Youth needed for Mayor’s Advisory Commitee LEAMINGTON — The Municipality of Leamington is looking for youth between the ages of 13 and 18 who are passionate about making a difference in the community. The Mayor’s Youth Advisory Committee (MYAC) provides Leamington youth with a voice and an opportunity to have a positive impact on the community through support for issues and organizations they are passionate about. “It’s important that young people in Leamington are fully engaged when it comes to issues that impact the kind of future they want for themselves and

their community,” said Mayor Hilda MacDonald. MYAC meets monthly on Mondays each month, as scheduled, throughout the school year. Applications can be submitted electronically at www.leamington.ca/ MYAC. Alternatively, applications will be accepted by mail to: Municipality of Leamington, 111 Erie Street North, Leamington, ON N8H 2Z9, Attention: Clerk’s Department or by email to clerk@leamington.ca no later than Friday, September 4, 2020.

LEAMINGTON — Youngsters looking to escape the heat at the Seacliff Park splashpad will have to wait until next summer. The photo above shows the idle water attraction in contrast to the busy playground behind it. Playgrounds within the municipality were opened with the announcement of Stage 3, but council decided last week to keep the splashpad closed for the season, citing difficulty in enforcing social distancing. Meanwhile, the newly named Nature Fresh Farms Recreation Complex has been tabbed to have a soft re-opening, with user groups allowed to book the pool, gym and ice rinks going forward. The complex is not yet open for use by the general public. Sun photo

LEAMINGTON — The Municipality of Leamington has issued a plan to gradually re-open the Nature Fresh Farms Recreation Centre. The complex remains closed to the public as Leamington continues to host the COVID-19 Assessment Centre in the gymnasium as well as the emergency isolation pods in the Highbury Canco rink. Limited access is currently available for ice and pool rentals with organizations and groups that have specific COVID-19 guidelines in place. Booking requests can be directed to bookings@

leamington.ca. The introduction of some outdoor fitness classes will also be allowed. In the fall, the municpality will introduce use of the gym, weight room, courts, pool and fitness studio by advance registration only and in adherence with capacity and physical distancing guidelines. Return to regular programming will not occur until 2021, with adherence to capacity and physical distancing guidelines. More information is available on the website at leamington.ca/COVID-19.
