THE ROAD to success is exhausting, often lonely and famously unpaved. Yet it is this intrigue that draws thousands of passionate graduates and young professionals to Bucktown/Wicker Park for a thriving art scene and big city opportunities. Once here, young Jews face a unique challenge: will they find authentic and vibrant Jewish culture anywhere in this neighborhood?

Welcome to THE LIVING ROOM.
THIS IS OUR STORY. From pre-schools to Bar and Bat Mitzvahs, teen clubs to campus, Jewish communities invest in top-notch programming and leadership opportunities. But in the life’s limbo that follows college, neither student groups nor family-synagogues reach the young professional. Until now.
By 2008 the Chabad house was a lively lounge, library and Jewish life-scene for scores of graduates and professionals: the bridge from active campus connection to busy family and professional life.
Chabad introduced a vibrant trend of local Jewish life programs and events, including the hugely popular Wicker Purim celebration, First Friday Shabbat dinners, Torah-on-Tap study groups and the Holy Hour/ Happy Hour synangogue experience.

Today our unique community is ready to fully renovate The Living Room, welcoming a 360° Jewish life, culture and learning space: a bright and welcoming synagogue, dining room, library, art gallery, study space, rooftop party space and kosher restaurant. “Most of all, Chabad of Bucktown is a warm home after a long week. The new Living Room building will be a beacon to all Chicago Jews looking for a place to call home.”
—Josh Gertz
In 2010 bursting at the seams of our modest home, we purchased a 15,000 square foot building on Milwaukee Avenue, just a few feet from the legendary “Six Corners” intersection.

places BUCKTOWN / WICKER PARK Populated by young professionals, artists and musicians, West Town Chicago is widely considered home to the hippest community in Chicago. Its iconic “Six Corners” intersection is filled with chic restaurants, trendy bars, exclusive nightclubs, stylish boutiques and unique art galleries. The Living Room—the first and only Jewish life space in the area—is just a few feet away.
philosophies CHABAD is a Jewish movement begun in 18th century Russia. Its philosophy emphasizes meaningful growth from everyday existence, recognizing that there is a purpose to every creation and adding purpose to each day through active Mitzvahs and good deeds. In 1950, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson—“The Rebbe”—accepted leadership of Chabad. Today the global phenomenon is based in Brooklyn, NY and has over 3,300 religious, educational and social centers in 75 countries. Chabad of Bucktown is one of thirty centers in Illinois.
