'Tis the Reason for the Season, This year has been pretty harsh on many people while others are experiencing good fortune. It's Christmas time and my favorite time of the year is upon us. It's the time of giving without wanting or requiring anything in return. I, for one, am grateful for my husband, my children, my family and awesome friends. I'm thankful for what we have and not what I wish we had. Please, this season, give what you can to those less fortune. One thing comes to mind are those in the Panama City area of Florida devastated by Hurricane Michael. That's what makes me so proud to be part of the biker world. Our TN National Guard Toy Run & Benefit was one of those events raising money and toys for children at the Children's Hospital in Knoxville TN and members of the TN National Guard. This year we collected more toys than ever before. A big thank you goes out to all of you who participated from us and the members of the TN National Guard. It's also the season for cold weather riding so layer up or get electric. We have heated pants, coats, gloves and socks so we can continue riding through the winter months. Stay safe out there too. ROCKIN’ AT THE THUNDER MOUNTAIN BIKE RALLY By The Mag Man, Randy Gracy

P

ulling into the Holston River Brewing Company in beautiful Bristol, Tennessee, the vendors were setting up after a big torrential downpour of rain of a couple days. There were lots of attendees out and about and getting to visit some of those vendors.

The first part of my trip there was to visit with Sue Daugherty, owner of Holston River Brewing and Thunder Mountain Bike Rally. She is without a doubt one of the nicest, most approachable rally owners ’ve ever met. Don’t get me wrong, she was busier than a one-legged man in butt-kicking contest. But she made time to visit with me and let me in on a few goings on for the weekend. My first impression was it was going to be really small with the limited amount of RVs and vendors saw. Then Sue let me know quite quickly, “head on around to the main stage and see everything. Main Stage But there was a big one inside olston Brewing Company. Then I began my trek (I should have brought my RTV). My next impression was… HOLY COW! This venue stretches for about a half mile and what was hidden I didn’t see was hundreds of RVs, hundreds of tent campers, a huge stage, more vendors and the midway with Circus Una and their high ying motorcycle act fixing to go on with their first show. This is without a doubt a perfect place for a large rally and Sue and her staff were making it happen. With top headliners like Molly Hatchet and Jackyl, folks were coming from all over to be a part of this event. Michael Ballard brought his Full Throttle Saloon set up ust for this event to add to the atmosphere. Motorcycles were pulling in all weekend. The cold damp weather tried to throw us a curve, but we all en oyed a tremendous time. If you missed this event, you really missed a good one. It was set up perfect in a way for attendees to get the most out of the entire weekend. Make sure to put this on your calendar for next year. Sue is already making plans for dates, entertainment and new stuff for you to en oy. See you in Bristol for a little Thunder Mountain excitement!

11th Annual TENNESSEE NATIONAL GUARD

TOY RUN & Benefit By The Mag Man, Randy Gracy

T

his year’s benefit was not only fun, but full of great prizes, entertainment and lots of riders with warm caring hearts. Making this year’s event into a combined concert benefit and a poker run with a twist, riders en oyed the stops provided and also everything musical. The poker run had its usual stops for drawing cards at Cycle Stop, Ridge Runners, Rogers Caf and Biker Rags. We threw in a twist and included a Joker Stop at Cotton Eyed Joes where a drawing a Joker could change your hand with one card. Folks loved this part of the event. Also, top area entertainment came to provided great music for the attendees Will Sheppard, Matt ickey and illbilly Jedi. Great food was provided by Archer’s BB own A-Team and cold beverages were provided by Rooster’s Bar & Grill. Several donations were made for some great door prizes including 2-55 Smart TVs by the Garza Law Group, many motorcycle items by Smokey Mtn. Biker Gear and several items by some great sponsors and vendors. Door prize winners and silent auction winners loved their winning bids and tickets drawn. The weather again played a part in attendance of the event, but the rain never showed and Knoxville arley-Davidson hosted a great event. The TN National Guard was in full force with several large games for everyone to play on and many military vehicles for folks to see and get pictures with. Santa Ron was there helping out under the tent with Ms Santa Deb . Funds from this event go toward the children at East Tennessee Children’s ospital who are patients at Christmas time. t gives the Soldiers and Airmen of the TNNG a chance to give back to their community and to fellow guardsmen who may be in ured due to combat and or may not be able to afford Christmas for their families. es, we have soldiers and their families in need at Christmas time. That’s why this event is so important. Kristin, and the Board are so honored to host this event every year and look forward to next year’s event that is beginning to be planned this week. After giving so much, our very own soldiers are giving back to their community in a big way and we are humbled to be able to help in a small way. DAYTONA BEACH HOSTS THOUSANDS at 26th BIKETOBERFEST By The Mag Man, Randy Gracy

