NATIONAL MUSEUMS LIVERPOOL Imagine Christmas with National Museums Liverpool For fun days out for all the family this festive season, Imagine Christmas with National Museums Liverpool. With eight museums and galleries across Merseyside, there’s sure to be something for everyone to get involved in – and there’s cafes and shops too where you can enjoy a hot drink and a piece of cake, or pick up some unique Christmas gifts. UNITY THEATRE Unity Theatre Announces Christmas Show Unity Theatre is delighted to welcome acclaimed theatre company, Theatre-Rites, to Liverpool this year with its production Beasty Baby. Unity’s Christmas performance, Beasty Baby, is a fun, affordable alternative to pantomime. It is a funny and magical mix of puppetry and live music that’s the perfect festive treat for all the family. Set in a small hut in a wintry wood in a very cold land, the arrival of a child is eagerly awaited. But Beasty Baby is nothing like anyone expected. About This winter everyone’s favourite enchanting Christmas Ice Festival returns for another year, as Liverpool’s iconic Pier Head is transformed into a winter wonderland. It features Liverpool’s biggest ever ice slide and a huge covered outdoor rink giving skaters the chance to glide in style with a stunning backdrop of the world famous Three Graces. RECYCLE RIGHT Recycle Right and stop clothes and textiles going to waste Recycle Right – an initiative led by Merseyside Recycling and Waste Authority (MRWA) to boost recycling – is targeting these materials as research shows that around 18,000 tonnes of textiles goes into people’s bins each year in the Liverpool City Region. As well as preventing textiles from ending up in the bin, the new campaign wants to provide people with ideas for giving items a second lease of life. Before you throw something away and buy new have you thought through all your options? UPCYCLE, RECYCLE, RE-FASHION, REUSE • Buying new clothes: buy better made clothes that are easy to care for and made to last. Did you know that in the UK around 300,000 tonnes of unwanted clothing gets thrown away every year? • Care and Repair: can you repair an item instead of throwing it away? It’ll keep your clothes and textiles looking great and will save you cash too. • Refashion and Upcycle: think an item is due for an upgrade? Look online and find inspiring ways
to create a fresh look from the things you already have. • Unwanted textiles: find the things you no longer want a new home by selling, swapping or giving to charity. Clothing, carpets, blankets, rugs – love your look then pass it on. Councillor Tony Concepcion, Chairperson of MRWA, said: “ There is a problem with high quantities of textiles such as clothes, curtains and bedding being placed in recycling and household waste bins. We don’t want textiles in recycling bins because they can’t go through the sorting and separating machinery with other recyclable items such as bottles and paper. “ Furthermore, we don’t want textiles in household waste bins because that is just a waste of material resources which could be used again. Keep textiles out of your bin – use recycling bring banks, charity shops, charitable door to door collections, reuse them, give them away or even sell them.” Liverpool Loves Christmas

ST. HELENS THEATRE ROYAL Strictly Star Robin Windsor stars in Aladdin Families are invited on a magical carpet ride this Christmas as Aladdin flies into St Helens Theatre Royal, starring Strictly Come Dancing star Robin Windsor. Regal Entertainments spectacular family panto will whisk audiences off to Old Peking for a genie-us adventure, featuring amazing 3D special effects, laughter, music and comedy. Cheer on Aladdin as he battles the evil Abanazer and his dastardly plan to rule the world with the help of a very special lamp. With larger-than-life washerwoman mum Widow Twankey, hapless Wishee Washee, the Genie of the Lamp, Slave of the Ring and a beautiful princess, this is a show full of eastern promise. Robin, as Aladdin, is joined by Olivia Sloyan as Princess Jasmine, Philip McGuinness as the villainous Abanazer, Scott Gallagher as Wishee Washee, Jenna-Sian O’Hara as the Slave of the Ring and Kai Jolley as the Genie of the Lamp. Of course, no St Helens Theatre Royal panto
is complete without its resident dame and the hilarious Si Foster is up to his usual comedy capers as Widow Twankey. Strictly star Robin’s dance career began aged three, when his parents enrolled him in dance lessons. He has represented England domestically and internationally in both ballroom and Latin and has starred in and toured with the ground-breaking and critically acclaimed dance show Burn The Floor, with which he toured the globe; appearing on Broadway and the West End. Robin joined the BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing in 2010, where his partners included Anita Dobson, Patsy Kensit, Lisa Riley, and Deborah Meaden.
