Activities at Rosliston Forestry Centre: Tues 18th February

Woodland Experience Walk

Enjoy a winter ‘woodland experience’ around the forestry centre. Take part in a winter scavenger hunt and look for signs of spring. Bring your cameras! Gather in the classroom from 2pm to start promptly at 2.15pm, whatever the weather. Session will finish between 3.30pm and 4pm. £2 per person.

Tues 15th April

Easter Springwatch 1

Come to the classroom from 2 - 3pm. Borrow some kit to help you explore the site looking for spring birds, beasts and flowers. Bring your camera to photograph what you find, then return to the classroom by 3.30pm for help with identification. All kit to be returned by 4pm. £2.50 per group/set of equipment borrowed.

Tues 22nd April

Bring your camera to photograph what you find, then return to the classroom by 3.30pm for help with identification. All kit to be returned by 4pm. £2.50 per group/ set of equipment borrowed.

Science Discovery Day

Come and have some fun with science have a go at simple experiments with the Environmental Education team and the Astronomy Group. Event free, may be small charge for some activities. Suitable for all ages. 11am - 4pm.

Sat 3rd May

Dawn Chorus Walk at Rosliston Forestry Centre

Meet 5am at Rosliston Forestry Centre Foyer. Join us for a leisurely walk with bird expert Dave Scattergood to discover the wonders of the dawn chorus. Booking essential. £8 per person includes hot snack and drink.

Investigate the site with the Environmental Education bring a camera Project team! Borrow equipment from us and learn more about the varied wildlife as you explore, or join in fun activities like pond dipping or minibeast hunting, led by our staff. Children must be supervised by an adult – please be ready to help them with the activities. See programme for the different types of session and prices.

Family Explorers (Birds)

Come to the classroom from 2 - 3pm. Borrow some kit to help you explore the site looking and listening for spring birds. Bring your camera to take pictures of what you see, and return to the classroom by 3.30pm for help with identification. All kit to be returned by 4pm. £2.50 per group/ set of equipment borrowed.

Sat 19th July

Wildlife ‘Bioblitz’

A full day wildlife bonanza – what creatures live at Rosliston? Join the wildlife experts as they work it out… pick a time to suit yourself or stay all day! A mixture of searching, identification and guided walks. Contact us for the full programme. Event runs from 10am until midnight, (last admission 9pm). Free event, donations welcome.

Pond Dipping

Start any time from 2 - 3.30pm. Join us down by the pond/lake (follow signs) and help us find out what creatures are in there! We provide all the equipment but please be prepared to share within family groups. Session ends 4pm. £2.50 per child over 3.

Family Explorers (Butterflies and other Summer Insects)

Come to the classroom from 2 - 3pm. Borrow some kit to help you explore the site looking for butterflies, bees, dragonflies and other flying insects. Bring your camera to photograph what you find and return to the classroom by 3.30pm for help with identification. All kit to be returned by 4pm. £2.50 per group/set of equipment borrowed.

Tues 12th August

Minibeast Safari

Join us for a guided walk to discover some of the smallest creatures at Rosliston! We will be looking for minibeasts in different places around the site and using sweep nets, weather permitting! Gather in the classroom from 2pm to start promptly at 2.15pm. Session will finish between 3.30pm and 4pm. £2.50 per child over 3.

Come to the classroom from 2 - 3pm. Borrow some kit to help you explore the site looking for plants and trees. Bring your camera to photograph what you find, then return to the classroom by 3.30pm for help with identification. All kit to be returned by 4pm. £2.50 per group/set of equipment borrowed.

Bat Walk

An opportunity to find out about bats with Derbyshire Bat Group – where they live, what they eat and how they find their way in the dark. Meet 6.30pm at Rosliston Forestry Centre classroom. Walk ends about 8.15pm. No need to book. £2.50 per person.

Sat 11th October

Science Discovery Day

Autumnwatch at Rosliston

Come to the classroom from 2 - 3pm. Borrow some kit to help you explore the site looking for signs of autumn such as hedgerow fruits, fungi and migrating birds. Return to the classroom by 3.30pm for help with identification. All kit to be returned by 4pm. £2.50 per group/ set of equipment borrowed.
