Gia fingerless gloves

Yarn:

Any fingering weight yarn.

Needles:

3 mm – US 2.

Gauge:

12 stitches and 18 rows = 5x5 cm / 2x2 inches in stockinette stitch. In case the yarn overs are not visible enough, consider using yotwice (wrap the yarn twice around the needle) to have a larger hole.

Size:

Wrist is 10/12 cm (4-5 inches) which fits a small female hand. As gauge can vary greatly on an item this size, check the fit in advance.

Right hand:

Cast on 36 stitches. Join to work in the round. Work 10 rows in *k2, p2* rib. Start pattern, which is worked in multiples of 8 rows: Row 1: Purl 7, knit 3, k2tog, k4, yo, purl to the end of the row. Row 2, 4, 6 and 8: Purl 7, knit 9, purl to the end of the row. Row 3: Purl 7, knit 2, k2tog, k4, yo, k1, purl to the end of the row. Row 5: Purl 7, knit 1, k2tog, k4, yo, k3, purl to the end of the row. Row 7: Purl 7, k2tog, k4, yo, k3, purl to the end of the row. Repeat pattern 5 times (for the length you see in the pictures, or enough repeats to reach desired length). On row 1 of the 6th repeat start thumb gusset: After motif, purl 7, pm, purl front and back, purl 2, purl front and back, pm. The standard thumb increase row will therefore be: work to marker, purl front and back, purl to last stitch before marker, purl front and back, finish row. Work this increase row 1 in 2 rows (when you work the lace motif) until you have 16 stitches between markers (2 rd hole of the 2nd motif repeat – that is to say 3rd row of the 2nd motif repeat), then go on without increasing and simply purling between markers until you finish the motif, plus 2 lace holes of the next motif

repeat (this means the 4th row of the 8th repeat). At the 3rd lace hole row of the 8th motif, put stitches between markers on a stitch holder. Complete 8th and 9th lace pattern repeat, finish with 5 (or desired number) rows of *k2, p2* rib, bind off. Finish thumb: pick up and purl 16 stitches from holder, purl 5 rows. Rib *k2, p2* for 3 rows – on the 1st rib row, k first 2 stitches tog and purl last 2 stitches tog (14 stitches in rib portion). Bind off. (The ribbing prevents the reverse stockinette fabric from curling inwards).

Left hand:

Row 2, 4, 6 and 8: Purl 7, knit 9, purl to the end of the row. Row 3: Purl 7, knit 1, yo, k4, ssk, k2, purl to the end of the row. Row 5: Purl 7, k2, yo, k4, ssk, k1, purl to the end of the row. Row 7: Purl 7, k3, yo, k4, ssk, purl to the end of the row. Repeat pattern 5 times (for the length you see in the pictures, or enough repeats to reach desired length). On row 1 of the 6th repeat start thumb gusset: After motif, purl to 4 stitches before marker, pm, purl front and back, purl 2, purl front and back of last stitch of row.
