Fitness & Exercise Coaching Fit Tips Commit to a Healthier Lifestyle in 2017!!! Are you tired of making the same New Year’s Resolution each year about your health and fitness? One of the most effective ways to staying committed to your goals is to change the way you think about your health and making movement part of your daily living. I’m talking about a lifestyle commitment.

Here are some tips to staying focused and committed to your goals all year round.  Schedule you in your day by making your health a Priority, you are IMPORTANT!  Proper Preparation Prevents Poor Performance: It’s important to prepare, plan and organize your healthy lifestyle. Prepare and plan your weekly schedule. Prep your meals for the week on weekends or on a day that is ideal for you and your household. If you have children incorporate them into your plans. Make them feel part of the process. This is good practice for kids as they learn positive modeled behavior for healthy living.  Use resources such as apps to stay on track and organized. Apps are great tools to plan and schedule your workouts as well as tracking your nutrition. Recommended free apps to download on your phone are: o Lose it: www.loseit.com o MyFitnessPal Calorie Counter & Diet Tracker: www.myfitnesspal.com o MapMyFitness Workout Tracker: www.mapmyfitness.com o Livestrong Diet, Nutrition & Fitness Tips: www.livestrong.com o MyNetDiary: www.mynetdiary.com

Fitness & Exercise Coaching Fit Tips (cont.)  Get in tune with your body: Recognize and understand how your body responds to exercise during a certain time of day. If you are a morning person it may be convenient to workout during that time of day. Find a time that’s suitable for you.  Try Something New: Staying motivated and excited about your workouts can be discouraging. Being open to a variety of workouts helps keep you engaged and interested. Find something you enjoy that makes you want to come back for more but challenging enough to give results.  You are your biggest challenge, avoid SELF-SABOTAGING: Do not allow or give reason not to workout. Make NO EXCUSES!  Change your self-talk: Use positive words to keep you motivated. Your body hears every negative thought and word you speak.  Use your ENTOURAGE for support: Your entourage is your team who supports your healthy choices. Reminding you of your commitment to your healthy lifestyle goals. If working out with someone helps keep you motivated find someone who is just as committed as you are.  Stay away from ENABLERS and STILL people: Those are people who are not supportive of your goals and are okay with their current lifestyle you no longer support. They have no desire or interest in committing to a healthy lifestyle. Surround yourself around likeminded people.  Show ACCOUNTABILITY for your commitment to a healthier lifestyle: Behavior change contracts can be effective and functions as a promise to dedicate yourself to this lifetime commitment.  Periodically review your health goals: Set realistic short and long-term goals. Post them in a place where you can see them daily. Track your progress and reward yourself with positive incentives. Some of the best incentives are a trip to the day spa, a mini vacation, and a new pair of shoes or outfit.  Most Importantly Celebrate You: Never skip a Monday and finish strong on Fridays. Don’t wait until you reach a goal to be proud of yourself. Be proud to have made the commitment to LIVE!

Are You Ready For Love? Written By: Beverly Haynes

Is your New Year’s resolution to find it? Will it be on your Valentine’s Wish list? Many people will answer yes to these questions, but here’s another question to consider…. Are you ready for love? Often times, when we say we want love we’re thinking about the positive side of being in a relationship. The good things like romantic dinners, weekend get-a-ways, cuddle time, and all around fun. We don’t consider the not-so-good parts like heated disagreements, unreturned calls/texts, or angry words and actions. So, the question remains, are you prepared for a relationship? Are you able to think in terms of “we” versus “me”? What qualities are you able to contribute to create a strong relationship and what are your expectations for your potential mate? How will you handle conflict? What are your relationship deal breakers? Have you let go of the negative residue of past relationships? These are just a few questions that one must consider during singlehood. Here are a couple tips for relationship preparation to consider: Let past relationships stay in the past. It is unbecoming to bring old hurts into a new relationship. Why punish your current or future mate for things that someone else did to you? Become the best version of you right now. We attract who we are, so why wait until you get with someone before focusing on bettering you? Work on becoming the best communicator. There is no guarantee in relationships, but you can do your part to create a strong, positive foundation. This increases your likelihood of having a successful relationship

Partners may be married or not, heterosexual, gay or lesbian, living together, separated, or dating. It crosses the boundaries of age, socio-economic status, religion, race, ethnicity, and nationality.
