The future is a midst of contrasting light and dark, uncertain and risky. But education promises assurance and a sneak peak to the sweet accomplishment that the future has in store. Though within reach, the path to take would never be easy, and it’s a maze of complicated turns. Educators play an essential role in shaping up a student into a successful professional. The most rewarding feeling for an educator comes with the accomplishment of a student in the professional league. All this wouldn’t be possible without the contribution of the educators. Their influence can be a heavy factor in determining a child’s future. The time has come for SPCBA to bid farewell to two of the most treasured professors that had served this institution for more than a decade. They’ve seen students come and go and take pride on their achievements, knowing that these wouldn’t be possible without their guidance. And thus, we want to say thank you and goodbye to siblings Victoria Serania and Herninio Sy of the Business Administration Department for their years of service to the SPCBA community and for making it possible for us students to ascend up the ladder of success.

Parting Memories

Serania had started working for SPCBA since 2001 (14 years), and Sy from 2003 (12 years). Serania had described her profession as enjoyable and rewarding. She claimed that every day was her favorite part of teaching. She took pleasure in being an educator; sharing what she learned in life, imparting her knowledge to the students and even giving them advices about personal things. Being a professor is noble profession, and she had realized it, taking pride in her work. “While you are teaching, you are also learning from the students,” said Sy. Being in a classroom with people from different cultures, backgrounds, and religions offer a great deal of knowledge for both the professor and t h e students. He said that as a person grows old, his opportunities get slimmer in a parallel manner. “By age, I’m really old, but I’m stronger… We don’t live to work; we work to live, and live in abundance.” Optimistic and colorful, that’s how Serania sees her stay in SPCBA to be. Apart from the friendship and camaraderie she had built with her fellow professors over the years, she also treasures the memories she had while performing on stage during SPCBA special events, saying that she was delighted to be singing and dancing in front of a spirited crowd that chants her name. It was those times that bring a smile to her face. “Parang girlfriend lang

‘yan,” said Sy jokingly. It was high time that he detach himself from this kind of environment and focus on things like business, family, and religion. He also said that he had no regrets whatsoever. “I’ve completed my task without blemish, without any kind of scandalous involvement. I consider it as an achievement.”

Next Endeavors

Though it’s still under planning process, Serania said she was going to be putting up a small business after she retires. She mentioned one option: A daycare for dogs. She said that her children love dogs, and that is why this idea appealed to her. After retiring, she would spend more time with her husband and children. She would live a new life and travel to new places, discover new things. In a hopeful tone, she said that she wished she would be taking care of her grandchildren someday. Sy also said that he would be focusing on his family business. He would be enjoying his time productively, spending it with his family and making the most out of it. As a Christian, he said that he would be focusing on his responsibility with God. “I am entering a new life of searching what is the truth.” He seeks religious enlightenment, and hopes to find the answers he needs.

Messages

“For those who would still be here when I go, I will miss them. I wish for them the best in their studies, and good luck,” said Serania when asked what would be her message to the SPCBA students. Each student has the ability to reach the peak of success; the self-actualization stage of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. She urges them to persevere. Educators can only help, but each person must learn to walk without holding onto anybody’s hand. “Ayaw ko hatulan and estudyante base sa grades,” said Sy. Though they’re important, it’s not the only factor in determining one’s success. Addressing his fellow professors, he said: “Be a bridge to their (the students’) success, not an obstacle. Give them opportunities.” Serania said that SPCBA’s very memorable for her part. She’s friends with both professors and staff, and even students. She said goodbye and she hoped to see them soon. She admitted that she wasn’t an avid user of social media, but said that maybe it would be the time that she would get to use her accounts. “FB-FB na lang,” she said.

