FROM THE EDITOR

THE 2017 MONSTER 797 DARK

T

he first motorcycle that I truly fell in love with was the 2005 Ducati Monster 620 Dark. I saw it and fell in love with her tank, her lines and her color. That matte black just did me in. I had to have her and so I bought her. She was my first brand new bike. Until then, I had purchased quality used machines. The Monster, however, I needed to see those zeros on the odometer, I had to be the one to break her in. To me, she represented a raw and naked state of undeniable two wheel passion. At standstill, she looked like a sexy reclining Italian female model. She was more than easy on the eyes and had my heart revving, bouncing off of the limiter. My blood would be boiling with anticipation before every ride. I just wanted to straddle her and see what that throttle would do. In motion, she was something from another world… Intoxicating, passionate, the chemistry was palpable. I loved that bike. And I still do.

14 | SPORTBIKESINCMAG.COM

As my collection of rides began to grow, I eventually sold her to make room. I regret it to this day. I should have held on to her. I consider her to be the one that got away. I made a promise to myself that I would one day buy her again. Sporadically, I would check online for any prospects but would never find anything that I needed to jump on. Then, Ducati did me a solid. They announced the release of the 2017 Monster 797 in a Dark color way. When I saw the image of her, the same feeling cascaded over me… It was like I was back in 2005, drooling over the showroom floor at Fast By Ferracci. Fortunately, since that time when I sold my first Monster, I’ve learned a valuable lesson. And that’s what the moral of this memory is: Never replace your bikes to make space… Simply make more space. Best, Allan allan@sportbikesincmag.com

THE SHOW: MONSTER BUSA

R

andy Dooley’s Suzuki Hayabusa is nothing to sleep on. Literally. And if you needed a reminder, the custom theme of his bike serves as such. Dubbed the Monster Busa, Dooley’s affinity with the Monster Energy comes to life in two wheel form. Built by Dooley and Dwayne Pendergrass over eight months, the build started off with a 1999 first generation Hayabusa as a platform, purchased by Dooley for $3000.00. The Hayabusa was the fastest production motorcycle when it was introduced in 1999. It truly was a powerhouse, nothing short of a beast. Dooley nursed his Busa back to health as it was not in the best running shape when he purchased it. He then transformed his beast into the Monster Busa with thorough execution of concept that included a popping Monster Energy Drink green paint job by Demarcus Streeter, with accessories that worked in harmony with the vision. The 14 inch over stock Diamond Cut 240 swing arm kit from C and S Custom paired with the Tornado Wheels from All Thing Chrome give the Monster a strong ground connection while the Diamond Cut Dress Up Kit from Redline Cycles set a most proper contrast at the cluster gauge. The Monster Busa received a tank and tail swap with parts from a 2012 Hayabusa as well as a booming sound system with a JL Audio amp and JL Audio C2 Speakers that are strategically placed on top of the air indication covers and under tail. It is important to note that a builder can easily get carried away with a Monster Energy Drink theme… We’ve seen it happen. What works about Dooley’s Monster Busa is the fact that it remains a complete and solid build, from the paint to the parts. No under thoughts nor over thoughts. Dooley’s trophy count proves the point. Since the bike has been completed, it has been entered in several custom bike competitions, taking top honors along the way. We have a strong feeling that the Monster Busa is just the beginning for Randy Dooley and his crew.

ho doesn't like a party? That is one of the few things in life that is universal. No matter what country you hail from, economic background, etc... A party is a party. When you're a child, it usually involves cake and punch and gifts. When you're an adult, the punch is spiked but there are still gifts to be had. The one thing a party has in common, no matter where you go, is that it's fun. Or at least that's the goal. The Valencia round is the last stop on the MotoGP calendar. Everyone involved with GP has always told me, "Go to Valencia!" To show you the level of smarts you're dealing with here, did I go to the end of season party where riders blow off steam and beautiful women are in abundance hoping to catch that steam? Nope! I went to Phillip Island, Australia and froze my marbles off! But you've already read about that, so let's move on. The Valencia round is perhaps the most perculiar GP of them all. It literally is the ending and the genesis, all packed into one weekend. Championships are sometimes decided on this weekend. Sunday can be the realization of a dream or end in heartache, all to be erased the following Tuesday, either with a new team and a new bike or with the same team, a new bike and a hangover from Sunday. Which makes Valencia The WalMart of GP's... It's got everything you want in a GP all packed into a week of motorcycle mania! Who could forget last year's race that saw Jorge Lorenzo claim his fifth world title, a title many had thought Valentino Rossi would claim and had left many a race fan, yours truly included, with a bitter taste in their mouth.

