Are you... compassionate?

loving? caring?

We are looking for people like you to foster a child in need. Get in touch to find out how you could change a child's life forever.

ACTION FOR CHILDREN What if… you could foster? Action For Children are encouraging anyone who’s considered fostering to reach out and have a chat with their friendly recruitment team. The fostering service provides long term fostering for young people aged 5+ and aims to provide safe, secure and stable family environments so that the young person can experience a positive model of life for the future. Many people think they need to have special qualifications to foster – that’s just a myth. Your experience can come from just being a parent, or even caring for children in your family, like your nieces or nephews, friends’ children. Here’s what Shirley says about her journey to become a foster carer with Action For Children:

“ Before I became a Foster Carer I had a variety of different jobs. When I was 26 my 13 year old nephew came to live with us which was when I got to experience what it’s like to be caring for a young person. After supporting him into his 20’s and seeing the success he made of his life, it prompted me into fostering”.

Request your information pack today by calling 0141 222 1770 or emailing fostercare.caps@actionforchildren.org.uk You can also visit www.actionforchildren.org.uk/fostering

GO SAFE GLASGOW Cycling in Glasgow

For many of us, Spring and Summer is when we think about shaking off the cobwebs of Winter and plan to get more active and fitter. With the nicer weather and longer days what better way to ease yourself into a healthier you than via cycling? Cycling in Glasgow has never been easier. The number of cycle routes are growing and include family friendly segregated and off road routes in the North, South, East, and West of the city. Leisure cycling is also growing with projects being developed to link up our park areas. Seven Lochs Wetland Park provides routes between Hogganfield Park and Drumpellier Park as well as other less known areas and are perfect for observing the wildlife that surrounds us. These routes are perfect for mountain bikes but equally ridable on hybrid or road bikes fitted with suitable tyres. Visit Seven Lochs If you choose to ditch the car, bus or train in favour of the bike, even for just a couple of days a week, you’ll find that the new City Ways, segregated routes such as the West City Way and South West City Way, provide a direct and safe way of getting to and from the city. These routes have been designed with all users in mind and provide a safe and rapid way of travelling by bike whether you are an experienced cyclist or are just getting started. Visit Glasgow Cycling

If you don’t have a bike, Glasgow has one of the best cycle hire schemes in the UK. The bikes are easy to use and there are over 50 docking stations across the city, many at popular tourist destinations such as the Riverside Museum and Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum. The hire bikes can also be found at universities, George Square and other key locations across the city to support resident, student and business travel. Visit Nextbike Once in the city you will find no lack of on street cycle parking to safely and securely park your bike. Glasgow has been working to create a safer city centre with reduced a speed limit of 20 mph and safer driving campaigns. Cycling in the city feels more relaxed than in many other big cities and whilst certain streets, such as Union St, function as arterial travel routes for our bus services, improved timetabling and arrangement of bus stops mean that the streets flow more efficiently, are cleaner and feel quieter for cyclists.
