JEWISH LEARNING INSTITUTE The Rohr Jewish Learning Institute (JLI) is the largest institute of adult learning of its kind, teaching in over 300 cities around the world. JLI Courses in Flagstaff are taught by Rabbi Dovie Shapiro who leads students toward fresh thinking about the world in an environment that inspires feelings of hope, purpose, meaning, and value.

Community HOLIDAY CELEBRATIONS At Chabad of Flagstaff, all Jewish holidays are community affairs in every sense. Hundreds of people attend Chabad’s High Holiday services. The community joins in pride and solidarity for its public Menorah lightings at City Hall. A lively spirit of story and song captivates young and old at grand Purim extravaganzas, Community Passover Seders, Simchat Torah dance-a-thons, Sukkot and Lag BaOmer outdoor celebrations, and Friday night Shabbat dinners.

LIFE CYCLE EVENTS From birth to Brit Milah, Bar or Bat Mitzvah to marriage and through all the twists and turns of life, Chabad is always there to guide community members through the Jewish way of celebrating and marking each occasion. Officiating in the capacity of Rabbi and teachers, Chabad helps make the appropriate arrangements for every step of the way, tailored according to each individual’s needs.

CHAPLAINCY AND SOCIAL SERVICES Whether visiting the sick or the incarcerated, counseling the troubled, comforting the bereaved, or providing for the needy, Chabad opens its doors and its hearts to those in crisis or distress. Be it a helping hand, a comforting shoulder or a timely referral, Chabad discreetly dispenses love, wisdom, and support to all those in need. “Bikur Cholim—Helping Hands” of Flagstaff, which is comprised of dedicated community volunteers, is there to provide help and support to fellow Jews who are ill, homebound, isolated, or otherwise in distress. In addition, Rabbi Dovie Shapiro serves as a volunteer Chaplain at Flagstaff Medical Center and at Coconino County Detention Center.

A special junior congregation caters specifically to the up and coming generation so that even the young congregants can enjoy a meaningful and personalized experience. An important part of Shabbat is the Kiddush Luncheon that follows the Shabbat morning service, where friendships are created and nurtured and everyone’s special occasions are celebrated. 9

The Rohr Chabad Jewish Student Center prides itself on creating a “home away from home” for Jewish students at Northern Arizona University, welcoming them with the warmth of family. Chabad at NAU is able to reach many under-involved Jewish students and inspire a positive connection to Judaism and Israel.
