CONEJO JEWISH ACADEMY WINTER/SPRING SEMESTER 2017

EXCERPT FROM THE PREFACE OF THE BOOK “MY REBBE”, AUTHORED BY RABBI ADIN STEINSALTZ The first time I met the Rebbe, I felt his intense personality - and his almost complete otherness. It seemed that he was attuned to a higher outlook: his intensity was exceptional and created the same burning passion within me that it had within thousands of others. Many who stood in the Rebbe’s presence came away feeling that they had been branded, as a being that is marked by fire and set aside; so it was with me. Or, put another way, it was love at first sight. The Rebbe was a great man, certainly the greatest man I have ever met, one whom The Academy is dedicated to the living legacy of I deeply admired. The life’s work he chose constitutes one of the most remarkable religious tasks ever undertaken by a single Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson man, a task whose purpose is urgently relevant to our times. He sought nothing less than to transform our reality into a better one. While he was devoted to the Jewish people, his message was universal; his vision encompassed the entire world. The Rebbe’s influence stretched far and wide, despite the fact that he confined himself to a small office for the last fifty years of his life. He had no political party backing him, no financial empire to call his own, and yet heads of state, ambassadors and other world leaders would sit patiently in his modest anteroom, waiting to speak with him.

THE LUBAVITCHER REBBE

Many still yearn to keep both the Rebbe and his vision alive in memory and in deed.

PERSONA NON GRATA –

CHIUNE SUGIHARA “If you saved one life, it is as if you saved the world”

SPECIAL TWO NIGHT SHOWING IN THE CONEJO VALLEY

Sunday & Monday, March 19-20, 7:30 p.m From amidst the evil and horror of the Holocaust comes one of the war’s most remarkable stories of human kindness and compassion. In the fall of 1939 Hitler’s murderous wave was sweeping through Eastern Europe. In the face of the Nazi onslaught, Chiune Sugihara single-handedly saved more than 6,000 Jewish lives. As the Japanese Consul to Lithuania, he used his power as a diplomat to rescue Jewish refugees, risking his career, disgrace and even his life by disobeying government orders and writing visas for these desperate refugees. The visas allowed them to escape through Russia to a safe haven in Japan.

Visa # 1839 was issued to a 16 year old named Moshe Sapochkinsky. Mordechai and Moshe are the fathers of the Rabbis of our community, Rabbi Moshe D. Bryski and Rabbi Yitzchak Sapochkinsky. Daniel Friedmann Monday, May 8, 8:00 p.m. THE ACADEMY – CENTER FOR JEWISH LIFE $10 ADVANCED PAID RESERVATIONS, $13 AT DOOR

Every word in the Six Day Genesis creation account describes the origins of the universe and life on earth, and every discovery and observation by science leads to understanding of when and how the universe came to be, often in seeming contradiction to Genesis. Daniel Friedmann was CEO of MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates, Canada’s largest space systems company and the world’s largest commercial communications satellite manufacturer, for 20 years. He has worked for 30 years in the space industry, including being involved with NASA other major space agencies and participating on key projects from the Hubble space telescope to Mars missions.
