The Steamie is coming to The SSE HYDRO in December 2019 and it’s going to be bigger, better and STEAMIER than ever! With a fantastic live band, 1950s dancehall scenes, great new songs and all your favourite characters, Tony Roper’s Scottish classic is really going LARGE thi time with more cast, more music, more songs and more laughs than ever before.

Travel back with us to 1950’s Glasgow and re-live your favourite Steamie stories with Dolly, Magrit, Doreen and Mrs Culfeathers as they all get their washing done before the Hogmanay bells. Don’t miss this all-singing, all-dancing Steamie spectacular, designed specifically for The SSE Hydro - 6 performances ONLY.

Tony Roper tells us all about creating a Scottish comedy classic and ‘going large’ with his all-new Steamie spectacular at the SSE Hydro in December. In my late forties I sat down with a biro and a jotter and wrote my first ever play. Over thirty years have since passed and The Steamie is still there, giving laughter and tears and touching that intangible something in an audience that over the decades has made it the nation’s favourite night out! The first time we ever did The Steamie was at the Crawford Theatre. It held 300 and I was absolutely petrified that it wouldn’t go down well. Beyond all hopes, it grew and grew and grew and now we’re presenting it at the SSE Hydro, Scotland’s biggest entertainment venue. To add to the experience on personal level, on 19 September 1995 I was one of the people who put the first spade in the place where the famous Armadillo now stands!

We have also designed a brand new, bigger set with lots of surprises popping up throughout the show. One of them will surely be our live band and dancers re-enacting the 50s ballroom dances! You have to come and see it - I promise you won’t forget this show, ever. The Steamie runs 27 - 31 December at the SSE Hydro. Visit www.thesteamieplay.com to book tickets or call the SSE Hydro ticket hotline on 0844 395 4000.

We want to take our audiences back in time to Glasgow in the 50s. We want to give them a unique experience of The Steamie, nothing like they have seen before! We want to fill their heads with wonder and laughter. In order to do that, we have assembled an inspiring cast, including The Dolls aka Louise McCarthy and Gayle Telfer Stevens, marking their Steamie debut as Magrit and Dolly, Fiona Wood and Mary McCusker returning to the show as Doreen and Mrs Culfeathers and last but not least, Harry Ward portraying the drunk handyman Andy.

music, special effects and bundles of audience participation in this GIANT of a pantomime. Theatre Royal’s Christmas show this year is Queen’s smash hit musical We Will Rock You. 24 of Queen’s greatest hits are delivered in a show that boasts the scale and spectacle that marked the band’s legendary live performances. princessquare.co.uk

Lights Switch On Sunday 17th November

Choirs Mornings & afternoons daily throughout December

PRINCES SQUARE A visit to Princes Square is a wonderful experience throughout the year but a festive visit is a little bit extra special. With its stunning Christmas decorations that are always the talk of the town, its wonderful restaurants and bars and, of course, its unique shopping environment with many exclusive retailers, Princes Square is on the ‘must do’ list for Glaswegians and visitors to the city alike. The popular switch on of the spectacular Christmas lights on the 17th of November will see Santa visiting the centre’s restaurants to meet guests and Christmas craft sessions will run throughout the day. But the reasons for a visit (or visits!) over the festive period don’t end there. What is Christmas without a trip to the cinema with friends and family? Boutique cinema operator Everyman, located next to the centre’s courtyard, will make a movie day something very special with its three intimate screens, luxurious settings with large, comfortable seats and a popular bar serving food and drink. And if gin is your thing, then who else but Eden Mill to make your visit better? The popular Blendworks experience – where you can make your very own gin – is right next to the first ever Jax by Eden Mill bar in Scotland. If fizz for lunch or a cool DJ playing and sipping cocktails in the evening is your thing then add it to the ‘shopping list’.

When it comes to shopping and fashion - perhaps it’s a gift for under your Christmas tree or a treat just for you - then Princes Square is hard to beat. Recent arrivals, Kate Spade New York, the international fashion and lifestyle accessory retailer, and Orkney jewellery designer Sheila Fleet complement other exciting brands like Vivienne Westwood, Space NK, Reiss, and COS. Restaurant Bar & Grill, October Café, and Barca make lunch and evenings special, and everyone’s long-standing favourites, Il Pavone and D’Arcys are always ready to make visitors welcome. Don’t forget to pop into Hotel Chocolat’s first cocoa bar cafe in the city, after all who doesn’t like a piece of indulgent chocolate? Officially named as ‘Scotland’s Favourite Building’ by a public vote run by The Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland in 2016, Princes Square is home over 25 retailers and 12 eateries, and located in the heart of the city’s bustling Buchanan Street. If you’re a lover of high street and designer fashion, beauty, jewellery, and lifestyle brands and enjoy relaxing with a drink and delicious food then a Christmas visit to Princes Square is essential.