D

aytona Beach never looked better as the Sunshine State’s Most Famous Beaches played host the 26th annual Biketoberfest motorcycle rally. The Daytona International Speedway hosted the Daytona Beach & Convention Bureau’s press conference to kick-off the 26th Biketoberfest. Riders arrived from all over the country and the world to take in everything from beaches, to charity rides to concerts to everything motorcycle. Hurricane Michael had just hit Panama City Beach and the surrounding area, so many rally goers that were heading there, opted to attend Biketoberfest which made for a larger crowd. From the first day of Wednesday, the SBMag Road Crew (I, JB Burkhardt, Liz Cunningham, Bud & Debra Herman, Terry & Cathie Mapes and host of others) SBMag hit Main Street to start the event off right. t was PACKED on the first night and left a great sign of things to come. Motorcycles were everywhere you looked and the Daytona Beach business area loves that. We closed the night at Boot Hill Saloon and Main Street Station as those places were packed until the weeee hours of the morning. We had a few events we didn’t want to miss, the Ruff Ride charity ride, the Sons of Speed racing put on by Billy Lane of Choppers Inc. The area vendor sections were covered up with folks to buy stuff Rossmeyer’s Harley-Davidson, the saloons on US-1, Beach Street at Indian Motorcycles of Daytona, Cackleberry

Campground and other places. Some of the hot eating spots in Daytona we went to included Finn’s Beachside Pub, Racing’s North Turn, the Ocean Deck, Racing’s First Turn and Bruno’s Pizzeria. Top musical entertainers hosted attendees and keep the party going on week like one of my favorites, ayfire, Pop Evil, Jackyl, Jasmine Cain, Miss ntent, and more. We also took in the Sons of Speed vintage Motorcycle race put on by Billy Lane of Choppers Inc. That was some outstanding vintage horsepower to see live. Willie’s Tropical Tattoo Bike Show was hot place to go see some old school bikes and the Rat’s Hole Bike Show at Indian Motorcycles of Daytona always draws top competition from around country. We en oyed the entire Biketoberfest event and looking forward to Daytona’s next event, the 78th Annual Bike Week that will be held March 8-17, 2019. aytona Beach Area Convention & Visitors Bureau hosted media day and press conference to kick-off Biketoberfest. t was held at the Harley-Davidson Thunder Alley stage at the famous Daytona nternational Speedway. Attendees we given Biketoberfest pins and poker chips to add to their collections before the press conference got underway. V Ps and area law enforcement spoke on welcoming all the riders and stressed safety for the entire week including Lori Campbell Baker, Exec. Director DBAC&VB Andrew Gurtis, Sr. VP of Operations D S Bob Davis, CEO President, L& A of Volusia County Ed Kelley, Volusia County Council Chair Sheriff Mike Chitwood, VCSO Chief Craig Capri, Daytona Beach PD and Shelly Rossmeyer Pepe of Bruce Rossmeyer’s arley-Davidson. Janet Kersey, COO of the DRCC finished up with announcing the coming of the 78th Daytona Beach Bike Week and the new logo for the event.

