WORDS FROM THE PUBLISHER
Hello Knee Breezers, 2019 Christmas is in the books and another decade is going behind us as the 2020 year has arrived. I hope this year will find everyone where they want to be, in the best place possible and doing the things you love the most. My husband and I have been so busy, it’s hard to even slow down to catch up each day. Life is going by so fast, it’s challenging to stop and appreciate what we have and where we are in life. Sometimes things might get tough, but that’s what builds character. It’s not hard you fall; it’s how you handle things going forward when you get up. Be that person everyone sees as a good person and help those in need when it’s obvious they are struggling. We all need help sometimes, but we hardly ever show it or ask for it.

We have lost a good friend and a fellow magazine representative to cancer; Liz Cunningham in Daytona Beach, Florida. She was a tremendous person and always greeted you with a smile, even though she was struggling with pain from battling cancer. Our centerfold this issue is dedicated to Liz with those who loved, laughed and rode motorcycles with her. She truly loved life and loved spending time with each and every one of you. If you are riding this winter, please wrap up or plug in that heated gear Santa may have brought you for Christmas. Make sure you plot out your destination and know where some warm stops are along the way. When riding with friends, take an extra moment to take the ride in and enjoy the time you are spending with each other. It makes for good memories later on. Be safe out there and make this next year your best ever. TIMBERSLED HARLEY-DAVIDSON CONVERSION By The Mag Man, Randy Gracy
W
hen Harley-Davidson brought out the H-D snow bikes during the X-Games last year, most just thought it would be a passing concept that would never materialize. But then folks began converting the H-D Sportsters into the now everywhere H-D Scramblers to take H-D into the woods, over dirt and thru the water. The Timbersled Company has now gone that extra step further and they have begun line producing their own snow sled conversion kits with different options for dirt bikes and the V-Twins can’t be far behind. Now comes a Slovakian H-D dealer who has turned a 1200cc Sportster into the baddest snow shredding motorcycle on the planet. Banska Bystrica Harley-Davidson in Slovakia figured out a way to get a Timbersled snow track conversion kit to work on a Sportster chassis. But the build wasn’t easy. They had to get the power track right hand drive system set up for the left side belt drive on the Sportster. They also had fabricate a new braking system since the kit was designed for the weight of a dirt bike (the Sportster weighs twice one of those). All things being equal, the dealer’s builders made it happen and the results are awe inspiring. The Sportster 1200cc puts out approximately 68hp and 73lb-ft of torque vs the KTM 450SXF dirt bike that puts out 58hp and 37lb-ft of torque. Everything equals with the weight being hauled, but that 20HP extra and double the torque this V-Twin puts out will be “useful” in the snow. This H-D snow motorcycle wasn’t just built to look at or to be a “concept”; it was built with the full intentions to be ridden. They used 137” tracks instead of the standard stock 120” tracks; useful extra traction for those in need of gripping and ripping it. They didn’t do their promotional material in a studio; they did their testing on this machine out in the wide open snowy hills in order to get some awesome action shots and do some real testing on the bikes handling and maneuverability. They also did jumps and nothing broke or stopped. It ran better than all of their expectations. The Timbersled Company has now gone that extra step further and they have begun line producing their own snow sled conversion kits with different options. With the H-D Sportster coming in 883cc and 1200cc, riders can decide what power and speed they want in their new motorcycle snow sled. Let’s see if the motor company decides to produce its own version for all those Northern riders. Just think, you put your two wheels in the garage for the winter and bring out your H-D Trackster! *Photos by CustomKingHarleyDavidson