JORGE LORENZO 40 | SPORTBIKESINCMAG.COM

Fast forward to 2016! All the championships had been claimed weeks prior, all the seats had been claimed for 2017, which meant riders could let it all hang out and go for it! No playing it safe for points, just a good 'ole

fashioned free for all and that's exactly what we got. When you have a situation were everyone is pretty much on equal terms, the cream always rises to the top! In the support classes that's what happened as champions Brad Binder and Johann Zarco showed why they are champions as both claimed final victories in their perspective classes as both are moving up. Binder moving up to Moto2 and Zarco moving to MotoGP. This set the stage for MotoGP and it did not disappoint. The backstory had already been set. Marc Marquez had already captured his fifth world title earlier in the season but had crashed in the last three races and wanted to leave the last race of the season with a positive result. The rest of the field was basically playing musical chairs as everyone was moving to different teams, most notably Jorge Lorenzo to Ducati after nine seasons with Yamaha. Lorenzo made no bones about wanting to leave on a victory and that's what he did. Once the flag dropped, Lorenzo said bye bye, leaving the best racing of the afternoon to Marquez, Rossi, Iannone and Maverick Vinales. All these riders fought like the Crips versus the Bloods for a podium spot, mainly trying to outrun the power of the Ducati down the straight.

BRAD BINDER

It was Marquez who was able to break free from the grasps of the Ducati and although down 4.3 seconds to Lorenzo, made it a little dramatic as he finished 1.7 behind Lorenzo at the finish line leaving Andreas Ianonne outdueling fellow countryman Valentino Rossi. It was Lorenzo who was the talk of the weekend. On a great day, with everything near perfect, Lorenzo is unbeatable. The fact that he is going to a manufacturer known for having the most powerful engine on the grid but not exactly the most nimble of bikes should make 2017 very interesting. After the dust settled and the parties cleaned SPORTBIKESINCMAG.COM | 41

up, it was time for testing for the 2017 season. Testing in a nutshell is like a new school year. Everyone has on their new clothes, pencils sharpened, notebooks opened and are more than willing to please their new teachers and Maverick Vinales was that student!

JOHANN ZARCO

Moving over to Yamaha and essentially taking Lorenzo's place, Vinales showed why he's the hottest property in MotoGP as he led the time sheets on day one. Not to be outdone, Lorenzo had gone the fastest he's ever gone on a bike down the straight. Topping the time sheets on their brand new machines were Vinales, Marquez and Rossi. 2016 was the best year in the history of MotoGP with nine different riders taking victory. All three classes combined, there were 25 different winners. With KTM joining MotoGP for 2017 with two young hungry lions, Pol Esparago and Bradley Smith, MotoGP promises to be better than ever. The story lines and plot make out almost like a movie. Will Marquez finally get the bike he wants so he can dominate as he did in 2014? Will Vinales be a legitimate threat for a title? Can Rossi fight off Father Time for one more year and claim his tenth title or will his former teammate hold all the cards with his move to Ducati? Enjoy your Holidays, rest up because MotoGP promises to be better than ever! SPORTBIKESINCMAG.COM | 45

Comfort explained. Our technique combines a specifically formulated viscoelastic polymer also known as SaddleGEL with the latest in co-molding comfort technology to reduce engine vibration transmitted to your body by up to 50%, and reduce direct impact forces by up to 92%.

Shock and Vibration are the real world forces acting on

your body that cause rider discomfort and fatigue. Take a moment and think about your last

ride and ask yourself – Are rough roads and constant vibration cheating me out of the ride I deserve? If the answer is yes, you owe it to yourself to read on and learn more about what GELcore Technology can do for you. Newton’s third law of motion states that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. Understanding the forces acting on your body while riding is critical to understanding why homogenous polyurethane foam seats developed in the late 1940’s and probably on your motorcycle right now are preventing the extended ride times you desire. Saddlemen uses science to change everything by offering a complete line of seats featuring our unique manufacturing process known as GELcore Technology. GELcore is engineered to dampen, divert, and deflect energy through a mechanical process resulting in a smooth, therapeutic ride.

