Erie Shores Thursday Night League continues to attract golfers By Paul Bunnett-Jones We may be well into the dog days of summer but Erie Shores is still packed with record numbers of golfers just about every day from 7:00 am until 8:30 pm and Thursdays are no exception with the Leamington Canadian Tire Men’s Thursday Night League pulling in its highest numbers ever in the past 30 plus years. Oddly, even with its fine crop of low handicap players, no one has done much damage this season to the former records of low gross scores. This week, no one broke par and one of its finest southpaws, Neil Sawatzky, was the overall low leader for the second time in five weeks by shooting a smooth even par round of 36. Tied for second place with one over par scores of 37 was Joe Schnekenburger, Tim Tiessen and Club Pro Ryan Peltier. Another five players managing to tie for fifth spot with two over par scores of 38’s included Brad Melton, Mitch Amicone,
Matt Dick, Kyle Kudroch and Brian Humphreys. In the handicap division, Phil Cornies and Connor MacKinnon tied for low spot with impressive six under par net rounds of 30 to finish one stroke in front of Tim Tiessen and Ian Munro who both finished with five under par net 31’s. Mitch Amicone, Garth Dennerley, Joe Schnekenburger and Kevin Kantati all tied for fifth place with four under par net 32’s. In Team play, the Cin-
Talbot Trail Seniors field 58 golfers By Bob McLean On August 11, there were 58 seniors who tested their golfing skills. The outside workers have welcomed a hard worker — Cameron Symons, to their crew. Joe Drummond led the under 70s with an excellent 39. Terrific 40s were shot by Nasher and Arkey. Phil Humphries enjoyed shooting his outstanding 41. Fred Michano shot a superb 43. Others who earned satisfying results less than 50 were: Tim Stevenson, Ian Quirk, Gerry van Deven, Herb Reid, Art Regehr and Dave Dibbley. In our 70-79 grouping, Dutchy produced a masterful 38 to best Paul Harrison, who was on fire, by one shot. Outstanding 41s were shot by Bill Ward and Chopper. An inspiring 42 was achieved by Ron McCracken. Both Ray la Pierre and
Al Matthews carved out magnificent 43s. Scores of 49 or less: Bobo, Larry Hyatt, Gary Honey, Eugene Abbruzzese, Richard Humber (welcome
back), Mac Hyatt, Gus Brown, Wayne Humber, Dave Dent. There was a flood of nifty fifty shooters: Bob Lee, Gary Wilson, Ross MacKintosh, Schmidty, Al Zanuttini. A 20 foot long putt drained by Ray on #2 was the winning shot. There was no winner for the Closest to the pin as someone appar-
ently tried to play a practical joke. Please let the best shot win! Vic Reynaert was the leader in the 80-85 section by firing an excellent 45. Excellent results of 46 and 47 were shot by Ed Woelk and Joe Vrtel respectively. Other satisfying results were earned by: Andy Orsini, Bill Edwards, Walter Balsam, Neil Adamson, Terry Bee (Happy Birthday) and Ken Womack. In the Super senior “Silver” division, Tom Hyatt continued his inspiring play by shooting a 44. Steady playing Bob Freure scored a very praiseworthy 48. Everyone In the ‘Gold’ division played well today. Dave la Bonte charged to the front with a masterful 4. Carl Robinson and Gerry Becigneul earned terrific 47s. Very praiseworthy results went to Andy, Scotty, and Erle.
