ANOTHER LEAF SHAWL by Po Lena NOTES The shawl is knitted from top centre. The pattern is charted. Four increases on RS create a triangular shape; Increases on each side of central st and next to edge sts ARE shown on charts. 2 edge sts and center stitch are NOT charted but worked on every row. 2 edge sts on either side are kept in garter st throughout the pattern. The charts show only RS rows. On WS all sts except for 2 edge sts on either side are purled. The pattern repeats are shown in frames.

SIZE Sample shown 200 cm along shoulder edge/ 100 cm along back spine Can be resized by varying the number of pattern repeats or worked in a different gauge by changing yarn weight and needles.

MATERIALS Yarn and yardage 65 - 100 g of Lace / 2 ply yarn (875 yards / 100 grams) approx. 570 – 870 yards suggested choice Artistic 8/1 by Aade Lõng Lace / 2 ply 100% Wool

Needles circular needles US 4 (3.5 mm) 40” (100 cm) or longer Notions crochet hook 4 mm scrap yarn tapestry needle

DIRECTIONS Garter tab: With crochet hook and scrap yarn, ch 4 stitches. Take the working yarn and pick up and knit 2 sts into back loops of 2 centre chains. Knit 7 rows. Turn the work 90 degrees and pick up 1 stitch in each of three garter ridges. Turn the work 90 degrees again. Carefully unravel the crochet chain and pick up and knit the two live stitches (7 sts). Knit 1 row.

Row 1: k 2, work Row 1 of Set-Up Chart, k 1 for center st, work Row 1 of Set-Up Chart, k 2 Row 2: k 2, p to last 2 sts, k 2 Cont as set, ending with Row 32. Work Rows 1-24 of Body Chart once or make more reps for larger shawl. Work Rows 1-24 of Border Chart twice. Work Rows 1-8 of Edging Chart once.

Bind off loosely from RS as foll: K1, *k1, slip the 2 st sts from right-hand needle to left-hand needle and k2tog through back loops; rep from * to end. Or use your preferred method for BO.

Finishing Soak the shawl in lukewarm water with some detergent, rinse. Wrap the shawl in a towel to squeeze out the excess water. Block to shape. Weave in all loose ends.