54 | SPORTBIKESINCMAG.COM

Saddlemen invented GELcore Technology and today we are widely recognized as the industry leader, selling more gel seats than any other seat manufacture. However when it comes to the benefits of gel don’t take our word for it. NASA uses gel to protect sensitive camera equipment on the Space Shuttle Discovery as it pierces the Earth’s atmosphere at 17,000 mph. NASA also uses gel to keep the International Space Station in orbit, gel is currently used in the medical industry for Wheelchairs and Hospital beds to proWheel mote blood flow, and major league baseball mitt manufactures utilize this cutting edge material to dampen the impact of a 100mph fast ball. Instead of relying on foam cushions or air bladders that may impose improper contours, a riding saddle with GELcore Technology provides a topographically neutral suspension that will conform to the shape of the person who sits in it. Using pres sure-mapping technology, we experimented with different tensions across the backrests and seats, fine-tuning our designs to produce the desirable distribution patterns: peak pressure zones under the ischia, with wide distribution of lower values along the thighs and across the back, avoiding the spine and the area behind the knees.

tarting at a young age and having a grandfather and a father that were always around motorcycles, it was prone that one day Kevon himself would be following in those same footsteps. His first time being on a motorcycle was at the age of about three. I remember him sitting on the tank of his dad's motorcycle in the yard as he was about to take him for his first ride. That was not only a moment of remembrance for his first ride but also as the beginning of a father an son bond in the world of motorcycles. Spencer Crawford had been prepping Kevon for his debut of riding his first motorcycle but no one really

knew how soon that time would come. From riding his own personal crotch rocket around to doing his burn outs at Budds Creek, he was slowly being groomed as racer in the making. He slowly began to upgrade to four wheelers and later to dirt bikes. The more that he rode, the more that he became comfortable and he became more an more addicted to the rush and the speed of riding. While constantly being surrounded in a motorcycle dragracing environment and watching racers, Kevon began to idolize Richard Gadson's riding skills and how people loved and admired him. He took very well to Terrell Jackson, AKA Lil Jack, because Terrell would let him ride the bikes back from the pits to the trailer and would give him pointers, always encouraging him. big notice of Joey Gladstone in Budds Creek while watching him ride in the Pro Street class. He would always take off running to the staging lane any time he heard the name Joey over the intercom. SBI: Describe the feeling when getting the news that your dad was building you a dragbike? KC: I could not have been more excited and to be able to take part in putting it together and just getting the bike ready to ride with my dad made the experience more memorable. SBI: What did it feel like on its very first pass on the track? KC: It was an exciting rush. It felt so good. I just wanted to keep making more passes over and over again in order to get better. 64 | SPORTBIKESINCMAG.COM

SBI: You were 14 years old your first time on the track. Did anything scare you about reaching 150 miles an hour in the quarter mile? KC: No. I used to be nervous about whether or not the bike would wheelie but after I had my first and adjusted… I am over that fear. SBI: What do you prefer to race, the quarter mile or the one eighth mile? KC: Definitely the quarter mile because I’m able to go a lot faster. I guess the more speed, the higher rush. SBI: With all of the knowledge and assistance that you’ve received from Richard Gadson, are you ready to take on the adventure of Grudge and Bracket Racing in 2017? KC: Yes sir! I’m ready for the challenge. I think that I’m ahead of the game for being such a young age.

THE LIFE

THE LION’S DEN: I NEED A REFILL

WORDS: LION JAMES IMAGES: LION JAMES//ALLAN LANE

A

s the sun rises on another 24 hours here in the Northeast, the leaves are changing color and falling from the trees, the wind has a crisp chill in the early hours of the day and I know that it will get dark earlier tonight than it did last night. It's cooler out in the evening and the motorists snuggled warm and dry in their four wheeled cages are looking for us less as they settle into their distracted driving complacence for the fall and winter. The more the colors and vibrant energy is drained from the landscape, so too is my enthusiasm for attending motorcycle events and going for rides. I was concerned that this decline in energy and motivation to throw a leg over was influenced purely by the change in season and temperature but the more I thought about it the more I realized that this has been building inside me since well before the mercury started to dip. I have recognized that our participation in the motorcycle community, our presence on the road, our attendance at the professional races and our energy while socializing out in public has been on a gradual decline for years. As someone who has always relied on the collective energy and vibe of those around me in the two wheeled community to motivate myself, it is very disappointing to ride to a bike night and be only one of three attendees on two wheels. As a fan of 76 | SPORTBIKESINCMAG.COM

