Summer holidays are here and people are flocking to the South Coast to enjoy everything this spectacular region has to offer. You won’t be disappointed! See our Summer Holiday Fun feature (p2-3) for just some of the holiday fun on offer, but for the coolest thing to do this summer, get onto the ice at Shoalhaven Entertainment Centre’s Ice Escape from 9-25 January. If you want to walk on water without it being frozen, see pages 41 and 48 for the action and excitement available with Walking On Water (WOW) Water Sports. For adventure on land try Segway Tours South Coast at Shellharbour’s Killalea State Park (p 9) or climb high above the ground at the new Trees Adventure Park, collocated with Shoalhaven Zoo (p27). January and February are brimming with events, festivals and shows to enjoy. Huskisson Carnival returns for
this 40th year (p3) while Kiama boasts the 166th annual Kiama Show, the Unique and Classic Car Show and the 23rd Antique and Collectables Fair (p13-14). Shoalhaven City Turf Club’s annual Family Day Out on 14 January at Archer Racecourse also shouldn’t be missed. There’s a feast of live entertainment on offer with Bundanon Trust presenting Thelma Plum at its Riversdale Concert on 26 January and an impressive line up gracing the Milton Theatre stage (p42) along with other venues throughout the region. The Red Hot Summer Tour comes to Nowra’s Harry Sawkins Park on 9 February featuring Suzi Quatro, The Angels, Black Sorrows, Shannon Noll and Russell Morris (p22). Get in early to secure your tickets! With so much to do, you’re sure to have a great summer holiday! See you around the South Coast.

Safer this summer thanks to Australian Aerial Patrol
At the Roo Theatre this month
While you’re enjoying the South Coast’s beaches this summer, stop occasionally and look up! Chances are the Bendigo Bank Australian Aerial Patrol (AAP) is above helping to keep you safe in the water. Formed in 1957, the Bendigo Bank Aerial Patrol operates its Cessna, Partnavia and Piper Chieftain aircraft to maintain community safety and welfare through observation and support. For over 50 years this registered charity has conducted Illawarra, South Coast and Sydney beach patrols to assist life guards, surf life savers, police and marine rescue authorities throughout summer and until Easter. AAP supports all land and marine based emergency services in South East NSW, including Rural Fire Service firefighters during bushfires. The Aerial Patrol is funded by sponsorship from the Bendigo Bank, service clubs, local councils and the community. To support the Aerial Patrol via donation or merchandise purchase visit www.aerialpatrol.com.au Bendigo Bank Aerial Patrol pilots are trained by its commercial division, NSW Air, which also offers joy flights

Go to new heights with Trees Adventure in Nowra The whole family can enjoy the new Trees Adventure Park on the Shoalhaven River with courses for all ages and abilities (from 4 years old). Trees Adventure is Australia’s premier eco-adventure experience. Their parks feature exciting and challenging courses high in the tree canopy that will have you swinging, leaping, climbing and flying through the forest. Trees Adventure is the creation of French climber Nico Dansin and his business partner Marc Flaster. The duo adapted a popular European concept for Australia’s unique landscape, allowing thrill seekers and nature enthusiasts to experience the trees like never before. Flying foxes – the longest more than 100m – zip between the trees at frightening speeds, while cargo nets, rope bridges and wooden obstacles offer physical challenges high above the ground. There’s even an airborne skateboard!
The courses become increasingly difficult as you climb higher into the canopy, which means that you can find the right level to suit you. For the most adventurous (over 13) you can find yourself up 25 meters above the ground. Trees Adventure's Nowra Shoalhaven Park is their newest and consists of 6 courses, 77 challenges, 13 flying foxes and is the only park of its kind which includes cliffs in Australia.
Fully harnessed with state of the art equipment, this exciting yet safe experience will see you perched high above the spectacular scenery of the Shoalhaven River. Being co-located with the Shoalhaven Zoo you may also see an animal or two! Take the opportunity these school holidays to try this new and exhilarating experience. You can book your 2-hour trees adventure online at www.treesadventure.com.au

St Georges Basin - Sanctuary Point - Callala Bay - Callala Beach - Myola - Huskisson - Vincentia - Hyams Beach Jervis Bay measures about 15 km from north to south and about 10 km across. The main town is Huskisson, where you can enjoy dolphin and whale watching cruises, fishing trips and boats, but it’s the natural beauty of the area that seduces. Other towns in this area include St Georges Basin, Sanctuary Point, Callala Bay and Beach, Myola, Vincentia and Hyams Beach. The bay’s beaches are impressive -a series of scalloped coves bracketed by rock formations and backed by blackbutt, tea tree and mahogany forest. The bay’s sparkling waters, the underwater topography of arches, caves and rock stacks, and an impressive marine population make this one of the finest dive sites in the state. At its southern end, Jervis Bay is enclosed by Booderee National Park, a

pristine coastal wilderness. From Wreck Bay village on Summercloud Bay in the park’s south, a walking trail circles the peninsula to St Georges Head, passing quiet beaches, cliffs and forests Huskisson is the location of many facililties including the Lady Denman Maritime and Heritage Complex, as well as a variety of great cafes and shops to explore. Hyams Beach is surrounded by natural bush and is far enough removed from the ‘rat-race’ to be as peaceful a retreat as one can imagine with the added attractions of pure white sand and crystal clear water. The ‘island township’ of Sussex Inlet at the mouth of the estuary has everything the holidaymaker could want – fantastic accommodation, hire boats to explore the canals, extensive cycleways, clubs, shops, cafes and a cinema. A large variety of wild birds exist in the
area and kangaroos can be seen feeding on the lawns of the houses.
Swanhaven & Cudmirrah (Swan Lake) A short drive from Sussex Inlet, these villages offer a range of beach and lake activities. Swan haven and Cudmirrah border Swan Lake, a superb, safe, aquatic playground where you can paddle a canoe, go fishing, swim, sail, or enjoy sailboarding and waterskiing. Nearby Conjola National Park offers magnificent bushwalks, 4WD tracks, and picnic spots.
Berrara Berrara is surrounded by nature reserve, an extensive rock shelf for walking, fishing and exploring and a popular surfing beach. There is also a lagoon which offers a safe playgound for toddlers.
So much to do and explore, Sussex Inlet and surrounds provide an amazing outdoor wonderland.

Experience the delightful taste of fresh berries picked at the height of summer as Clyde River Berry Farm again opens its gates to the public during the months of December and January. Once you have your picking container, head for the ‘berries of the day’ in the ripest section of the farm and ‘hunt and gather’ to your heart’s content. Although primarily farming blueberries, you can also pick loganberries, strawberries, raspberries, boysenberries and more.
Once you’ve picked enough, your berries can be weighed, packaged, paid for and then... ENJOYED! Whether it’s for a holiday feast or to freeze them for later in the year, berry picking is a holiday activity that will be enjoyed by children and adults alike. Find Clyde River Berry Farm by turning west off the Princes Highway onto the Old Highway near the Bawley Point turnoff at Termeil. Follow the ‘Berry Farm’ signs, which will take you 12 kms along Sheeptrack Road towards Shallow Crossing, until you reach the farm gate. For more information call 4478 1057 or visit www.clyderiverberryfarm.com.au.