Marvin Musquin to Miss Entire 2020 Supercross
K
TM announced that 29-year-old Marvin Musquin of the By The Mag Man, Randy Gracy Red Bull KTM Team will miss the entire 2020 Supercross championship due to an injury suffered at the KTM test track recently when he over jumped a jump and ended with a big impact. It did damage to both knees but one needed immediate surgery. According to the team, Musquin has returned to France and successfully underwent surgery to repair his left knee and will begin therapy. Musquin stated, “I was really happy to be back on the bike riding after being injured at the end of the Motocross season and starting to train for Supercross. It’s devastating news to me as I was really looking forward to racing Supercross, but I will take the time needed to recover properly with my main focus being to return when I am strong enough to win races.” In the last three Supercross championships, Musquin has finished third (2017), second (2018), and third (2019) in the 450SX standings. In the 2019 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship, Musquin finished third in 450 Class standings. He is expected to race the 2020 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship.
Chad Reed Farewell 2020 Tour Riding a Honda for His Own Independent Team By The Mag Man, Randy Gracy umor had it that after Marvin Musquin R went down for the season with a knee injury, the easy slide in would have
been the 22 of Chad Reed. With all the social media hype going on, the story suddenly came crashing to halt when Chad Reed posted that he would indeed race in the 2020 Supercross 450 class and he would be doing it his own way. Chad’s farewell tour will be his final season and he would be doing it as a privateer. The TwoTwo Motorsports rider will be doing it again, under his own team. His wife Ellie and family friend Dan Truman both confirmed the team is putting together everything needed in short time to compete to win in his final season. New Southeast motorcycle multi-dealership sponsor Mountain Motorsports is helping in big way. Reed stated, “Mountain Motorsports has been amazing in helping and
supporting everything that I’ve been doing lately.” Dan is securing the rig and trailer for transport, Ellie is handling all the travel logistics and Ben Schiermeyer is working out all the technical details on the new Honda CRF240R race bikes. The team will be backed by Mountain Motorsports, cbdMD, Fox Racing, Boost Mobile, ARMA, Knobby Underwear and a long list of technical partners that includes Pro Circuit, Dunlop, DASA, Art of War, ProTaper, Dubya USA, SCOTT, Factory Effex, and more. When Reed makes his first Main Event, it will be his 250th in the top class of the AMA Supercross. If you aren’t pulling for the “Old Man”, you should be. He will be in the Hall of Fame of Motorsports and he’s going out, his way.
Paralyzed Wayne Rainey Rides Suzuka
By The Mag Man, Randy Gracy
T
hree-time 500GP World Champion, Wayne Rainey is back in the saddle. Rainey suffered a horrendous injury in a 1993 race accident leaving him paralyzed during the Italian GP at Misano. In November of 2019, he was able to ride again for the first time in 26 years aboard a Yamaha R1 rigged up to be used with hand controls. This lead to him wanting more and wanting to ride at Suzuka for its Sound of Engine. Officials for the track were honored he chose Suzuka. They graced him several speed laps on an R1 painted in the iconic red and white livery of his racing heyday. Rainey then was included for a parade lap before the race started. The last time Rainey raced at Suzuka, we won the ’93 Japanese GP. Rainey also rode also rode the track with paralyzed Japanese rider Takuma Aoki on a Repsol Honda. Aoki lost the use of his legs after an accident in 1998, a year after he finished fifth overall with Honda in the 500GP class. He was also accompanied by fellow US riders, ’78 GP Champion Kenny Roberts and 4-time GP Champion Eddie Lawson. “To not ride for all those years and then to come back and do some laps around this circuit, I never knew the emotion would be as strong as it is. I immediately thought about all the good times I had in my career at this circuit. I haven’t (ridden) a motorcycle in 26 years so to put it into sixth gear and go 250kmh (155.343mph) was amazing, I loved it.” There’s just nothing like riding on two wheels and for those that race for a living, to have a career ending injury and then get a second chance to go over 150mph again… Well, it’s just gotta be that thrill of a lifetime, all over again!

ancer is a disease none of us hope to ever get and pray our loved do not either. But when it does happen, sadness comes over us and mortality of our own lives has us questioning why. Liz was one of our reps for Southern Biker Magazine and always did a great job. She always had great photos with people smiling. She seemed to bring out the best in folks in her photos. I decided instead of writing about Liz, I would put photos of her and her friends instead; it’s exactly what I think she’d prefer. In one of her photos Liz had a saying, “Life only comes around once, so do whatever makes you happy and be with whoever makes you smile.” Liz believed this as you can tell by the amount of friends she was surrounded with. She loved riding and she loved taking photos of people smiling. She enjoyed life and was dreading leaving her children (Jake, McKayla & Katelynn), family and friends. We will all miss her greatly. But we will all see her again.

he 5th Annual Georgia State Patrol Toy Ride took place in North Georgia. The ride continues to grow and it ended at Mountain Creek Harley-Davidson in Dalton, GA. There were 170+ bikes that came and took place in the escorted ride. Over 200 people came to support the event that benefited the Marinesʼ Toys for Tots charity. Big Thank to the GA State Patrol, the City of Ringgold Police, Catoosa County SO, Whitfield County SO and the Dalton City Police Dept. for their assistance in escorting us safely.
T
he 11th Annual GUNS and HOSES “Battle of the Badges” boxing match took place in Chattanooga, Tennessee. It was a nine bout boxing card featuring members of Law Enforcement vs members of Firefighters & EMS from teams representing departments throughout the Hamilton County and Chattanooga metropolitan area. Competitors are first matched by age, then boxing experience, then overall abilities. The charity bouts benefited the YCAP Boxing Club, a delinquency prevention program and the Forgotten Child Fund, a charity of the Firefighters and Law Enforcement Officers, who provide Christmas gifts to children who otherwise might not get a present. This year, the “GUNS” took home more belts and took home the overall trophy.
