Jamieson Tour enjoys stop at Beach Grove The Jamieson Golf Tour stopped at Beach Grove on Monday August 10, where players got to enjoy the Stanley Thompson design along with a cool breeze from Lake St. Clair. In the Junior Girls’ Division, Jillian Friyia (London Area) won her fourth event in her fourth start, edging out Kyla Charlebois (Pointe West) and Vanessa Ardovini (Roseland) by one shot. Friya recorded nines of 40-38, while Charlebois was 40-39, and Ardovini was 41-38. In the Collegiate Women’s Division, Brooke MacKinnon (Hartford University) took home her second victory of the season with a three-over par 75. MacKinnon recorded nines of 38-37, with birdies on holes #5 and #17. In second place was Erin Kopinak (Delaware State University) with a score of 89. In the Junior Boys’ Division, there was a two-way tie for first, with both Steven Hill (Essex) and Tyler Hurtubise (Pointe West) firing three-under par 69. Hill’s round included seven birdies en route to nines of 34-35. Hurtubise had four birdies over the course of his round, and also recorded nines of 34-35. Jax Sisson (Ambassador) and Spencer Higginbottom (Beach Grove), followed closely behind with rounds of 71. In the Collegiate Mens’ Division, Alex Saroli (Essex/ Wayne State Warriors) earned his second victory of the season with an impressive round of four-under par 68. Saroli’s round started off slowly, with a one-over par 37, but caught fire on the back nine, recording five birdies, including three on his final three holes (31). Saroli’s birdie on the last edged out Mathew Hawryluk (Maple City/Wayne State Warriors) by one shot. Full results can be found at www.jamiesonjuniortour.ca
Harness racing will allow spectators in week three
LEAMINGTON — With week two in the books and Stage 3 of the province’s plan to reopen the economy, Leamington Raceway will be able to welcome up to 100 spectators at the track on Sunday, August 23. You will need to pre-register with the Lakeshore Horse Racing Association by calling 519566-6547. The August 16 race card drew a field of 48 horses across the 10 race event. The handle was $7611.
SOL LEAM CUP WINNERS LEAMINGTON — The Blue Team won the 2020 edition of the Sol Leam Cup, which wrapped up August 12 at Erie Shores Golf Course. The Blues were captained by Cheryl Rutgers, and they narrowly defeated the Reds, which were captained by Jo-Anne Smith. Although this years Sol Leam Cup was played under strict COVID rules, the competition still had the same fun and gamesmanship as always, with credit to sponsors, Lisa Fehr and Lisa Sawatsky, whose generosity made the event a great success.
