U14 Nationals Fundraising

Congratulations to our Under 14.1 Sabres Girls (players, coaches, staff and parents) on qualifying for the 2022 Australian Under 14 Club Championships to be held in Sydney, NSW September 25th to 30th. The girls have done an amazing job qualifying for this tournament. It has been a big 2022 for the team, after qualifying for Victorian Championship (VC) and competing in the National Junior Classic. It’s particularly impressive after the last two years of little to no consistent basketball. The coaches and players have worked incredibly hard to get to this point and everyone within the Sabres program is extremely proud of the effort they have put in. The Sabres U14 girls will be fundraising around Sandringham over the coming weeks and have planned a number of initiatives to help them get to Sydney. If you are able to support them in any way it would mean a lot to the whole team. Best of luck to the girls for the tournament!

PREVIEW: Round 14 NBL1 – WOMEN Saturday July 23rd v Casey (lost 82 - 98) Sunday July 24th v Ringwood (lost 102 - 61)

elcome back to the Sabredome. Last weekend was tough with two losses against Casey and Ringwood. Casey’s Abby Bishop was too strong inside with 22 points. Funda Nakkasouglu and Britt Smart had great games with 23 points and 24 points respectively. This weekend we look forward to getting back on the winners lists by playing hard against Keilor. Keilor’s Maddie Garrick and Monique Andriolo have been starring for the Thunder, with both players averaging 20 points.

They present a great challenge for our defence and we will focus on stopping their scoring efforts this week. In Sabres news for the week, Rach Jarry has announced that she will retire at the end of this season. As we finish out the last four games of the season, I encourage all Sabres juniors and basketball fans to come and watch the ex-Olympian finish her career. It has been a brilliant one and we are lucky to have her in the orange and blue! Finally I would like to thank all the supporters. Each week the crowd is growing and we love having your support. PREVIEW: Round 14 NBL1 – MEN Saturday July 23rd v Casey (win 93 - 85) Sunday July 24th v Ringwood (win 81 - 82)

W

elcome back my Sabre family! Tonight we’re up against the Keilor Thunder in our second last home game of the regular season, and the way the ladder is shaping up, it’s a super important one. After a successful weekend last round where we picked up two huge wins, we’re excited to welcome back Tohi Smith-Milner and David Okwera from National Team duties.

Congratulations to them both with David helping the Aussies to gold and Tohi helping the Tall Blacks to bronze along with earning All-Star 5 honours for his performance throughout the tournament. What an achievement! Unfortunately we’re without Dion Prewster (injury) and Tom Wright (3x3 at the Commonwealth Games) tonight, so we’re going to need you to be extra loud. Thanks for coming and GO SABRES! David Barlow – NBL1 Men’s Head Coach