R

oyal Enfield’s NEW Continental and GT 650cc parallel twins are here at last collect a factory press demo from Royal Enfield of Charlotte, ’m taking it around their closed practice track, checking brakes, throttle response, getting acquainted with controls and feel before taking it out for a blistering test ride. First glance, ’m reminded of 1950’s Brit twins. Triumph’s legendary 650 cc Bonneville T120, Norton’s 500 cc Dominator in particular. While Enfield’s twins deliberately sport retro looks, don’t be fooled. ere is cutting edge, state of the art machines sporting engines newly designed for smooth, impressive performance. Add especially-produced Pirelli tires for confident grip, high performance disc brakes, handlebars, saddle positioned ust right, nice Slipping the Continental into first gear, visor down, open the throttle, drop the clutch and we’re off A tight left corner at 70 mph transports one back to halcyon British caf racing days, Ton-Up, Ace Caf and all that. No speed limits, streaking past sedate motor cars was exhilarating. Sleek, sexy, seductive and speedy, haven’t en oyed such a thoroughbred crunch corners as confidently in decades. Riding European style, crouched forward for wind-cheating, elbows and knees tucked tight in why older bikes had tank pads give it full-on gun. No shortage of power, front wheel could have lifted had let it. Smooth shifting sixspeed gearbox especially designed for the 650 cc twins perfect. Pirelli’s gripping perfectly through hairpin bends hey, these bikes are FUN. The 650 cc, parallel-twin engines are air-cooled, four-valves per cylinder, single overhead cam SO C . Conceived in 2015, 2018 Continental GT and nterceptor 650’s are fuel-in ected, air oil-cooled engine produces 47 horsepower, with 38 foot-pounds of torque making them ideal for multiple riding style adventures. Perhaps less familiar to American riders, Royal Enfield created its first powered vehicles in 1896, making innovative motorcycles during the early 1900’s. During the great depression, the company survived by marketing inexpensive commuter bikes including a sturdy 225cc two-stroke, and sidevalve V-twins for sidecar use. During World War Two, like BSA and Norton factories, Royal Enfield provided sturdy 350 and 500 cc motorcycles for the British Army. Retro style twin dial gauges are identical on both Continental GT 650 and nterceptor 650 dial speedometer with digital inset screen fuel level and trip odometer. While matching dial style tachometer keeps rev track, still prefer listening to engine pitch during gear-changes. While the Continental GT is the choice for caf racer crowd, the nterceptor is more suited to the everyday commuter and weekend touring fun. haven’t en oyed thoroughbred machines demolish corners with such confident road handling in decades. BOSOM BUDDIES

CANCER RIDE By The Mag Man, Randy Gracy

F

inally here after being postponed three times due to weather, the Bosom Buddies Cancer Ride took place under sunshine and clear skies. Beginning and ending at Cullman Regional Medical Center in Cullman, Alabama, riders were treated to breakfast snacks, lunch and a great escorted ride through the country side. After the ride, they enjoyed great food and drawings for some nice door prizes. SBMag Road Crew member, Jeff Burkhardt, and I road in to attend this great event. David Sandolin was presented a special award for helping form and this ride continuing to help raise funds against cancer. The ride was in his honor as David is also fighting cancer at this time. Said Blue Knights AL VIII President Bobby Barnes, “I would like thank all of our law enforcement Brother’s who supported our event and assisted with tra c control and the escort, Mark Dyer and the entire Bosom Buddies Foundation for allowing the Blue Knights AL VIII to be a part of the Bosom Buddies family.” One hundred percent of all proceeds from this fundraiser as well as other donations go directly to deserving cancer patients in the Cullman County area. No matter what type cancer they may have, funds can be used to cover everything from groceries to utility bills while they continue their battle. A board of directors who accept no money for their time or effort oversees the foundation. All money is donated and raised by the board of directors, volunteers and citizens of Cullman County. JD & LARA’S ENGAGEMENT PARTY By Jon Payne

O

n a chilly night in North Knoxville, employees and friends of Knoxville Harley-Davidson gathered at the Corn Pone Tavern for a celebration of sorts. KHD’s long-time parts and chrome guy o cially came off the market. JD Vincent asked his long-term girlfriend Lara Gaines to marry him. Now, you have to understand; JD is the “NEVER getting married” guy and that’s known by everyone in these parts. We aren’t sure how (or why for that matter) that Lara decided to take one of the motorcycling community’s most eligible bachelors off the market, but she did it in style and grace. JD asked Lara to marry him a few days prior, with his mother’s wedding ring that has been passed down through his family. Even though they were technically engaged when they arrived, that didn’t stop everyone from having a little fun at JD’s expense at the event; from people trying to dance with Lara to a guy asking Lara to marry him! The Matthew Hickey Band, along with JD’s younger brother Chris, played the event and the Corn Pone was standing room only. Both JD and Lara are very well respected in the community and it showed. The beer and Jack owed and the dance oor was hot. Rumor is that a video of JD dancing even made its way out of the Tavern. The Party lasted well into the night with friends and family coming and going. The Corn Pone Tavern is a staple of the motorcycling community and was very welcoming to all of us who attended.
