Welcome... to the Spring edition of What’s On in South Derbyshire and The National Forest
Amid rolling English countryside dotted with picturesque villages you will find so much to enjoy; from historic houses and gardens, to meandering rivers and canals, to archery and snowboarding. All set in the heart of The National Forest, Britain’s most ambitious environmental project. Linking the ancient forests of Needwood and Charnwood, more than eight million trees have already been planted. The woodland is being created on a scale not seen for more than a thousand years, creating stunning landscapes and wildlife habitats. Come and enjoy it this season.

Great local events
How to get involved
The Tour de France is the world’s premier cycling event. It is also one of the world’s biggest annual spectator sporting events, with millions lining the route to watch the action. In 2012 Bradley Wiggins became the first British rider to win the Tour de France. Remarkably last year fellow Brit and Team Sky rider Chris Froome won. Meanwhile Manxman Mark Cavendish continues to add to his impressive tally of sprint stage victories. In 2014 all three will be competing in Le Tour once again. And this year it will start in the UK. The first three stages, known as ‘The Grand Départ’, will see the riders travel from Leeds to London passing through Derbyshire.
