Finished size after blocking: 45 cm. (17 in) in the central or middle point x 150 cm. (59 in) inside the wingspan Materials 420 m. (460 yards) of any DK yarn of your choice. Recommended needle sizes: Circular knitting needle 5.0 mm.(US 8), 0,80 (32 in.) or longer and 5.5 mm (US 9), 0.80 (32 in) or longer (always use a needle size that gives you the gauge listed below -- every knitter's gauge is unique) stitch markers (at least 8) crochet hook 3.5 mm (US 20 g.(0,05 pounds) seed beads 5/0 (optional) Fine sewing needle and fine dental floss or a crochet hook 0,75 mm.(US 12) for placing beads (optional) rust-proof pins (for blocking) Stitches • Garter stitch: knit every row • Stockinet stitch: knit on right rows, purl on wrong rows • Nupp with 7 stitches: in the same stitch: (k1, yo) x 3 , k1. Next row (wrog side) purl these 7 stitches together. (I used this method) -1-

The shawl is knitted in one piece using circular knitting needles (back and forward) and in 2 (two) steps, without breaking the yarn: Step 1: triangular base shaped with short rows. Step 2: lace edge by picking up stitches

Charts shall be read from right to left. Only the odd rows are shown in the charts. On even rows you knit over the knit stitches and purl over the purl stitches. YO (yarn over)are purled on even rows.

Place stitch markers before and after each chart repeat

Chart 1 is split into 2 parts: 1a, 1b. The numbers shown on the bottom of the chart do not represent the stitch count. Print and overlap 1a and 1b. This will give you the complete chart 1. 2. On row 40 set 2 stitch markers: before and after the 19 stitches in the center of the row. 3. After row 40 you have 81 stitches on your needles. Next row: start the shaping with short rows on the right side of the shawl as follows: Row 1 (rs): k1, yo, k1, yo., k30, turn, Row 2 (ws): (slip 1 purlwise+yo), p33. Row 3 (rs): k1, yo, k1, yo.; m29, turn, Row 4 (ws): (slip 1 purlwise+yo), p32. Row 5 (rs): k1, yo, k1, yo.; m28, turn, Row 6 (ws): (slip 1 purlwise+yo), p31. Repeat rows 1-2 knitting one stitch less on each odd row until you have 5 stitches on your right needle (including k1, yo, k1, yo) and purl the 5 stitches. Knit one row until the last 2 stitches (do not forget to knit the stitch+yo to close the gap). Finish the row with yo, k1, yo k1. Next row: start the shaping with short rows on the left side of the shawl as follows: Row 1 (rs): p34, turn Row 2 (ws): (slip 1 purlwise+yo), k31, yo; k1; yo, k1 Row 3 (rs): p33, turn Row 4 (ws): (slip 1 purlwise+yo), k30; yo; k1; yo, k1 Row 5 (rs): p32, turn Row 6 (ws): (slip 1 purlwise+yo), k29, yo; k1; yo, k1 Repeat rows 1-2 knitting one stitch less on each odd row until you have 5 stitches on your right needle (including k1, yo, k1, yo) and purl the 5 stitches. Purl 1 row over all stitches (do not forget to purl the yo + stitch to close the gap). At the end of the short rows you have 201 stitches on your needles. Knit 4 rows more and bind off 200 sts. Leave 1 st. on your needles and do not break the yarn 4. Set up for Chart 2 Change to 5.5 mm. (US 9) With right side facing upward pick up and knit as follows 100 sts. along the left side to center: 2 sts. on the garter stitch side and than, yo, * (k1, yo)* using as reference the ‘holes’ from the yarn overs (97 sts. raised using the k1, yo) On the 5 cast-on stitches: k1 in the 1st. stitch, k1 in the 2nd stitch, 1k1 in the 4th stitch an k1 in the 5th. stitch. 100 sts. from the center to right side: Start with yo, * (k1, yo) * . Pick up and knit 3 sts. along the garter stitch edge At the end of this row you will have 204 stitches (100+4+100) -5-


How to pick up and knit the stitches

Start and finish every row with k3. Purl 1 row (ws)

On next row increase 17 sts. as follow: • right side – [(k6, M1), (k5, M1)] x 6 times, (k6, M1) x 5 times, k6., place marker) • left side - k6; (M1, k6) x 5 times, [(M1, k5), (M1, k6)] x 6 times At the end of this row you have 238 sts. on your needles On next WS row: k3, p2tog., p110, purl 2tog., p4., p2tog. , p110, p2tog., k3. You now have 234 sts. on your needles