July of 2010, just few months after President Aquino won the presidential election, he assembled a panel that resumed the peace talks with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF). August 2011, Mr. Aquino met with MILF chair Murad Ebrahim in Tokyo Japan to juggle out the formal resumption of the peace process. It took the government and MILF peace panel to come up with a framework agreement that would finally govern the peace talks. The agreement, signed on October 15, 2012, stipulated that the two sides needed to work on four major areas – transitional mechanisms, power-sharing, wealth-sharing, and normalization – before final peace document can be signed and the new political entity called Bangsamoro proposed by the agreement submitted to congress for voting. It took fifteen months before the two panels signed, and then on January 25, 2014, the normalization annex, the last of the four documents that make up the comprehensive peace agreement was made. The proposed Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL) that would govern the new entity has been submitted to Congress for deliberation, it remained pending in both Senate and House of Representatives though. In case you are wondering, did we just write the BBL timeline? The answer: yes we did. The importance: everyone should know the tracks of this law so as to understand the efforts made by the government to promote peace all over the archipelago. That could have been a great exit line if we were rooting for the Aquino administration. The way Sphere sees it, this entire ”peace negotiation” have been a hurried, reckless, and thoughtless process meant to secure “peace at all cost” so that as the canard goes, President Aquino can bid for a Nobel Peace Prize. It was the Mamasapano carnage that left 44 members of the Philippine National Police-Special Action Force dead after raiding a well-known MILF lair in pursuit of the two terrorist (18 MILF fighters and at least five civilians were also killed), that made the whole nation aware of the irregularities in the BBL. It bombarded the social stratosphere with all kinds of comments and opinions, some even more supporting BBL, others calling for its end. It is funny that despite the huge national debacle about the matter, the proponents of BBL – MILF and Aquino administration – hardly even squeaked and commented on the matter. The families of the fallen 44 and the nation felt like a knife was drawn in their backs, surely a classic tale of biting the hands of the ones who fed you. Everyone is disappointed in the turn-out of this so called “peace process”. So many questions have been laid and left unanswered. Is BBL the only mean of achieving peace, is it all out war, or is it compromise? Compromise, it may sound cheesy but all successful relationships are a hundred percent compromise. Just like in this case; MILF must surrender all their ammunitions and start clearing up their faction so as to avoid unwanted movements that might just cripple the peace process; the government must make sure that all their moves must be in good faith and for the good of all its citizen, including AFP and PNP; the third party facilitators, be not biased; the general public, stop making hasty generalizations but continue to be watch dogs because as long as there is no evident change we serve as the check and balance. A the end of the day who does not want peace? The answer: those who are selfish. A voice of opinion from our humble publication: BBL is a good start, but it does not end there. For as long as there are people who have selfvested interest the outcome will still be the same – a half-baked peace.

Dubbed as the biggest loss of the government elite force in the history, a mission to serve arrest warrant for high-ranking terrorist led to the deaths of 44 members of the Special Action Force (SAF), 18 members of Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), 5 from Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF), several civilians and the death of Zulkifli Abdhi alias Marwan on January 25 at Mamasapano, Maguindanao. According to reports, there were predicaments in the chain of command and there were pin pointing who really gave the go signal to attack the targets.

fewer lives could have been lost. Also, the president could have displayed stronger leadership in the rescue of the SAF commandos had he been given accurate information.

On a televised address on January 28, President Benigno Aquino III said that the MILF should identify those who were involved in the killing of the members of the SAF, return the SAF members’ guns and personal belongings, and allow the government to continue the operation against the terrorists. However, although PNoy admitted that there was a lack of coordination among the government forces and the MILF, he was not able to explain why Department of Internal and Local Government (DILG) secretary Mar Roxas and Philippine National Police (PNP) officer-in-charge Leoardo Espina were not notified about the operation beforehand, instead, suspended PNP chief Alan Purisima personally knew of the operations evidently seen on his exchange of message with the president.

The BOI said that they will not make any amendment on their findings because they believe that the president has no liability for what he did. Well, they just admitted that PNoy only bypassed the chain of command. This is just a simple equation: The President is the commander-in-chief; the Mamasapano clash that spent the lives of the 44 SAF troopers is because of a misencounter; a misencounter is because of a wrong command; and so because every command came from the commander-in-chief that is, unfortunately, PNoy who trusted and continuously communicated a PNP chief that is suspended because of graft. Seriously now? The President listened to a person with graft case for an important mission involving our national security? Really?

