Useful Information:

Walks are graded for difficulty as follows:

Most walks are free and do not need to be booked. Where there is a charge or booking is required, details are listed under each walk

•Beginners/Health Walk: A short walk under an hour suitable for everyone including those recovering from ill health or new to exercise. Not a guided walk, but accompanied by trained 'Walking For Health' volunteers.

Please wear suitable footwear and clothing and have a waterproof as the weather is often unpredictable. We reserve the right not to take a person who is not properly equipped Where dogs are allowed on a walk (see symbols below each walk), they must be kept on a lead to avoid inconvenience to other walkers or disturbance to farm animals or wildlife Most walk leaders are volunteers Remember to bring any medication you may need during the walk In poor weather the leader may modify the walk, or in extreme conditions cancel it You may need to bring a packed lunch (see symbols below each walk), and it is always advisable to carry a drink Walkers 16 and below must be accompanied by an adult All those taking part do so at their own risk Check the key to each walk to find out if the start point can be reached by public transport, and whether the walk is accessible for wheelchairs and pushchairs Walks will start promptly

FREE Prize Draw sponsored by Treasure Trails

•Easy Access: Suitable for everyone, including people with conventional wheelchairs and pushchairs. Assistance may be needed to push wheelchairs on some sections. •Easy: Walks for anyone who does not have a mobility difficulty or specific health problem, or is seriously unfit. Suitable for pushchairs if they can be lifted over occasional obstructions. •Leisurely: Walks for reasonably fit people with at least a little country walking experience, may include un-surfaced rural paths. Walking boots and warm, waterproof clothing recommended. •Moderate: Walks for people with country walking experience and a good level of fitness. May include some steep paths and open country, and may be at a brisk pace. Walking boots and warm, waterproof clothing essential. •Strenuous: Walks for experienced country walkers with an above average fitness level. May include hills and rough country, and may be at a brisk pace. Walking boots and warm, waterproof clothing essential.

Important: Grades are provided as a general guide: if you doubt your fitness for a walk please contact the organiser or leader in advance. Bear in mind the distance, regional differences in terrain, and the possibility of bad weather which can make a walk more difficult than planned. If unsure of your fitness level, try a short easy walk first: it's better to find a walk too slow and easy than to make yourself miserable and exhausted. Leaders may refuse participants who in their opinion are inadequately equipped or unfit. Please be advised walkers may be taking photographs on any of the festival walks, which may be entered for the photography competition and used in future publicity.

Calke Abbey a perfect day out for all the family

Guided Walk Beginner/Health Walk Nordic Walk Photographic Walk Geo-caching Dog Walk

With peeling paintwork and overgrown courtyards Calke Abbey tells the story of the dramatic decline of a country house estate. The house and stables are little restored, with many abandoned areas vividly portraying a period in the 20th century when numerous country houses did not survive to tell their story. Visit the beautiful, yet faded, walled gardens and explore the orangery, auricula theatre and the kitchen gardens. Or perhaps escape into the ancient and fragile habitats of Calke Park and its National Nature Reserve.