SPORTBIKESINCMAG.COM | 77

THE LIFE: THE LION’S DEN professional and semi pro motorcycle racing, it saddens me when I see so many empty parking spaces at the paddock or empty seats in the bleachers at my local track. I can recall a time when my left hand spent more time waving to fellow riders on the road than it did on the grip but lately I can travel for miles and miles without seeing another motorcyclist where I ride. How are motorcycle sales on the rise but our presence on the roads declining? Is there something I am missing? Was I not copied on the group message about the ride slowing up? Perhaps I am not riding in the right areas or time of year, I ride the entire calendar, or maybe I’ve gotten so used to the ride and other motorcyclists that I don’t even realize how many of us there really are out here. For the sake of argument let’s say that I am underestimating how many motorcyclists are still on the road with me. That doesn’t explain the declining turnout at dealership hosted events, professional race weekends, pro racer meet and greet events or motorcycle club parties, rides and charitable events. Deciding to show up to an event that has been organized for the motorcycling community is not like heading to the voting polls to choose between two candidates who are both equally undesirable as leaders. If your local motorcycle dealership is opening their doors and lot to you in an effort to support you and provide you with an environment rich in motorcyclists and motorcycles for socializing, enjoying food and music or special sales on merchandise, bikes and gear, why not take advantage and show your support back by attending? If you live in or near a state fortunate enough to have a track that hosts a professional race or two, as a motorcyclist you are doing yourself a disservice by not attending and watching a race. If you have misconceptions about motorcycle clubs be they outlaw, race oriented or what I like to call “family first clubs” and they have chosen not to exclude you or have extended you an invitation to attend their party, group ride or outdoor festivities... I urge you to broaden your two wheeled horizons and meet some great people, shake a few hands and get to know the MC community more intimately instead of judging based on what you see on television. By doing any of these you may make a new friend, discover a new passion and have some fun. I am concerned that at the rate the energy is diminishing in the two wheeled community, in a few years I will be all alone riding among cars and trucks devoid of my fellow two wheeled warriors like some sort of post apocalyptic motorcycle wasteland.

78 | SPORTBIKESINCMAG.COM

Am I exaggerating? Sure, but let not my very valid point be overshadowed by my being dramatic. My desire to ride recently and the boost I get from the community around me, that I head out on two to be among, is like water filling up my cup. Just two or three years ago my cup runneth over, but lately I am thirsty. I need a refill and there’s nothing to quench my thirst quite like riding with and among you all. I want to go out to events, races and parties and see you again, meet you for the first time and know I am in good company. I want to throw a leg over and know I am gonna exchange “the wave” with you no matter what time of day I head out or what season the calendar on the wall says it’s supposed to be. I want to look forward to riding like I used to. Is it a coincidence that I have become aware of this missing feeling at the same time many motorcyclists start to go into two wheeled hibernation? I cannot say for sure nor am I convinced that I am alone in this feeling. If I am the only one who thinks there is something missing then the problem is mine alone and despite the solo experience that riding a motorcycle is, I never want to be alone in this love of motorcycles. This love is bigger than me. This love is to be shared so let’s all do the group thang shall we? Let’s ride again and let’s go out and enjoy all that the motorcycling community has to offer. I know that everything is not for everyone and I by no means intend for all to go everywhere. Hell! There are events, rides, parties and races that I have no interest in being a part of but those select few very specific instances is where my motorcycle apathy ends. If you’ve attended any of the MotoAmerica racing series races held at New Jersey Motorsports Park, then chances are you and I have crossed paths, met or sat in the same grandstands to watch a race. If you’ve ever been to Clutch Control in Philadelphia, PA then you and I may very well have spoken, you purchased a R.I.D.E. Band from me or have seen my motorcycle club back patch, if you ride anywhere up and down the east coast it is not beyond reasonable to think that you and I have waved to one another on any road USA at some point in the last decade plus. If we have crossed paths before let’s do it again and if we haven’t let’s meet up either on the road or off the bike at an event, race or party but I need to feel that sense of community again. If you are all out there and I am out here we need to link up and make this space smaller. Meet me at the next dealership bash and let’s discuss which manufacturer makes the best bike. Call me up to go on your next ride with you so I can become a better motorcyclist because I am sure you have something to teach me. If you plan

on attending the next MotoAmerica or MotoGP race, riding down to Daytona for bike week or camping out in Sturgis for the rally, I’ll buy you a beer and let’s take a picture together to post on social media. When I say “me” I mean anyone in the motorcycle community because we need to come together and

boost the energy out here. The next person you meet while enjoying this love of ours might as well be me and the next person I meet might as well be you reading this right now. Until me meet where rubber reaches street, ride safe and often and quench this thirst of mine because I need a refill. SPORTBIKESINCMAG.COM | 79

