Context Brixton Village is Brixton's new and highly popular restaurant scene, and also home to a variety of international restaurants, quirky and individual shops. Originally known as Granville Arcade, Brixton Village was built in the 1920s. It was a huge part of Afro-Caribbean community in Brixton during the 1950s and onwards. Brixton Village is described as a 'culinary and cultural hub' Brief or Tasks Brixton Village is the place to go for foods from around the world. Described as colourful and eclectic, Brixton Village attracts customers from a wide variety of backgrounds.; there is something for everyone. Design a publication that illustrates the transformation from Granville Arcade to Brixton Village. Include information on the history of Brixton Village. The publication should act as an informative guide showing the journey from dilapidated arcade to a popular middle-class haunt. Throughout the publication, explore the use of photography. Experiment with type and layout. Preparation/Research suggestions For initial research, carry out research into Granville Arcade. Research the purpose of the arcade and the general target audience at the time. Compare and contrast this to the current target audience of Brixton Village. Research and look into the theme of gentrif ication. Relate this theme to Brixton, and more specif ically Brixton Village. Primary research will involve photographing Brixton Village. These photographs should be suitable for use within the publication. Carry out interviews with local people; predominantly local shop owners and Brixton's inhabitants. Gain an understanding on local views of Brixton Village and its impact on the local community. Evidence – for this project students should submit Regularly updated blog posts of research, investigations, interviews Photographic timeline of transformation Photography of Brixton Village presently Research into publication and editorial design Typography, colour scheme research into Brixton Village. The publication should fit into the design of Brixton Village.