Obviously, PNoy assented to Purisima’s unlawful exercise of official function and continued to communicate with him in regards to the mission. Had he and key security discussed the incident and shared information clearly and openly in the early stages of the tragic day, coordination between the Army and PNP might have been hasted and

“So always think, before you click,” an excerpt from the answer of Binibining Pilipinas Universe 2015 Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach that drawn applause and screams from the audience at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. It was her third time to join in the prestigious competition. She was Bb. Pilipinas 2013 first runner-up and was part of the top 15 back in 2014. At the age of 25, she is already a professional model and a culinary arts graduate. She is a perfect example that we shouldn’t give up easily on things we want. No matter how hard it gets, just always keep your heads up and strive for it. After long years of waiting, the men’s volleyball team of Ateneo De Manila University finally achieved the glorious title they have been waiting. It was a tight match between the National University (NU) Bulldogs (being the two-time defending champion) and the Ateneo Blue Eagles. Though they know that their opponent was not that easy to trample, they still managed to keep the faith and hope that they will triumph though the odds were not in favor to them. Recently, SPCBA celebrated its 29th Foundation Anniversary and it highlighted the most anticipated event of the year—Ambassadors of Goodwill: Mr. and Ms. SPCBA

After a series of investigation, the Board of Inquiries (BOI) recently released their report saying that PNoy bypassed the chain of command after consistently communicating with the suspended chief but pointed out that the BIFF alone are the ones who murdered and robbed the SAF troopers.

Saying that the president only bypassed the chain of command is a fallacy involving “suppression of facts”. Suppression of facts in a way that an important fact that is relevant to an issue is omitted. So I guess they should not only say that: The President bypassed the chain of command, but instead, tell everyone that the President bypassed the chain of command and is liable for the “misencounter”.

2015. The pageant presented 16 outstanding candidates from the different departments. Business Administration grabbed the Mr. SPCBA title and Education Department seized the MS. SPCBA title. At a young age, everyone exemplified exceptional potentials in areas such as talents, skills and intellect. It is just only a proof that SPCBA students are not just about the looks but they value more the content rather than the outside appearance. On January 25, 2015, 44 of the Philippine National Police-Special Action Force (PNP-SAF) were killed during their encounter with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) in Mamasapano, Maguindanao. Only one of the SAF police commandos survived and he described the way how the MILF massacred his fellow SAF officers. “It was animalistic”, he said. Now, the families of the slain policemen are seeking justice for inhuman death of their loved ones, mainly from the Chief Executive. Mr. President, where is the ‘tuwid na daan’ you promised when you were starting your presidential term? It wasn’t ‘tuwid na daan’ after all. You only care about how other countries see the Philippines but you don’t care about the Filipino people. Maybe, in terms of economic progress, you are remarkable, but the justice in the Philippines is still a major problem that no one has ever implemented a solution yet.

IPHONE WATCH Looking for a new techie stuff? Then Iphone Watch is for you! The Apple Watch is coming in six different versions: the Apple Watch, the Apple Watch Sport and the Apple Watch Edition. And each of these comes in two sizes, for those that like a larger or smaller device for their wrist. It features the Digital Crown that is essentially a scroll wheel that lets you zoom in and out of the interface, so for apps (with a fun new home screen that looks nothing like the iPhone's version, more a spherical look at all the apps available on the watch) it's a new way of doing things. The spherical interface is going to take some getting used to. The demos showed a slightly tricky method of hitting the right area to open the app you want, leading to needing to use the Digital Crown more often than not. The button below the Digital Crown serves two functions: one to take you to your contacts, and the other to work as a way into activating the Watch as a payment vehicle. The contacts app allows you to send things through to your friends that go beyond the normal messaging paradigm. And it's been updated: it's now a circular dial to track through your best buddies, and it works a lot better than just tapping their faces in rows. That said, the Apple Watch is adept at doing the basic smartwatch things: you can make and receive calls from your wrist (with mic and speaker) and it will scan messages coming in to work out if it can generate an easy response for you to tap.

