition of Manufacturing Excellence The company’s management is experienced, dedicated, steady and competent. Senior management has a combined experience of over 100 years in manufacturing. A culture of openness and mutual respect promotes the exchange of ideas between management and labor. Corporate offices are located on the mezzanine floor overlooking the production floor. It is a short walk up or down a staircase to communicate changes in customer requirements or to discuss production issues. Communications flow smoothly between the different departments. Middle management averages 18+ years and the line workers average 14+ years at American Pipe & Plastics. Employees at all levels feel a responsibility for day-to-day operations, the welfare of fellow employees, and the company’s continuing success.
Where to Find Us American Pipe and Plastics, incorporated in New York State in 1977, is an American-owned WBE (Women’s Business Enterprise). It is a privately owned, closely held corporation. Located in Kirkwood, NY, south of Binghamton, at the junction of I88, I81, and I86 (formerly NYS Rte. 17), the manufacturing facility offers easy access to highways for shipping east, west, north and south. The New York State “Southern Tier” is a natural fit for a PVC manufacturing plant because the area has a long history of supporting manufacturing companies with a local workforce who offer loyalty and a solid work ethic. A philosophy of teamwork and flexibility is apparent when talking to American Pipe and Plastics employees. A deep pride in the company and its history pervade the organization.