A

s many of us have closed the books on another year of track riding, we now have a few months to pause and reflect on the season. While 2016 is still fresh in your mind, I would like to invite you to run some laps around your favorite track in your head as you read this article. Before you start filling all your spare time with winter sports and holiday trips, I want to be sure that you remember all the bike upgrades and road trips you were longing for when riding season was in full swing. As an avid track rider, I know that a few ideas on dropping my lap times is often all it takes. Cutting fast laps around a racetrack is a challenge that requires riders to filter through dozens of simultaneous bits of information at once. Most singular techniques are easy to understand and optimize. The biggest challenge is that riders must learn to focus on the one or two bits of data that will help them solve their most important problem at that moment. The sheer volume of variables can certainly be overwhelming. The average corner only lasts a few seconds, but in that time a rider makes an

impressive number of decisions. Here’s a short “starter” list of 20 items that rider might need to evaluate for some combination of location, magnitude & duration for any single turn. • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • •

Pre-Brake body position Throttle shut off Entrance trajectory Downshifts and clutch action Initial bar input Brake application Body support during braking Ultimate brake force Apex trajectory Trail braking Minimum roll speed Brake release Major bar input Body position and weight support at full lean Lean angle Bar release Initial throttle roll on Exit target Body position on the drive Exit throttle roll on rate

We can sort the list of 20 actions into two major categories; Primary and Dependent. Primary targets are determined by first focusing on the goal of each corner. When executed properly, Primary actions increase traction and then allow you to optimize the Dependent actions that drop your lap times. They become the building blocks for your lines and the basis for evaluating all of your other actions. Proper lines do not make you faster, they only ALLOW you to go faster. Speed comes by altering Dependent items to utilize the extra traction to brake later, carry more roll speed or get on the gas sooner. Step one is to determine how you should attack a given corner and there are four basic corner types to consider. Not every corner fits neatly into one of these boxes, but a majority can be easily categorized.

1. Entrance Focused Corner a. Typical layout – High speed entrance with very little drive on the exit b. Common example – Braking zones that lead to a left/right combination 2. Roll Speed Focused Corner (the dominant On an average track with 12 turns, this turns corner type) into hundreds of micro decisions per lap. In a. Typical Layouts addition, a rider must evaluate track conditions, i. Fast corners. If roll speed is high enough other riders, available traction, suspension that wheel spin is not a concern, then focus action, fuel mapping, shift points and (on many 100% on keeping speed up. modern motorcycles) both traction and wheelie ii. Connection corners. Corners that involve control settings. It’s not hard to see what it less than 25% effort in both braking on the way takes a lifetime to truly master motorcycling! in and acceleration on the way out. b. Common examples – High speed Our road to mastery starts by considering the sweepers or the middle turn of a Left/Right/Left most critical items first. The best two wheeled combination pilots simplify the complexity of riding by 3. Drive Focused Corner focusing on maximizing traction where it is a. Typical layout – A corner that leads to a needed most. If our goal is to ride corners as long straight that has a mid-corner speed low fast as possible with the lowest risk, then riders enough that traction is an issue need to look for feedback centered on lowering b. Common example – most 2nd or 3rd gear that risk in the area deemed most critical in that corners that lead to long straights corner. 4. Transitional Corner SPORTBIKESINCMAG.COM | 91

IMPROVE YOUR SKILLS: THE BIG THREE

RIDERS NEED TO FOCUS WHERE THE SPEED IS. CREATE TRACTION WHERE IT IS NEEDED MOST. IN ENTRANCE FOCUSED CORNERS RIDERS WANT TO KEEP THE BIKE UPRIGHT TO ALLOW FOR HARD BRAKING AS DEEP AS POSSIBLE INTO THE CORNER.

