IMC IMC, a global technology-driven trading firm, selected SCB to renovate and expand their offices and create a new workplace that would reflect and support the company’s staff and forward-thinking culture. A new reception area takes it’s design cues from the hospitality market, featuring iconic European lounge pieces and a coffee bar. Working within Willis Tower, the design team embraced the structural challenges of the building, incorporating and featuring the columns and large trusses as part of the design. Adjacent to reception is a large training center which opens up to a pre-function space through a series of custom pivoting wall panels. A beautiful wood feature stair connects the new floor to the renovated trading floor above. The design supports IMC’s collaborative workplace by offering a variety of informal meeting spaces for group work with ample writeable surfaces, such as conference room walls, for idea sharing and problem solving. The new space also offers a unique set of amenities designed to specifically support the screen-focused work on the trading floor. Two technology-free lounges are provided as a space to unplug and reset, while a wellness suite composed of a mother’s room, prayer/mediation room, massage room, and headache recovery room provide more private spaces for retreat. Hinshaw & Culbertson SCB’s relationship with Hinshaw & Culbertson spans over 15 years, having designed over 20 office locations for the national law firm. SCB’s design concept for Hinshaw’s new Chicago office was to create a space that reflects the duality of Hinshaw’s identity as a law practice: an established firm with a contemporary sensibility. As the first Hinshaw location to utilize universal-sized offices, this project reflects a new era in planning for the firm. This change allows for greater efficiency throughout the space and creates flexibility to accommodate future growth. The interior design for the space capitalizes on the panaramic views to the city and Lake Michigan. Each view from the floor-to-ceiling glass expanse are captivating and dynamic pieces of art that constantly change throughout the day and year. In the client-facing areas of the office, a timeless palette of materials including calacatta borghini marble, warm woods, and steel paired with contemporary furnishings evoke a sense of urban hospitality. 210 N. Carpenter 210 North Carpenter is a 12-story speculative, creative office building in Chicago’s Fulton Market district. Located on a site that was previously home to Foote Brothers, an aircraft motor company in the 1920s, the interior design for the building was inspired by the notions of movement and flight, with a nod to the classical traditions of aviation design. Materials such as cold-rolled steel and exposed concrete floors combine with rivet details, aerodynamicformed ceiling lights, turnbuckles, and large-scale abstracted images of airplane parts throughout the lobby and public spaces. An amenity floor is located on the 10 th floor of the building and features a large tenant bar and lounge area. The centerpiece of the design is a custom, curated artifact wall displaying various objects found and collected from sites developed by the client across the city. Steel posts salvaged from the project site serve as a sculptural screening element between the lounge and conference center. A Nanawall opens up to connect the indoors to a large outdoor terrace. A fitness center, yoga studio, locker rooms and a two-lane indoor lap pool round out the building’s one-of-a-kind amenity program. Location Size

111 S. Wacker With the modern office-user in mind, SCB designed three floors of unparalleled amenity space at 111 South Wacker, a Class-A office tower in Chicago’s Loop. The design for the spaces are highly influenced by a hospitality approach, emphasizing layers, texture, and a mix of industrial and natural materials to create a sophisticated, yet comfortable atmosphere. The 10 th and 11 th floors focus on wellness and feature a renovated and expanded fitness center with a steam room, yoga studio, golf simulator, and shuffleboard. The 11 th floor also hosts a large, tenant lounge and coffee bar designed with oversized pendant lighting, custom-made built-in banquettes, and an exposed wood ceiling. An interconnecting stair adds visual interest and an openness to the space, and also facilitates interaction between the two floors. The 29 th floor is home to a 400-seat doubleheight, conference space. Inspired by the evening city lights, SCB selected back-lit perforated ceiling panels to create a soft lighting solution for the space. Stepped wall panels with cove lighting accentuate the high ceilings while creating visual movement and a dramatic impact. During the warmer months, tenants can take advantage of an outdoor terrace with expansive views of downtown. Location Size

Valvoline SCB completed the architectural and interior design for a new headquarters for Valvoline. The building was designed to celebrate the company’s 150-year heritage as a leader in racing while simultaneously capturing the future of their technology and product innovation. The approach for the interior design focused on supporting the growing company by creating a unique, open, and flexible workplace. The V-shaped floor plan for the building, coupled with narrow floorplates, ensures that all workstations have access to natural light. A glass connector between the two office bars serves as the social hub for the building, providing meeting rooms, breakout spaces, a pantry on each floor, the formal entry lobby on the ground floor, and an interconnecting open stair extending through all four floors of the building. The double-height lobby highlights Valvoline’s history and innovations in engine performance; flanking the lobby are the building’s shared amenity spaces including a cafeteria, fitness center, and conference/training center. Motorola Solutions SCB completed the interior design and renovation for Motorola Solutions’ mission-critical communications and engineering business units. The project scope included programming for the 900-employee business units; renovating dining and fitness facilities; and creating new lab, data, classroom, and training facilities. The main objectives for the project were to modernize the workplace, connect and engage employees, emphasize employee health and wellness, and promote the brand through design. Throughout the new work and amenity spaces, custom branding and graphics communicate the organization’s mission and core values. The re-designed cafeteria contains an expanded servery and dining area with both traditional café and bar seating as well as flexible, nontraditional communal seating areas. This variety of seating promotes the use of the café area throughout the entire workday for informal meetings. The updated fitness center includes a group fitness room, yoga room, and large locker rooms with showers. Location Size

Corptax After completing the company’s downtown Chicago office, SCB was engaged to design Corptax’s new headquarters office. The client wanted a modern workplace that helped break down silos and encourage collaboration and communication between departments. The plan for the new space is zoned into quadrants and organized by department, with each quadrant having access to a shared teaming area and conference rooms. There are no assigned private offices; rather, the limited offices located at the interior of the floor are available on a hoteling basis for those needing quite workspace. Open work stations feature sit-to-stand desks, while teaming areas offer a variety of seating styles and postures, including hightop work tables and moveable furniture. The new office design features exposed concrete, bright pops of color, and vibrant geometric patterns, creating an industrial yet playful feel throughout the space. A unique metal ceiling accent acts as a wayfinding element and connects the elevator lobby with the workspace areas. Location Size
