Letter to Editor

Writer questions auto insurance

LAKESIDE PARK SEWER CONSTRUCTION KINGSVILLE — Lakeside Park in Kingsville would have been bustling with musicians on the weekend of August 7-9, but due to COVID-19, instead it’s bustling with construction machinery and workers. Henry Heyink Construction is overseeing the installation of a new sanitary sewer line being built through Lakeside Park, connecting the existing town pump station to the west side of Queen Street. Dear Editor: This letter has been sent to Doug Ford, Dave Epp, The Windsor Star and Sean O’Shea, who is a trouble shooter at Global TV in Toronto. I recently received my statement from my insurance company and much to my shock, they have increased my monthly payments to almost $40. I was totally dumbfounded at this outrageous increase and have decided to not sit on my hands and do nothing but to get to the bottom of this. Their reasoning for this substantial increase is to keep pace with rising costs and my policy has been amended to reflect this change. What change? They also state that their committment to me is their number one priority. REALLY? I am a 78 year old retired lady, living on a fixed income, and yes, I do have bills to pay. I very rarely go out with the exception of grocery shopping every other week, and there are many days that my car does not move. So my question to this insurance company (and others as well) is — with my age and lack of car usage, what in God’s earth warrants increasing my car insurance by almost $40? Judging by the way people drive these days, it’s no wonder that there are are many car crashes, thus boosting car insurance rates, but does that reflect on those that are careful drivers? So many time I see drivers speeding, erratic driving methods, not using turn signals (my pet peeve) and tailgaiting (leave earlier!). I have heard from different people that this has happened to them as well, and their elderly parents too — so very unfair! Makes me wonder just whose pockets are being lined so handsomely. Mine are getting emptier too often! Sincerely, Mary J. MacVicar
