Celebrating 70 Years Under the leadership and guidance of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem M. Schneerson, Chabad Lubavitch of France created and maintains a vast network of institutions and services that bring enrichment, joy and knowledge to the world’s third-largest Jewish population.

The Early Years Our educational and cultural programs began soon after the end of WWII, with economic and social services and religious and cultural education to Jewish people across France and North Africa. In Morocco alone, our school network grew to educate approximately 10,000 students, always true to the Lubavitch creed to welcome and provide assistance to all Jews, regardless of background or affiliation.

FOCUS ON FRANCE With the influx of immigration from Morocco, Tunisia, Algiers and Egypt, we shifted our attention to the cultural and social needs of the Jewish community in France. Notably, many of the 700,000 Jewish people that we serve today are first and second generation North African Jews, who benefited in one way or another from the programs and services Lubavitch provided in their countries of origin.

SEVENTY YEARS YOUNG Over the past 70 years, Lubavitch has grown steadily as a leading force within the Jewish community, catering to the broad range of needs that arise in from the isolated towns to bustling metropoles. Today, Lubavitch is the largest Jewish outreach and educational organization in France with more than 109 Chabad centers and over 8,000 children enrolled in our day schools.

LOOKING FORWARD The needs of the Jewish community are constantly growing and we look forward to accomplishing our sacred work. The present political situation in France is particularly difficult. Anti-Semitic acts and statements encouraging anti-Semitism have become routine. The Jewish community is struggling to overcome this terrible burden. Lubavitch is here to reassure, encourage and reinforce the conviction required to continue leading a confident Jewish life with a multitude of programs and activities.

Through the generosity of World Jewry, we are able to accomplish this vital task of ensuring the continuity and the future of European Jewry.

JEWISH DAY SCHOOLS A nationwide network of Jewish day schools from nursery through seminary with over 8000 children enrolled. A high academic level both in Torah and secular studies. Chabad schools are accredited by the minister of education and have acquired an excellent reputation.

EUROPEAN INSTITUTE The European Institute for Jewish Studies is a program for young adults to broaden their knowledge of our rich culture and heritage. Students from across Europe participate in our various programs in an all-inclusive atmosphere.

OUTREACH Reaching out to our brethren and offering everyone the possibility to learn and discover our rich culture and heritage. Individual and group study sessions on a weekly basis. Tefilin and Mezouzot are subsidized for those that cannot afford to purchase them on their own.

Our Programs

SUMMER CAMPS Chabad offers summer and winter day camps for children and young adults. Children have the chance to develop their personalities and capabilities in a unique Jewish environment of fun and friendship. It is an unforgettable experience. Many campers go on to enroll in a Jewish day school.

HOLIDAY PROGRAMS & WORKSHOPS Chabad prepares youngsters and their families for their important role in each upcoming holiday. Hands-on workshops and pre-holiday programs are attended by over 5,000 children and over 2,000 adults. Packages filled with holiday supplies are distributed to those in need.

RETREATS & SEMINARS Weekend retreats and seminars, give young adults, students and families the chance to live and learn in a Jewish environment, while enjoying a breath of fresh air. A perfect setting for showing youngsters the beauty and meaning of a Torah-true life.

COMMUNITY CENTERS Synagogues, schools, community centers, libraries, campgrounds and Mikvas (ritual baths)—Chabad is the largest outreach and educational organization in France and is privileged to direct 109 different outposts in this country.

CRISIS INTERVENTION & COUNSELING Chabad rabbis take part in professional training to guide families and individuals in their time of need, offering care, confidence and confidentiality. In situations where children cannot live at home, they have a home in one of our three dormitory facilities.

JOB TRAINING Chabad offers a Torah study program for young men alongside an intense computer training program. Graduates lead fulfilling Jewish lives, applying their skills and talents in the work place while continuing to participate in Chabad community life. We offer job preparation and placement for our students.

GOVERNMENT RELATIONS Chabad schools are recognized by the Minister of Education and follow the department’s guidelines for secular studies. Several Chabad rabbis serve as chaplains in the various branches of the French army and prisons.

HOLIDAY AWARENESS Public awareness and understanding of Jewish custom and faith is an essential part of our culture and heritage. Public Menorah lightings and Menorah parades are a familiar site throughout France. Radio programs and public advertising help spread the message.

FRANCE & ISRAEL Chabad of France works closely with Jewish organizations in Israel and has helped many Jews from France adapt to their new home in Israel.

PUBLICATIONS DEPARTMENT We publish a continuous catalogue of books that bring our rich culture and heritage to Jews of all ages and to French-speakers throughout the world. These include educational books, books on the holidays, prayer books, and story books that recount our past including the great leaders of the Jewish nation.