92 | SPORTBIKESINCMAG.COM

SPORTBIKESINCMAG.COM | 93

IMPROVE YOUR SKILLS: THE BIG THREE a. Typical Layout – A longer corner that has a period of “maintenance throttle” in between your major turn and the start of your drive b. Common Example – Most corners that are 135 to 180 degrees long In summary, riders need to focus where the speed is. Create traction where it is needed most. In entrance focused corners riders want to keep the bike upright to allow for hard braking as deep as possible into the corner. For roll speed corners, riders strive make the largest circular arc that they can through the corner and then focus on keeping the bike as upright as possible. For drive focused corners, riders try to get the bike up on the center of the tire and on the throttle as early as possible. In transitional corners, the entrance and exit are separated by the maintenance zone. As such, riders will transition smoothly from an entrance focus strategy under braking, to roll a speed strategy while carving and a drive focused strategy on the exit. In process of blending these together, none of these approaches is taken to an extreme. With the corner properly categorized, riders can then quickly whittle down the list of 20 items to the critical few (The Big Three). The most important Primary items to identify are the entrance trajectory, the apex trajectory and the throttle application point. These three decisions ensure that you are working to maximize traction where it is needed most, and your 17 other Dependent items will all be adjusted with each lap to help you increase speed and drop lap times. If your changes of any one of the 17 Dependent items cause you to miss one of your Primary targets, then you need to re-evaluate that change. For example, let’s consider a pure entrance focused corner. Our goal in this case 94 | SPORTBIKESINCMAG.COM

is to provide as much grip for entrance speed and braking as possible. The drive does not matter in this corner type. The more we can delay our bar input deeper into the corner, the later we can brake. Our entrance trajectory (Primary item #1) needs to be as straight as it can be so that our braking traction is maximized. When evaluating your Dependent items (throttle roll off, braking effort, turn initiation), it becomes very easy to determine success or failure. Anything (line, body position, initial turn in, etc..) that causes you to prematurely release the brakes or increase bar effort needs correction. Anything that gives more grip for braking or releases turning pressure is heading in the right direction. You will then increase your entrance speed more and more until you are no longer able to achieve your Apex trajectory (Primary Item #2). Your throttle application point (Primary Item #3) is the benchmark for roll speed, and in general should be immediately after your biggest bar input. Evaluating your application point will be a sure-fire indictor if you have executed your turn in the location you intended to. The beauty of mastering the Big Three is that it removes the doubts and hesitations that come from wondering if your lines, body positions and inputs are correct. If you understand the goal in a given corner (what traction am I seeking to maximize) and then establish your three Primary targets, you then know exactly what feedback to look for as you learn the nuances of body position and riding techniques. Clarity increases confidence, confidence breeds speed, and speed feeds the addiction that keeps you coming back year after year. Until next time... Ride fast, ride safe!

here I was at The Mile in beautiful Santa Rosa California. Standing in the pits, my eyes glide over the luscious new Indian Scout FTR750. She has the fit and finish of a high quality limited production motorcycle. It would not be out of place in a showroom or at some concours d'elegance. It's a bike so beautiful that it even wowed my sportbike friends. One remarked, "Most flat track bikes are mean and maybe a bit crude but that Indian is just pure eye candy." True, most flat track bikes have a certain

workman like air about them. They are tools to do battle on. Warriors, not beauty queens. Most built in home garages and shops, after hours. But the new Indian is more than just a pretty face. It packs all the best of current technology: water cooling, double head overhead cam per bank, four valves per cylinder, fuel injection... And its a V Twin. The V Twin is perhaps the best engine layout for getting traction and that is what flat track racing is really about. It is also the first time in many years that a major manufacturer built a bike specially for flat

track. Keep in mind 1953 was the last year Indian had a race team. Years ago, Indian battled with Harley Davidson. Those races were epic, the stuff of legend. Now Indian wants to resume the war. As I suited up for my first run on the FTR750, I could not wipe the goofy grin off my face. Robert Pandya, the head P.R. guy for Indian pulled me to the side and said, "If you crash, either the bike will kill you or I will choke you out in the parking lot!" He was joking... Sort of. Being mindful, I realized he did not want me to hurt myself big time or wreck their bike. It's good to have people look out for you. Taking a bike that is capable of 140MPH on a dirt track should not to be taken lightly. 102 | SPORTBIKESINCMAG.COM

With all the revival of flat track racing and the hype around this Indian Scout FTR750, can a production street model be in the pipeline? At its first race, the FTR750 won the Dash for Cash race and finished well in the main event with the semi retired 47 year old Joe Kopp riding. A victory for Indian and 47 year old men everywhere.