STUPID IS FOREVER

Another book proved that Filipino’s sense of humor never dies. This time, it was proven by a truly talented senator, Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago. The book was released few months ago yet it still topped as the number 1 bestseller in most bookstores. The book contains the senator’s latest compilation of one-liners, jokes, and speeches. Some of the one-liners and jokes featured in the book may seem familiar to some, as they were delivered during televised hearings and press conferences, and even graduation ceremonies. The book is also worth reading. Many of the jokes are social commentaries on the countries’ political, economic, and educational landscape. The book is divided into six sections that you will surely look forward to: Wicked, Asukal Ka, Ako ay Sago, Death Threats for Breakfast, Out -of-Notebook Experience, The Worst Thing about Being Married, and Miriam on Miriam. It is a good reminder not to take things too seriously-even our politics.

This medal of valor is posthumously awarded to Lt. Mariano C. Dela Cruz for exhibiting gallantry and bravery in performing his duty for the country. Though he died in the midst of the battlefield, rest assured that the fight where he fought to his last breath will also be the same fight that will bring forth peace to our nation. Here to accept the medal is his wife, Mrs. Janina M. Dela Cruz… At parang gusto naming i-take nalang ulit next sem. Hay. Bakit kaya ganu’n?

“Hija?” Bigla siyang tumayo at nagpunas ng luha. “Palabas na rin po ako. Pasensya na po.” “May problema ba? Natahimik sya sandali. “Buntis po kasi ako.” Nagulat ako sa aking narinig. Pero hindi ko to ipinahalata sa kanya. Patuloy akong nakinig. Habang may buhay, may pag-asa. Panibagong mukha, panibagong kwento.

After almost six years of negotiation, Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao and Floyd “Pretty Boy” Mayweather had finally made an agreement to make their much-awaited fight happen in the Las Vegas MGM Grand Garden Arena which will take place on May 2. It had been on January when boxing fans almost lost hope for the fight to become a reality when the two camps accused each other for hindering the final agreement in the fight. Mayweather announced last December that he will be willing to fight Pacquiao on May 2 but various issues had risen which seemed to have stalled the negotiation. However, after the two were seen watching the same NBA Game live and were featured on the screenboards, the hopes had once more rekindled. Weeks after that, news about confirming the details of Pacquiao and Mayweather’s upcoming fight hit the mainstream. The conditions for the fight was also revealed. According to reports, Manny and Floyd agreed to have random drug test before and after the fight. It was also reported that both camps had agreed that Mayweather will have the 60% cut in the game while Pacquiao is willing to have the smaller cut of 40%. Regarding this agreement, Mayweather said on his interview, “You lost twice and now you’re coming back begging for the same money?” Further, Mayweather also demand for rematch if he lose the fight, but did not give Pacquiao the right for rematch if he loses the fight. Boxing analysts had been saying that Pacquiao is the underdog in their fight, so, why do

Pretty Boy had to impose such demands if he knows that he has the advantage in their fight? Well, as we all know, Pacman is really a threat to Pretty Boy’s boxing record. Pacman can be the first boxer to defeat Mayweather. So, we can’t blame Pretty Boy for getting so afraid to the People’s Champ.

As for Pacquiao, he stressed that he will try his best to make the fight thrilling and entertaining, but, he is doubtful that Mayweather will engage him in a slugfest. He then continued, “You all know his fighting style. Most of his previous fights, if not all, induced us to sleep.” Though statements from the two boxers had been hitting the headlines, the boxing analysts, critiques, and fans are more looking forward for the fight. In the end, this fight that will etch history is not about Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather alone, this is about legacy, about making the fans happy, and for the good of boxing.
